.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure builds into the region late tonight and Saturday.
A frontal system then brings mostly rain Saturday night into
Sunday, with a wintry mix across the interior Saturday night.
Low pressure will pass northwest of New England Sunday, as its
associated cold front moves across the region. Another front
passes on Monday, bringing a shot of cold, dry air across the
region which looks to linger through the middle to latter
portions of next week. Low pressure may develop along a
lingering front off the mid Atlantic coast around the middle of
next week that may affect coastal areas.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
935 PM update...
Last of the light showers exiting Cape Cod. Decent drying moves
in overnight as high pres builds in from the west. This will
lead to partial clearing and a period of radiational cooling
late tonight. Lows dropping down into the 20s, with lower 30s
near the immediate coast.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SUNDAY/...
Saturday...

High pressure moves overhead Saturday. Expect a sunny day with
light wind. High level moisture increases late in the day, so we
expect increasing high clouds during that time. Mixing reaches
to 950 mb, possibly a little higher. This supports max sfc temps
upper 30s inland to around 40. Slightly deeper mixing would
support 40-45, mainly along the coastal plain.

Saturday night...

High pressure moves off to our east Saturday night, and Plains
low pressure moves east toward the Great Lakes. Low level
southerly flow increases during the night, especially toward
morning.

Upper jet is still well to our southwest by the end of the
night. This might enough to generate some upper level lift,
but this support will be much better on Sunday. Low level 40-45
kt low level jet moves up from the Mid Atlantic coast, reaching
RI and SE Mass by sunrise. This will generate lift from below.

Expect developing precipitation, mainly after midnight as the
lift increases. By this time, temperatures should be rising with
most areas above freezing. Precipitation in these areas should
be rain. Departing high pressure is mostly over the ocean, but a
portion extends into the Maritimes.

Both the GFS and ECMWF show secondary ridging through interior
New England to NE PA. This suggests lingering cold air in the
interior at the start. Thus we expect initial freezing or
frozen precip inland, likely in the form of sleet or freezing
rain, but trending to rain toward Sunday morning as the warmer
south wind takes control. Could be cold enough for brief snow
along the border with NH and VT late at night before changing.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Highlights...

* Rain lingers a cross the region Sunday into Sunday night as a
  cold front moves offshore
* Another front passes Monday, bringing dry but much colder air
* Large high pressure across central and western U.S. will keep
  a cold, dry air flow across the northeast through late next
  week
* Low pressure may develop off the mid Atlantic coast that may
  affect coastal areas Wednesday into Thursday

Overview...

The H5 cutoff low across the central Plains early Sunday will
open up as it shifts NE across the Great Lakes Monday morning.
The last area of rainfall will move across before the associated
surface low slides into southern Quebec Sunday night. With a
broad mid level trough moving across New England in the fast
northern stream flow, should see improving conditions for the
beginning of the work week. Some light precip may linger across
the E slopes of the Berkshires Monday as another front
approaches. Not much mid level support or moisture with this
system, but noting a shot of cold air shifting SE behind it. H85
temps drop to -6C to -10C by 12Z Tuesday. So, temperatures
running up to 10 degrees above normal on Monday will drop as
much as 15-20 degrees on Tuesday.

The cold air will linger through the remainder of the week,
with highs from 5 to 10 degrees below normal for early December.
Mainly dry conditions should remain in place as large high
pressure extends across most of the central and northern U.S.
keeping a northerly flow across the northeast.

A front lingers off the mid Atlantic coast around the middle of
next week, remnants of the passing cold front. Some models
trying to form a wave on this front, but keeps this well
offshore. However, another low may try to develop across the
southern Plains toward the end of next week. Both the 00Z and
12Z ECMWF has been aggressive with its development and movement
late Friday into next week. Something to keep an eye on, but
have kept a dry, cold forecast going for now.

Details...

Sunday...
Rain will linger as the parent low passes N of the region. May
see weak waves move across the region, which may enhance the
precip when feeding off a PWAT moisture plume that crosses the
region Sunday morning, up to 2 to 3 SD above normal (around 1 to
1.3 inches). Will see gusty SW winds move in Sunday morning to
midday as a 40-50 kt jet up to H85 moves across S coastal areas.
This will also bring the dry slot across. Will see QPF amounts
from around 0.3 inches up to 0.6-0.7 inches, highest across
eastern and S coastal areas. Expect temps to run up to around 5
degrees above normal.

Monday and Tuesday...
W-SW winds remain in place on Monday across the region through
a good chunk of Monday as another cold front starts to approach.
The front will pair up with the mid level trough, crossing the
region Monday afternoon/evening. This will bring a shot of cold
air, along with gusty W-NW winds especially along the S coast,
Cape Cod and the islands. Monday will start off mild with temps
topping off in the 45- 50 degree range across the higher
terrain, ranging to the mid 50s across the coastal plain. Temps
will fall rather quickly behind the front Monday night,
bottoming out in the 20s inland to the lower 30s along the
shore. Will see some rain showers linger from time to time on
Monday across the E slopes of the Berkshires, changing over to
snow showers Monday night.

Tuesday will be a dry but cold day with gusty winds along the
coast. Expect highs mainly in the 30s, though could touch 40
along the immediate S coast.

Wednesday through Friday...
Low pressure may try to form along lingering front off the mid
Atlantic coast Wednesday or Thursday, but models having
difficult locking into whether the low will actually form or
where this will occur. Does look like it will remain dry and
cold through this timeframe, though should monitor the possible
developing low off the coast.

Models picking up on another low developing along the southern
Plains/Gulf coast by next Friday, but noting widening model
solution spread with the track and strength of the low going
into next weekend. Another feature to monitor.

snow/sleet mix interior northern MA, then trending to pockets
of FZRA over the interior higher terrain.

the morning over the Berkshires. SE gusts to 30 kt near the
coast in the morning becoming SW in the afternoon in the coastal
plain.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northern Connecticut, central
Massachusetts, eastern Massachusetts, northeastern Massachusetts,
southeastern Massachusetts, western Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

The light rain/snow mix will taper off this evening. This will bring
a chance of slippery spots on roads at or shortly after the evening
rush hour. Best chance would be in Western and Central Massachusetts,
and in the hills of Northern Connecticut.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Saturday evening into Sunday...

A rain storm will bring a soaking rain to most areas of Southern New
England after midnight Saturday night and lasting into Sunday. There
is a low probability of small streams and rivers rising once again
to minor flooding levels.

Temperatures will be falling below freezing tonight allowing any
leftover moisture on roads and sidewalks to freeze. This may
