.SYNOPSIS...
Blustery west winds continue through early Sunday, some of
those gusts as high as 45 mph. Clearing skies, turning colder,
will see a chilly Monday morning. Dry and unseasonably chilly
temperatures follow into Monday. Another low pressure will bring
a period of heavy rain to the region sometime late Monday night
into Tuesday, but there is a low risk for precipitation to
begin as a brief period of snow or ice across the interior. Dry
but unseasonably cold weather follows Wednesday into Thursday,
before temperatures moderate some by Friday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...
Skies have cleared a good deal over the past several hours,
leaving mostly sunny skies over much of SNE this evening into
tonight. Low level moisture was slow to exit and a few spotty
showers remain possible into the early evening hours, mainly
over the higher terrain aided by orographics. As drier air
invades and a large high pressure moves toward the region, we'll
see clear skies overnight with continued but diminishing gusty
winds. A post frontal 35-40 kt LLJ lingers over the region
bringing continued gusty and brisk conditions. As of 3pm winds
are gusting widespread up to 25-35 mph, localized up to 40 mph.
Lingering cloudcover today likely limited somewhat our potential
to mix the highest winds down to the surface. The focus of the
jet and the highest surface winds remains north of the MA/CT
border. As the low continues its move north the pressure
gradient relaxes and winds will diminish overnight but remain
elevated. Still a decent jet overhead but with less efficient
mixing given loss of daytime heating and warmer air aloft as the
cold pool lifts north.

Sunday into Sunday night...
Sunday will be dry and cooler, with diminishing winds through
the day as heights rise slightly and a surface high approaches.
Under zonal flow some mid level moisture moves in bringing
scattered clouds but overall mostly sunny conditions expected
with highs in the 40s; upper 30s in the higher terrain. Sunday
night winds are light with mostly clear skies allowing for
efficient radiational cooling down into the 20s; about 10
degrees below average for early/mid November.

Dry but unseasonably chilly weather will continue through most of
the day as a high pressure moves offshore. Low risk for a stray
shower or two to move into western MA and CT late in the day.
Monday night and Tuesday...
There remains excellent model agreement on the development of a
coastal low pressure off the Mid Atlantic coast late Monday night
into Tuesday. This low pressure should move through our region
Tuesday. While very confident most of southern New England will
receive another round of measurable precipitation, not as confident
with the precise timing. Am leery of precipitation start a bit later
than current forecast timing with a high pressure nearby. Quite
often, these scenarios result in a lot of dry air near the ground
which takes some time to overcome.
Still thinking there is a risk for some wintry precipitation across
the interior given the precipitation onset at night. This would be
mainly across the higher terrain of central and western MA. The lack
of a source of colder air will limit this window. Still expecting all
areas to be rain shortly after sunrise Tuesday.
This storm looks to be rather progressive, much like the one last
night. Another 1-2 inches of precipitation is possible. While we
will have a couple of days for water levels to come down a bit in
area rivers and streams, will still need to monitor the possibility
for renewed river and stream flooding.
Wednesday through Friday...
Once this Tuesday storm pushes a cold front across our region,
expecting mainly dry weather with below normal temperatures. At
present, high temperatures during this period look to be right
around the normal low temperatures. Friday should be the warmest day
of these three, with the core of a high pressure moving off the
coast.
