The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of northern Connecticut, Massachusetts, and northern 
  Rhode Island, including the following areas, in northern 
  Connecticut, Hartford, Tolland, and Windham. In Massachusetts, 
  Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Northern Middlesex, and 
  Worcester. In northern Rhode Island, Northwest Providence. 

* Through Sunday morning

* Showers will develop overnight and continue at times through
  Saturday night. Some of these showers will result in localized
  torrential rainfall through Saturday night. This will bring the
  potential to cause rapid flooding along streams, creeks and
  other low-lying and poor drainage areas. 

* Localized urban flash flooding is also a possibility too.

After today's brief respite of lower humidity and mostly dry
weather, portions of our region should be moving into another
period of active weather. Isolated showers and/or thunderstorms
were already developing along a weak convergence line across
southern MA/northern CT. Thinking this convection will dissipate
around sunset.

A warm front will likely stall across southern New England
tonight. A decent low level jet will push above normal moisture
content into our region. The main concern tonight will be the
potential for downpours. Current timing of this threat is mainly
after midnight.

Some uncertainty on the exact locations remains. Working out
the details for timing of a Flash Flood Watch generally from
Worcester county westward in MA, northwest RI and northern CT.
These are also areas which saw some locally heavy rain within
the past few days.

We also should mention that there is the very low risk of an
isolated severe thunderstorm, but odds are against that. There
is enough low level helicity to be concern for the possibility
of a weak tornado late tonight. The question is can this
helicity get paired up with enough instability. Have some doubts
at this time. It will be something which needs to be watched.

If that were not enough, we are also monitoring the risk for
some splashover along the east coast of MA during the overnight
high tide. Tides have generally been running about a half foot
above normal. The approach of a new moon also means these tides
are a little higher to start with. Expecting an onshore flow
tonight, but light wave action. Splashover at the most
vulnerable locations is possible.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
* Localized Flash Flood Threat Sat, mainly across the interior

Threat of localized flash flooding continues. Expecting the
majority of any rainfall to fall across the interior. Not
thinking it will be a total washout all day. Plenty of clouds
should limit instability, so only a low risk for strong to
severe thunderstorms during Saturday and Saturday night.

Below normal high temperatures due to abundant clouds, with near
normal low temperatures expected. This could change should a a
warm front be forced farther north than current thinking, and
more of southern New England gets into the warm sector of a low
pressure in the Great Lakes.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Overview and model preferences...
As mentioned by the previous forecaster, a bifurcation of the
wave energy deepening across the OH valley is expected late in
the weekend. The first split occurs Sun, allowing weak open wave
to eject into the zonal N stream flow across N QC/Labrador Sun.
This should allow a slight resurgence of the Bermuda ridge,
with rising heights through the mid lvls across S New England
into Mon. As the remnant trof cuts and begins to meander E
toward New England, the combination of upper lvl difluence and
cold air will lead to a higher risk for SHRA/TSRA into the meed
week period. Although a period of drier wx is likely to follow
as the wave opens and shift E late week, confidence is somewhat
low as guidance diverges significantly beyond Wed. There is
enough agreement to continue with a consensus blend of guidance
for this update.

Temperatures/humidity...
Continued E flow off the Gulf of Maine will define the
temperatures Sun through Tue. Thus, even with H85 temps hovering
around +15C, highs are likely to remain at or below normal
values upper 70s to low/mid 80s). Lows increase in response to
influx of moisture and a return of dwpts in the upper 60s and
low 70s by Tue. Therefore, expect humidity to rise into early
next week as well. Warmer conditions return mid-late week as the
warm advection continues behind the exiting wave.

Precipitation...
Lingering SHRA and occasional TSRA possible ahead of a
lingering warm front through Sun. May be a bit of a lull Mon
into Tue due the rising heights/anticyclonic flow aloft peak.
However, with cooling mid lvl temps attendant to the cutoff,
diurnal SHRA/TSRA are possible with any local convergence. The
risk for SHRA/TSRA continue into mid week until the core of the
cutoff (opening with time) shifts E allowing drier air to filter
in from the NW sometime during the latter half of the week. As
previous forecaster also noted, no specific day is a washout, as
precipitation is likely to be disorganized and cellular,
convectively driven much of the time. High PWATs (near 2.00 in
or 2 std deviations above normal) suggest that with any
precipitation, heavy rainfall is possible.

Through 00Z...High confidence. VFR outside of a few brief
afternoon and evening spot showers and perhaps a rumble of
thunder. Localized sea breezes expected this afternoon with the
weak pressure gradient in place.

Tonight and Saturday...Moderate confidence. VFR conditions this
evening should deteriorate to MVFR-IFR thresholds very late
tonight, and especially Saturday. The bulk of showers/isolated
thunderstorms which may contain heavy rainfall very late tonight
into Saturday will be focused across the interior. This is also
where the greatest risk for the lower ceilings/vsbys.

Chance SHRA with isolated TSRA possible. Patchy BR.
