.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure over the Canadian Maritimes keeps dry weather with
us through the first part of tonight. Low pressure along the
Virginia coast will move up the coast tonight and pass offshore
during Monday. This coastal storm will bring a soaking a
widespread soaking rain with unseasonably cool temperatures.
Unsettled weather will likely continue at times for much of the
week along with below to well below normal temperatures at
times.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM MONDAY MORNING/...
Through evening...

Continued easterly flow brought one batch of clouds over Eastern
Mass and RI this morning. Another cloud area will move across
Cape Cod and the Islands mid afternoon through this evening.
Extrapolating the back edge of the clouds brings that through
Cape Cod around 8-9 PM.

Meanwhile Maritime high pressure maintains an east flow in
eastern Mass and dry weather across all of Southern New England.

Tonight...

Dry weather through midnight courtesy of the Maritime high.
Meanwhile, the Virgina low pressure and its upper shortwave will
move northeast. This will push the clouds in overnight. Model
consensus brings measureable rain to southern and western CT
toward 2AM and then northeast across all areas by 8 AM. East
winds continue through the night. Expect min temps in the mid
40s to lower 50s.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM MONDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Low pressure passes southeast of Nantucket on Monday. The
strongest lift with this system crosses Western New England late
morning-midday, and then crosses Eastern New England during the
afternoon. Lift is about 20 mb/hour and mostly found below 600
mb. But precipitable water values climb to between 1.25 and 1.5
inches so there will be potential for embedded areas of heavier
rain favoring these times of stronger lift. Convective
parameters are so-so and favor the South Coast/Cape and Islands.
We have included scattered thunder in these areas.

The east flow will increase as the low approaches, with gusts of
25-30 knots possible along the coast and favoring Cape Cod and
Islands. The clouds, rain, and east winds will keep temps from
climbing much. Using 1000 mb values...surface pressures won't be
much higher...as a guide suggests max temps in the low to mid
50s.

The western edge of lift moves out of our western areas during
the afternoon and eastern areas in the evening. We have shown
diminishing pops along this schedule, with chance pops lingering
only along the East Mass coast and parts of Northwest Mass
Monday night.

Somewhat drier air works in Monday night, and may be enough to
bring partial clearing overnight. But temperatures remain
similar to tonight, in the mid 40s to low 50s.

Rossby wave progression. Key is N Pacific low positioning. Alluded
yesterday, Aluetian low shift into the Gulf of AK, dual ascending
jet structure into western N America, considerable warm surge and
subsequent ridging. Enhanced downshearing over central N America,
favorable trof pattern over NE N America extending into New England.
Anomalously cool H85 airmass brought S and downward via NW flow, an
early-midweek cool down, aided by Pacific-origin energy through the
pattern piling up against Icelandic ridging giving opportunity for
low maturation round SE Canada. But the active, wet weather pattern
not long-term. Subtle shift over time in the long-wave pattern, the
Aleutian low re-emerging, while early June seems cooler than average
in the 6-10 day outlook, warmer conditions look to return mid-June.

Beneath a H5 trof for the foreseeable future, through which NW flow
prevails, energy rotates. Periods of wet-weather, breezy onshore
winds. Dependent on mid-level features invoking surface cyclogenesis
along a quasi-stationary sub-tropical frontal boundary well S of our
area.

Seemingly no targets of opportunity, simply challenges with inter-
preting surface low positioning, outcomes. Wet-weather Tuesday into
Wednesday, second of the double-barrel low rotating through beneath
a fairly pronounced trof axis, breezy conditions along the coast.
Cold front Friday, have to watch for shower / thunderstorm activity
along with breezy SW winds, timing crucial. Towards the weekend, may
have to watch an emerging Mid-Atlantic low, its proximity to S New
England.

All in due time in figuring things out, but no hazards appearing on
the horizon for the time-being. Have to start worrying about tides
and potential coastal impacts into the second full week of June,
more importantly aournd the 15th-16th.

.AVIATION /20Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Short Term /through Monday Night/...

Through evening...High confidence. VFR, except areas of MVFR
CIGS around 2000 feet Cape Cod/Islands and parts of Southeast
Mass. The back edge of these clouds will approach toward 8 pm.
NE wind gusts up to 20-25 knots across coastal Eastern MA will
diminish toward sunset.

Tonight...Moderate to high confidence. MVFR ceilings over Cape
and Island should dissipate early. Clouds will then increase
from the southwest with lower clouds arriving after midnight.
IFR overspreads the region from the south between 2 and 6 AM.
Light rain will spread into CT 2-4 AM and the remainder of the
region 5-8 AM.

Monday...Moderate to high confidence.

Monday...Moderate to high confidence. IFR cigs/MVFR vsbys in
most areas. A few low-end MVFR cigs are possible. Rain will be
heavy at times and may by itself generate IFR conditions during
the late morning and afternoon. A rumble or two of thunder can
not be ruled out across the south New England coast. ENE wind
gusts of 20 to 30 knots expected along the coast.

Low pressure near Norfolk Virginia will lift northeast
overnight. This will spread rain across the waters 3-6 AM with
reduced vsbys by morning. East-Northeast winds of 20-25 knots
this evening will diminish for a time, then increase again
toward morning. Rough seas will diminish briefly tonight, then
build again toward morning.

Monday...Moderate to high confidence.

Low pressure passes southeast of Nantucket. This will maintain
East-Northeast winds across the waters. Wind potential looks to
reach 30-32 knots. Can't rule out a few gusts near gale force,
mainly on the outer waters, but not enough to justify a gale
warning. Seas will run 5-8 feet with highest values on the outer
waters. Visibility will lower at times to 1-3 miles in rain.
Some thunder is also possible. We will run Small Craft
Advisories for all waters through Monday.

Monday night...Moderate to high confidence.

Winds turn from the north as the low pressure moves off to the
east. Winds and seas will diminish, but with rough seas still
expected through sunrise. Small craft Advisory will continue on
some of the waters.

Outlook /Tuesday through Friday/...Moderate confidence.

Tuesday through Tuesday Night: Winds less than 25 kt. Local
rough seas. Chance of rain.

Wednesday: Winds less than 25 kt. Seas up to 5 ft. Slight
