.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will move off the east coast tonight. A cold front
will shift across the lower Great Lakes region Monday with
widespread rain showers. A cool airmass will settle over our region
behind the front with below normal temperatures returning Tuesday
through the remainder of the week. Another cold front will bring
chances for rain showers Wednesday turning cold enough perhaps for
some wet snow across higher elevations Wednesday night.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
High pressure over the Delmarva this evening will retreat off the
coast tonight. This will allow weak low pressure over northeast
Arkansas to move northeast into the Ohio Valley. Southwesterly low
let jet will ramp up as the low ripples along approaching cold
front. Increasing moisture advection and synoptic lift will allow
rain/showers to blossom into the area from the southwest after
midnight tonight. Southerly flow and cloud cover will keep overnight
temperature more mild than recent nights with lows generally in
the lower to mid 40s.

Monday, the surface cold front will take aim at the area, along with
more upper level support, as a stout jet streak develops across the
Ohio Valley/Great Lakes region. This will maintain the shower
activity through at least the first half of the day, before
trending downward during the afternoon behind the cold front.
Daytime high temperatures should be met earlier in the day
before sliding back during the afternoon in developing cold air
advection. We still should top out in the upper 50s to lower
60s, likely the warmest day we will see over the next week.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
Surface low pressure over central Quebec Province will rapidly
deepen as a PV anomaly tracks behind and to the south of the sfc low
center. The pressure gradient will tighten and result in gusty
westerly winds across the eastern Great Lakes Monday evening. Cold
air advection will persist across the region and 850mb temperatures
will fall to -4 deg C overnight. Although moisture will diminish as
the trough moves away Monday night, lake effect rain showers will be
persist east of Lake Ontario before becoming scattered as they
settle to the southern shore by Tuesday morning. Off Lake
Erie...westerly winds over the smaller fetch of the lake and lack of
deeper moisture will result in scattered rain showers Monday evening
into Tuesday morning. Low temperatures will fall into the upper 30s
to low 40s. Higher elevations will likely see the low to mid 30s.

Winds will begin to back to the west-southwest and warm air
advection will begin by Tuesday afternoon. This will cause any
lingering rain showers to diminish while they move northward.
Surface high pressure will extend into the lower Ohio Valley and Mid-
Atlantic region by Tuesday afternoon and dry weather will continue
through the day. High temperatures will reach the upper 40s to low
50s.

The next mid-level trough will bring another round of cold air for
the eastern Great Lakes mid-week. A cold front will track across the
region Tuesday night. Forcing from the frontal passage and the lack
of moisture will only result in scattered showers across the region
into Wednesday morning. A secondary cold front will usher in colder
temperatures Wednesday morning. Lake induced instability will
increase as 850mb temperatures fall back near -5 deg C and lake
effect rain showers are likely with enhancement southeast of Lake
Erie and Lake Ontario. At this time, the mid-level trough will
promote a connection from upstream lakes. Lake effect showers will
persist into Wednesday night with an enhancement southeast of Lake
Ontario. A cool night is expected with surface temperatures falling
into the low to mid 30s and even the 20s at higher elevations. Rain
may start to mix in and possibly even change over to snow at some
locations.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Another surge of cooler air will arrive Wednesday with the passage
of a secondary cold front during the morning. The cold front and
associated mid level trough will produce a few showers Wednesday,
with enhanced showers east and southeast of the lakes due to
increasing lake induced instability. Cold advection will increase
during the day, although the boundary layer should stay mild enough
to support mainly rain through late afternoon. Expect highs in the
upper 40s on the lake plains and low to mid 40s for higher terrain.

Chilly northwest flow will continue Wednesday night, with cold air
aloft supporting ongoing lake response. Northwest flow will favor
areas southeast of the lakes, mainly the Chautauqua Ridge off Lake
Erie and the Rochester area into the Finger Lakes off Lake Ontario.
The airmass will grow cold enough to allow for some wet snow to mix
in at lower elevations, with a possible change to all snow across
higher terrain. Northwest flow and a limited duration of deeper
moisture suggests any snow amounts would be very light across the
higher terrain. Lows will reach the mid 30s on the lake plains and
lower 30s for higher terrain, with some 20s across the North
Country.

Thursday a few lake effect rain or snow showers may continue into
the morning southeast of the lakes. High pressure building into the
area and the start of mid level warm advection will force this to
end by afternoon. High temperatures will stay in the 40s even at
lower elevations, and possibly only mid to upper 30s for the higher
terrain east of Lake Ontario.

A modest warming trend will arrive Friday and Saturday as the trough
reloads across the Upper Midwest. This will support highs back into
the 50s at the end of the week. Friday should stay mainly dry before
shower chances increase later Friday night and Saturday with the
approach of the next system. Both the GFS and ECMWF continue to
support another strong push of cooler air for next Sunday and Monday
as a trough digs back into the northeastern United States.

.AVIATION /19Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Widespread VFR for the remainder of the afternoon into the early
evening.

Increasing and lowering ceilings will then arrive across western
New York ahead of a cold front toward 06z Monday. These lowering
ceilings will expand east across central New York by 12z Monday
with chances for showers increasing ahead of the frontal system
which will be just west of western New York. MVFR/IFR ceilings
are forecast at KBUF/KJHW by 12z Monday. Some LLWS is possible
across the western Southern Tier close to 12z Monday as a low
level jet increases ahead of the front.

Outlook...

Monday...VFR/MVFR with rain showers likely.
Tuesday...Mainly VFR with a chance for rain showers late.
Wednesday...VFR/MVFR with a chance of rain showers.
Thursday and Friday...Mainly VFR.

.MARINE...
A ridge of high pressure extending north across the eastern Great
Lakes will support fair weather and sub-advisory winds/waves on the
waters through tonight.

A cold front will pass across the lower Great Lakes Monday, with
southwest winds ahead of the front increasing toward Small Craft
Advisory thresholds. Behind the cold front, these winds will veer to
west and northwest, with a potential for linger Small Craft Advisory
conditions persisting on Lake Erie, but Gales will be possible on
Lake Ontario Monday night.

Westerly winds will subside below potential Gales on Tuesday but
will likely support lingering Small Craft Advisory conditons on the
eastern Great Lakes through much of this week.
