.SYNOPSIS...
Cool but dry tonight followed by damp conditions Monday into
Tuesday. High pressure will bring dry weather Wednesday and Thursday. Another
low pressure system may bring more rain to the region sometime
Friday into Friday night, followed by mainly dry weather with a
cooling trend next weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM MONDAY MORNING/...
Weakening upper lvl SW-NE oriented jet is trying to spoil the
party with some very light CI across the N tier of S New
England. However, widespread sunshine has allowed lower lvl
mixing to over-achieve, with highs so far in the mid 50s
(seasonable) across the region.

In spite of this CI, which will increase in advance of split
waves overnight, expect early diurnal cooling this evening,
especially given the earlier sunset with EST. This should still
allow lows to fall into the upper 20s and low 30s even as the
clouds increase during the early AM hours. Leaned on coldest
guidance along with previous forecaster.

Expect that the inverted ridging created in between the two
split waves should keep the overnight hours mainly dry. Will not
introduce POPs into CT until after 12Z.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 AM MONDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Mon...
Two vort maxes will approach from the W, however mid lvl ridging
in place will begin to weaken/open the associated waves as they
approach after sunrise. This overall weakening trend should
force the N of the two waves far enough into Canada to provide
little impact on New England.

However, S of the two waves looks to gradually induce offshore
cyclogenesis around mid day invof the Delmarva, likely enhanced
by local convection. The as this sfc low pres develops, it will
keep the warm front to the S of New England through the day as
well, yielding easterly flow. The gradual increasing moisture
through the column from this onshore draw, PWATS begin to exceed
1.00in, weak overruning N of the front and modest LLJ jet will
yield increase in precipitation shield across the region
particularly late morning and afternoon, peaking across the S
coast thanks to modest mid lvl deformation with the offshore low
development. QPF decreases from S-N, but in any case, just a
light to marginal rainfall expected.

Cool early AM temps as well as onshore flow are likely to keep
the highs mainly just below seasonal normals, upper 40s and low
50s expected.

Mon night...
Coastal low pres makes its closest pass during the early AM
hours of Tue morning, potentially crossing as far N as between
Cape/Islands. The lower lvl moisture remains in place, but some
mid lvl dry air will intrude as the low shifts E. Therefore,
overall rainfall will dissipate, but likely in favor of fog/DZ
development during the overnight hours. Slight push of 12Z LLJ
from the S may force portions of RI/SE MA into the warm sector
after sunrise, but any associated convection at this early hour
should stay offshore, closer to the axis of highest instability.

Min temps mild thanks to trapped moisture. Expecting mins to
hold in the 40s for the most part.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Highlights...

* Becoming milder with a period of showers Tue

* Dry and cooler next weekend

Tuesday into Tuesday night...

Broad longwave trough across the central and eastern CONUS with
fairly robust shortwave lifting NE from the Ohio valley. Ahead of
the shortwave, developing low level jet will advect anomalous PWATs
northward into SNE. Low level wind anomalies around 2SD above normal
with PWATs 2-3SD above normal. This points to potential for
widespread showers developing. However, this system is rather
progressive which will limit duration and rainfall amounts. Timing
of the showers will be mainly in the afternoon into the early
evening as the column is dry to start the day on Tue before moisture
advection increases. There is some elevated instability as well so
can't rule out an isolated t-storm. Expected rainfall amounts 0.50-
1" in the interior decreasing to around 0.25" near the coast.

Temps are tricky as departing sfc low in the Gulf of Maine with
ridging nosing down from the NE indicates that warm front will be
slow to lift north. It appears much of the day Tue may be in the
cool sector, especially interior with milder air reaching RI and SE
MA late in the day. Expect late day highs reaching into the 60s RI
and SE MA with temps ranging through the 50s elsewhere. Temps may
initially rise Tue evening before cooling overnight behind the cold
front. Regarding the strong wind potential, low level jet 55-60 kt
develops in the coastal plain late Tue/Tue evening but soundings
indicate low level lapse rates less than moist adiabatic. Probably
need temps into the upper 60s to mix this wind down which is not
expected at this time. Taking about 50 percent of the jet suggests
potential for gusts up to 35 mph across RI and SE MA late Tue/Tue
evening.

Wednesday and Thursday...

Column dries out significantly with westerly flow aloft. Expect
sunshine with temps near or a few degrees above normal Wed, but a
bit breezy with 20-30 mph gusts. Cooler Thu with diminishing wind.

Friday into Friday night...

Guidance in agreement on overall pattern with some amplification of
the pattern as digging jet drives mid level low southward to upper
Midwest and western Great Lakes. Low pres expected to develop
downstream of the mid level trough but models differ on track and
moisture as ECWMF is considerably wetter than GFS. EPS and GEFS
ensembles show more support for wetter ECMWF solution so expect
increasing risk of showers sometime Fri into Fri night.

Saturday and Sunday...

Low risk for a few lingering showers Sat assocd with passing
shortwave to the north. Otherwise, cooling trend expected with
mainly dry weather as high pres builds in from the west. Below
normal temps for the weekend, with Sunday the cooler of the weekend
days.
