A reinforcing surge of cool air will arrive this afternoon,
which could trigger scattered snow squalls. Mainly dry but
blustery and cool conditions will follow into this weekend.
Near- seasonable and dry for Sunday prior to a potential potent
snow storm early next week, followed by a slightly cooler, drier
late week pattern.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...

Closed upper low over northern New England will maintain a west
to northwest flow across our region. As the core of an anomalous
cold pool passes by later today, both low and mid level lapse
rates will become steep. Expecting sufficient moisture to result
in some snow or rain showers, especially from mid morning into
early evening. With the west winds, the favored areas would be
around the Berkshires and the Worcester hills, were there will
be enhanced orographic lift.

Still a difficult task to narrow down exactly where snow
showers, or even squalls, will form. As such, kept precipitation
chances general, with with enhanced values along the western
slopes of the higher terrain features. Some of these showers
could be briefly intense, producing poor visibility quickly. Not
expecting much accumulation, generally an inch or less, as these
showers should be transitory.

Otherwise, expecting below normal temperatures.

on the cooler, drier side of storm development up against H5 ridging
building in from the W, reflected in the latest 6-10 / 8-14 day CPC
temperature outlooks. Lower confidence forecast further out in time.

Beginning Sunday night into early next week...

Ejecting Mid-Atlantic surface low, its later morphology dependent on
one particular factor of importance: upstream H5 ridge magnitude and
amplification, how far S does it shear mid-level energy, along with
the promotion of a 310K surface PV-streamer and accompanying Arctic
air noted at H85-5, cold air advection proceeding. But the Atlantic
is wide open, weaker block regressing N. It's a question whether the
N-stream PV streamer and mid-level energy is able to tap into the S-
stream impulse / Mid-Atlantic surface low. If the N-stream is faster
then the cyclonic dig through the preferred H5 trof across the NE
CONUS would certainly pull the S-stream and thermal wind axis closer
to the coast beneath lowering heights, increased baroclinicity and
cyclogenesis. However if the S-stream is allowed to escape, the N-
stream slower, then expect a flat-feature out to sea with little if
any impact to the NE CONUS other than snow shower activity as the N-
stream disturbance and closed off H5 low cyclonically rotate over-
head acting upon available moisture.

Model analysis: EC more pronounced, deeper with N-stream features
and thermal intrusion of colder air over the GFS which exhibits a
more marginal low-mid level profile per warm conveyor belt motions.
EC further S with S-stream features, discrete, allowed to escape, N-
stream acting as a kicker. Surface to low-level features, 09.0z EC
stronger over preceding solutions while the GFS is furthest W with
pull-back of low-level features beneath the preferred H5 trof. In
all, it would seem the GFS connects and blossoms whereas all other
guidance suggests features move through fast and far enough S to
scrape us by, the storm maturation and later occlusion further down-
stream with the absence of a block.

Per a consensus of all available forecast guidance, surface low is
progged to pass outside but close to the 40N/70W benchmark. Storm
scraping by with over-running snows, coastal mix. At minimum ocean-
effect outcomes given responsive NE wind field with the passing low.

Will hold with chance PoPs, not leaning with a complete miss. Some
timing issues noted between the UKmet / Canadian / EC / GFS, will
keep a broad forecast, holding the surface low just outside of the
40N / 70W benchmark around Monday night. If any outcomes, all snow
with coastal rain / snow. Blustery NE winds.

RI and eastern MA, but trending toward VFR and dry conditions.
NW winds increase 20-25 kt with strongest wind over Cape Cod and
