.SYNOPSIS...
Hot and humid conditions will continue through Thursday. A cold
front will bring a round of strong thunderstorms on Friday.
Some of these storms may contain gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
Drier conditions and seasonable temperatures return next
weekend as large high pressure builds in. Another cold front may
bring a few showers or storms by next Tuesday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
10pm update...
As weak return flow continues to develop, aided by dissipating S
coastal sea breezes penetrating deep into interior S New
England, CU and convective SHRA have dissipated rapidly as
expected this evening. The only caveat being a cell aided by the
sea breeze front as it met with convergence, peak remnant CAPE
near Chicopee, MA. However, it too dissipated rapidly with a
lack of shear to support it.

This return flow will allow dwpts to once again rise through the
overnight hours, through the upper 60s to low 70s, yielding
another mild/humid overnight. Will also need to watch developing
stratus/fog which may impact portions of the S coast this
evening, as it may require dense fog headlines toward the early
morning hours.

Thursday...

As surface high drifts offshore, increasing SW flow will develop
across SNE. Another day of heat and increasing humidity with
dewpoints climbing into the lower 70s will lead to CAPES
1000-2000+ J/kg in the afternoon. However, soundings show a
subsidence inversion developing with area of lower KI lifting
north across the region, which effectively provides a cap for
much of the region. Thus, expecting mainly dry weather with
just a low risk of a shower/t-storm across far western MA.

925 mb temps 24-26C in the interior will result in highs
reaching the low and mid 90s across the interior MA valleys and
CT valley. Increasing SW flow will hold temps in the 80s along
the south coast. Given dewpoints into the lower 70s, expect
heat indices to exceed 100 degrees in the Merrimack and CT
valleys with 95-100 elsewhere away from the south coast. Heat
advisories will be extended into Thu, except along the south
coast and Berkshires.

Thursday night...

Heights begin to lower overnight Thu night as mid level
shortwave tracks to the north with attending cold front moving
into northern New Eng toward daybreak. Axis of deep moisture and
high PWATs of 2 inches move into SNE from the west which will
lead to increasing risk of pre-frontal showers/t-storms moving
into western New Eng well after midnight. With increasing cloud
cover and a SW breeze it will be a rather warm and humid night
with lows mostly in the 70s.

Details...

12z models and ensembles remain in good agreement that strong ridge
over western Atlantic will break down by end of week, which allows
upper trough and cold front to push through New England.

Before we lose heat/humidity this weekend however, cold front brings
showers/storms Friday, some of which will be capable of producing
heavy rainfall and possibly strong wind gusts. We are certainly more
confident in heavy rainfall and localized flooding given
precipitable water values in excess of 2 inches (+2 to +3 standard
deviation), strong low level moisture transport ahead of front, and
good convergence along front itself.

Severe potential is less certain. Front should enter western MA
Friday morning and reach coast later in day. Best instability,
around 1000 J/KG of surface-based CAPE, appears to be across RI and
E MA where airmass will have time to destabilize. However, this is
questionable given strong SW flow (which stabilizes airmass SE of
Providence-Boston) and likelihood of cloud cover ahead of front. In
addition, mid level lapse rates are fairly weak and stronger 0-6 km
shear appears to lag best instability. Nonetheless potential is
there for at least few strong storms Friday afternoon, especially
near Providence and Boston and less so in other locations.

For next week, upper ridge over center of country tries to build to
East Coast, but series of short waves rotating through southern
Canada should suppress heat/humidity well to our south. Passage of
one of these short waves along with cold front could bring another
round of showers/storms Tuesday into Wednesday.

south coast to around the Mass Pike and points south. VFR
further N. S-SW winds 15-25 kt gusts at times. LIFR possible
Cape/Island terminals. Some SHRA and iso TSRA mainly across W
MA/CT by early AM.

Fri...Moderate confidence.
Complex mix of VFR to MVFR/IFR with SHRA and TSRA through the
day. Best chance for MVFR/IFR in heavier rain. S-SW winds
continue with gusts around 20 kt. Winds shift to the W through
the afternoon, with improvement to VFR thereafter.

KBOS Terminal...High confidence in TAF today. Lower confidence
in timing of lower categories overnight tonight.

KBDL Terminal...High confidence in TAF.
