.SYNOPSIS...
Areas of light snow will impact southern New England this
morning...but accumulations should be light with the best chance
for a few inches across southeast New England. A few lingering
rain/snow showers may persist across the coast into early
afternoon but temperatures will be rising well above freezing.
Upper low pressure lingers over the Maritimes through the
weekend with potential for clouds and scattered rain/snow
showers. Temperatures remain colder than normal through the
period.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
9 AM update...

Vertically stacked low pres east of the benchmark with western
edge of the comma head bringing bands of light to moderate snow
across eastern MA and RI. As the storm pulls away snow will
taper off 10 am to noon with a few rain showers possibly
lingering into the afternoon along the eastern MA coast.

Cloudy skies should persist along the coastal plain into the
afternoon...but some partial clearing anticipated for the
interior later in the day. High temps should recover into the
lower to middle 40s in many locations. Mildest spots will be in
the CT River Valley.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM FRIDAY/...
Tonight...

Coastal low pressure pulls further away from the region and
winds will continue to diminish tonight. Otherwise a dry and
quiet night. Enough cold advection to allow overnight lows to
drop into the middle to upper 20s.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Focus overnight was on the current weather so the long term
portion of the forecast has not been updated.

.AVIATION /13Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Today...Moderate confidence. MVFR to IFR conditions in snow
into mid morning with localized LIFR conditions. Otherwise...a
drying trend with just a few left over rain/snow showers may
persist into early afternoon across eastern MA. MVFR cigs may
hang tough across the coastal plain through the afternoon...but
should see improvement to mainly VFR.

Tonight...Moderate to high confidence. Any lingering MVFR
conditions along the coastal plain should improve to VFR.
Otherwise...VFR tonight.

KBOS Terminal...Moderate confidence in TAF. IFR conditions in
steady snow through about 13 or 14z before improvement to MVFR
conditions.

...Mainly wet roadways early this morning but some slush covered
roadways possible in bands of moderate snow...

Temperatures were mainly above freezing early this morning across
southern New England. So while snow has finally overspread much
of the region...accumulations of a coating to 2 inches will
generally occur on grassy surfaces. However...some roads may
become slushy for a time in bands of moderate snow especially
from Plymouth to Falmouth as well as the higher terrain of
northeast Connecticut and central Massachusetts. Any slippery
roadways should improve by late morning as temperatures rise above
freezing.
