.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front will lift north across southern New England on
Wednesday...bringing the risk for scattered showers and a few
thunderstorms. The Bermuda high then builds back into southern
New England and brings a return to summer heat and humidity
through the weekend and into early next week, along with a few
diurnal thunderstorms at times mainly across the interior.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING/...

High pressure will continue to move east of southern New England
tonight. While dry weather will prevail...increasing low level
moisture/cooling boundary layer will allow low clouds and fog
patches to advance northward after midnight. Low temperatures
will mainly be in the middle to upper 60s.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...

* Low risk for isolated severe weather Wednesday

A complex and low confidence forecast across the region
Wednesday into Wednesday evening. There are several things to
consider...which we will breakdown below.

Initially a warm front will lift north across the region
Wednesday morning into mid afternoon. This warm front will
result in an abundance of clouds along with some scattered
showers and perhaps a few embedded thunderstorms. During this
time frame...do not think we will have enough instability or a
strong enough low level jet for severe weather. However...given
70+ dewpoints and the time of year, can not completely rule out
the low risk of isolated severe storm during the morning into
early afternoon across CT/RI and SE MA.

The main question appears to be what happens late Wednesday
afternoon and evening. As is typically the case in southern New
England...there are a lot of mixed signals. The main threat for
a few strong to severe storms during this time will be across
interior MA and CT with the greatest risk west of the CT River.

An elongated shortwave will be approaching interior southern
New England. This will result in bulk effective shear increasing
to over 40 knots coupled with 70+ dewpoints...which is
certainly favorable for severe weather. However...there are a
couple of limiting factors which include lack of height falls
and synoptic scale forcing. It also remains uncertain how much
we will destabilize with perhaps a considerable amount of cloud
debris associated with the warm front.

Given the above thoughts...the overall threat for severe weather
Wednesday afternoon and evening is low. Nonetheless...if we are
able to get a few strong storms going they will need to be
watched closely. Given strong deep layer shear...the threat for
localized damaging wind gusts exists. In addition...while a low
probability we can not completely rule out the risk for an
isolated tornado given ample low level helicity. Any storm that
develops will be capable of producing localized heavy
rainfall/street flooding as well.

So to sum things up...the severe weather threat is low on
Wednesday but the threat for a very localized high impact
severe weather event exists given the parameters in place.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...

Synoptic Overview...

Anomalous subtropical ridge with heights peaking around 598 dam
drops its anchor south of New England Thu and Fri. Meanwhile mean
mid level trough over the Great Lakes deamplifies during this time
and rides up and over the anomalous ridge. Ensembles and
deterministic guidance in agreement the heat ridge lingers along the
eastern seaboard thru the weekend. The next northern stream trough
to arrive in the northeast appears to be around Tue of next week.

Temperatures...

Subtropical ridge pumps +20C air at 925 mb and +17C at 850 mb across
the region much of this time period, yielding highs well into the
80s each day. However there are a few days that ensembles and
deterministic guidance suggest stronger WAA with +22C/+24C at 925 mb
and +18C at 850 mb resulting in highs possibly into the low 90s Thu
and again Sun/Mon and Tue, away from the south coast. Regardless it
will feel like summer with dew pts in the low 70s thru the 7 day
period.

Precipitation...

The anomalous subtropical ridge just offshore will preclude
widespread convection in response to strong subsidence cap. Given
the high dew pts and warm surface temps lots of surface based
instability available. However given the lack of a focus for
lift/forcing, diurnal convection will be isolated/widely scattered
and likely more focused across the high terrain where differential
heating can contribute to initiating convection. Otherwise much of
the area will be dry especially across RI and southeast MA. The next
chance for more organized convection is sometime early next week
when ensembles have the next amplified northern stream trough.

.AVIATION /19Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Short Term /through Wednesday Night/...Moderate confidence.

Tonight...VFR conditions persist this evening. However,
increasing low level moisture/cooling boundary layer should
allow MVFR-IFR conditions to overspread the region in low clouds
and some fog from south to north after midnight.

Wednesday...MVFR-IFR conditions in the morning should improve
some to mainly low end VFR/MVFR in a broken deck of clouds
during the afternoon. Otherwise, a warm front will likely bring
some scattered showers and perhaps an embedded t-storm Wed
morning into the early afternoon. Perhaps a few strong
thunderstorms across interior MA and CT late Wed afternoon and
evening...but that remains uncertain.

Wednesday night...MVFR-IFR conditions should return Wednesday
night with the cooling boundary layer and high dewpoint air in
place. If a few thunderstorms impact the interior Wednesday
evening they should diminish after midnight.
