.SYNOPSIS...
The Bermuda high will bring excessive heat and humidity for the
upcoming week, lasting into Thursday. Shower and thunderstorm
chances will increase, mainly on Thursday, as a cold front
moves through which will break the heat on Friday. This front
may stall just south of the area into the weekend resulting in
the risk for scattered showers each day.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Trends in the forecast remain on track for today. Ridge to the
west remains as westerly flow dominate the region. Mixing
continues resulting in temperatures to warm into the low to
upper 80s. A few sites have hit 90F which is a bit higher then
prev thought. Thus will bump temps up today as well as tomorrow
as it appears guidance may be to cool.
Increasing pressure gradient across the south coast as lead to a
few gusts to near 15 MPH. Expect this continue until sunset.
Otherwise dry weather will remain with hazy conditions and
diurnal cu.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY/...
245 AM Update...
Tonight...
Short wave trough and associated convection currently over the Great
Lakes will advect into central-northern New England. Good model
agreement that bulk of lift and moisture associated with this
feature track north of southern New England. Thus just a low risk
for an isolated shower/T-storm will be confined to the MA/NH border
and points north, with dry weather expected southward across the
remainder of MA/RI and CT.
Surface warm front associated with this mid level feature that moves
across the area late tonight with warm sector airmass overspreading
southern New England. Dew pts will rise toward 70 toward morning.
Thus a warm night along with some patchy fog possible.
Tuesday...
*** Near Record High Temperatures ***
As short wave trough exits central-northern New England subtropical
ridge in the mid Atlantic region is allowed to surge northward into
New England with 500 mb heights 591+ dam. Impressive warm sector
with 925 mb temps surging up to +26C to +27C across southern New
England. This anomalous warmth combined with westerly blyr flow
(downslope component) of 15-20 kt will support highs in the low to
mid 90s. Low risk for a few locations to approach upper 90s given
downsloping WNW winds. These air temps coupled with dew pts rising
to 70-75 will yield heat indices of 100-105 possible! Hottest values
in the CT and Merrimack river valleys. Therefore will hoist
excessive heat watches for these areas and heat advisories for
locations with heat indices less than 100. Not matter how you slice
it uncomfortable conditions and dangerous for those having to be
outdoors for an extended period of time.
As for record highs see climate section below. It will be close to
record highs Tue but slightly higher prob Wed given records are a
few degs lower Wed than Tue.
As for precip, highs well into the 90s combined with dew pts of 70-
75 yield MU Capes of 1500-2000 j/kg. However given proximity to
subtropical ridge 500 mb heights across the area are on the order of
591+ dam. Thus atmosphere will be capped and therefore expecting dry
weather to prevail.

Upper ridge continues to dominate into Wednesday resulting in a
second day of excessive heat. Wednesday looks to be hottest day of
week as 850/925 mb temps support highs in mid to upper 90s,
especially considering W flow in which guidance tends to
underperform, even along E MA coast to Cape Cod. Not expecting any
diurnal convection given cold front is still well to our NW and
airmass is capped.
Thursday...
Ridge becomes suppressed to our south Thursday as cold front drops
SE across New England. Models are consistent in bringing front
through SNE Thu, reaching South Coast later in day. Parameters are
favorable for strong or even some severe storms, with plenty of ML
CAPE and 30-35kt of 0-6km shear, although shear may weaken with time
Thursday afternoon. Main concern is potential for urban flooding as
precipitable water values exceed 2 inches.
It's possible some locations top out in lower 90s once again, which
may eventually require extentions of Heat Advisories. However,
confidence decreases given uncertainty in cloud cover ahead of
front.
Friday into Sunday...
Relief from heat and humidity arrives as cold front stalls south of
region and high pressure builds across southern Canada. Onshore flow
may lead to more in way of clouds and scattered showers. Ensembles
hint at possibility of heat returning by end of holiday weekend but
confidence is low.
