.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will bring dry and cold weather into Wednesday. Low
pressure developing on a cold front dropping south through New
England will bring a rain/snow mix likely changing to a period of
snow late Thursday night into Friday morning. This will be followed
by a shot of arctic air late Friday into Saturday. Another coastal
storm may bring more snow or mixed precipitation sometime next
Sunday into Monday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
10pm update...
WV imagery suggests the base of the acute trof is moving E
across the region at the time of this writing. The weak lift,
and leftover low-mid lvl moisture continues to generate very
light SHSN especially across the Berkshires and CT Valley, but
thanks to downsloping component, they are unlikely to translate
much further E so will be maintaining POPs over the next few
hours no further E than the CT valley.

Otherwise, with the base of this trof moving E, allowing for
enhanced AVA and subsidence in its wake, expect gradual
clearing. However, sfc pres gradient is unlikely to dissipate,
which will prevent early AM radiational cooling. Temp/dwpt
trends reflect this thinking. However, cold air advection will
still allow mins to dip into the teens and single digits.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/...
Wednesday...

High pressure ridge builds across the region with light NW winds
backing to SW during the day as the ridge axis crosses New
England. Will see mostly sunny skies in the morning, then some
clouds will start to push east out of upstate NY during the
afternoon. Another strong low pressure area moving north of the
Great Lakes may push a weak trough ahead of it, allowing for
some mid level moisture toward the region late in the day. Low
level moisture is limited, so expect a dry day.

It will be another cool day as temps only reach the mid 20s to
lower 30s, running around 5 degrees or so below seasonal
normals.

Wednesday night...

Some question as to whether a front will try to form across
central New England well ahead of the strong low passing near
Hudson Bay. As H5 ridge axis pushes across, progressive steering
northern stream flow will keep the central Canadian low N of the
region. But could see some decent mid level lift try to develop
a front as it crosses northern New England. Most of the model
suite develops precip along this front as it crosses the region.
May see scattered snow showers develop and push into central and
northern areas mainly around or after midnight. Rather limited
moisture, with QPF amounts generally 0.1 inches or less, so
won't see much in the way of snow.

With increasing clouds and a light SW flow in place, temps will
not fall back too much. Expect lows mainly in the 20s, except
near 30 along the S coast.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Highlights...

* Milder Thu with a few showers possible
* RA/SN showers may end as a period of snow late Thu night/Fri AM
* Blustery and much colder late Fri to Sat with a shot of arctic air
* More snow or mixed precipitation possible sometime Sun into Mon

Overview...

Overall pattern in the extended period features ridging in the
eastern Pacific to Alaska with deep polar vortex across Hudson
Bay and broad longwave trough over the central and eastern
CONUS. This will result in temps averaging below normal through
the period with one shot of arctic air Fri into Sat. It will be
an active pattern with multiple chances of snow as shortwaves
rotate through the flow.

Thursday...

Next mid level shortwave and attending cold front approaches
from the west. With deep moisture in place may see a few showers
across the region. Ptype mostly rain but some snow showers are
possible over interior high terrain. Milder pre-frontal SW flow
will push temps into the 40s in the coastal plain but colder
higher terrain.

Thursday night into Friday morning...

Cold front drops south across SNE with a frontal wave forecast
to develop along the front. This will likely bring a period of
steadier precip to SNE. Ptype will initially be mostly rain,
except snow distant interior, but a transition to snow is
expected from north to south later Thu night as colder air
deepens. These frontal waves are always tricky and QPF and
timing of changeover will depend on where and how quickly it
develops. This is not looking like a robust QPF event, but some
of the guidance is indicating a decent mid level frontogenesis
band developing south of the Pike late Thu night/early Fri with
modest omega through the snow growth region. A brief period of
accumulating snow could impact the Fri morning commute. Accums
of an inch or 2 possible, but a low risk for advisory snow in
the interior if wave develops fast enough.

Friday afternoon into Saturday...

In the wake of the low pres, a surge of arctic air on blustery NW
winds moves into SNE. 850 mb temps bottom out near -20 to -22C Fri
night into early Sat.  Falling temps expected Fri afternoon with
wind chills dropping to zero to 10 below late Fri night and early
Sat.

Saturday night into Tuesday...

Progressive pattern and as high pres moves offshore, developing warm
advection along an increasing WSW low level jet may lead to some
light snow developing across the region Sat night into Sun. Given SW
flow, BL may moderate enough for a mix or rain near the south coast
on Sunday. Then will have to monitor amplifying upstream trough
which may lead to another coastal storm impacting the region
sometime late Sun into Mon. Details at this time range uncertain and
will depend on amplitude of the trough and track of low pres, but
potential exists for more snow or mixed precip. Dry and cold weather
likely to follow next Tue.

mainly W of the line. VFR with mixed MVFR conditions due to
lower vsbys in the showers. Some lower MVFR CIGS mainly across
the Worcester Hills and W MA.

N-NW winds have diminished below Gales, so have converted all
gale headlines over the Small Craft Advisories. Took down the
Small Crafts on Boston Harbor and Narragansett Bay as winds have
diminished below criteria there.

Winds continue to generate light to moderate freezing spray, so
have continued the Freezing Spray Advisory most of the open
waters though expect this to diminish with the lowering winds.

Visibility restrictions continue across the eastern waters
including near the Cape and islands, but should improve through
00Z. Seas up to 9 to 16 ft, highest on the E outer waters, will
slowly subside but remain well above 5 ft.

Tonight...
N-NW winds will continue to gust 20-25 kt through the overnight
hours, then will diminish toward daybreak. However, seas at 8-15
feet will slowly subside, but remain well above 5 ft so Small
Crafts will continue. Moderate freezing spray will continue
early, then will end as the winds diminish.

Wed...
NW winds continue to diminish during the day, then will back to
W-SW. Seas will remain at or above 5 ft through midday, then
will start to subside but look to hold on across the eastern
waters through the day.

Wed night...
SW winds will pick up, gusting to 25-30 kt across the open
waters. Chance for gale force gusts after midnight. Scattered
snow showers may develop on portions of the eastern waters after
midnight.
