...High astronomical tides could lead to localized coastal
flooding tonight...
* LOCATIONS...East Coast of Massachusetts.
* TIMING...Within a couple hours of high tide early Friday
morning.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...With high astronomical tides, some minor
splashover and inundation is possible tonight. Typically prone
locations could see splashover along with some road closures as
flooding impacts coastal roadways. The impacts will likely be
limited to only those locations that usually see
inundation/splashover in high astronomical tides.
&&
Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.
Category thresholds are based on still water levels. Impacts
may be greater, depending upon wave action.

3 AM EDT FRIDAY...
...Pockets of Minor Coastal Flooding Possible Overnight...
* LOCATIONS..The eastern MA coastline.
* TIMING...Within a couple hours on either side of the late night
and very early Friday morning high tide cycle.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Pockets of minor coastal flooding are
possible in the typically most vulnerable locations during the
late night and very early Friday morning high tide cycle. A few
of the vulnerable shoreline roadways may become briefly flooded
within an hour or two of high tide. This is not expected to be a
significant event and property damage is not anticipated.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory is issued for minor coastal flooding of
the most vulnerable shore roads and/or basements due to the
height of storm tide or wave splashover. The majority of roads
remain passable with only isolated closures. There is no
significant threat to life...and impact on property is minimal.

Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.
Category thresholds are based on still water levels. Impacts
may be greater, depending upon wave action.

.SYNOPSIS...
Dry Thursday with some showers early Friday along with cooler
temperatures. Dry weather continues this week along with a
warming trend. Near record heat arrives Monday along with humid
conditions. An approaching cold front may trigger scattered
thunderstorms. Behind the front, less humid and seasonably warm
weather follows Tue and Wed of next week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
OBs combined with a boundary apparent on WSR-88D suggest that at
the time of this writing (about 07Z) the cold front is near the
RI/CT border with MA and shifting SSE with time. This front is
weakening as its attendant upper shortwave also weakens. So
generally, the front is introducing mainly drier air, rather
than cooler air as drier air continues to entrain through the
column in the mid and upper lvls.
As the front shifts E, expect clearing this morning with most
places seeing sunny conditions through the morning. However,
with modest lingering moisture and a much more acute shortwave
rotating out of Quebec and N New England. This will introduce
more widespread cloud cover especially where terrain enhances
the upslope motion, in essence mainly across the interior.
Therefore, highs will be warmest near the coastlines, enhanced
by some downsloping. Highs there could reach the upper 70s,
while interior locations top out mainly in the low 70s.
Mainly dry, but a sprinkle is possible later in the day ahead
of the shortwave, but its likely much of it will be lost to
virga thanks to a well mixed BL. Breezy as W-E gradient should
allow for some gust around 30 mph at times.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM FRIDAY/...
Overnight...
Strong N stream shortwave rotates out of the N, dragging a low
lvl cold front across the region. Noting some modest moisture
pooling from the sfc to H7, with PWATs nearing 1.2in. Guidance
has continually increased potential QPF each successive, run,
therefore, looking at SCT to widespread SHRA mainly during the
early AM, as the wave makes its closest pass. highest POPs
mainly across E MA/RI, closest to the vort-max. Damp roadways
expected by morning. Otherwise, even though the wave introduces
H85 temps much below normal, the widespread cloud cover will
limit mins in the low-mid 50s.
Fri...
Lingering SHRA dissipate with the wave passage. However, clouds
may take longer to fully dissipate through the day. On top of
this, H85 temps dip as low as +5C as a colder airmass is
introduced. This will limit diurnal heating, likely limiting
highs in the 60s to low 70s, mainly below normal, especially
where cloud cover is observed much of the day. Other than the
early AM SHRA, mainly dry wx is expected.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Highlights...

* Turning less humid Tue and Wed with seasonably warm temps
Friday night...
Cool airmass overspreads the region Fri behind departing northern
stream short wave with 850 mb temps lowering to +6C across the area.
This is about -1 standard deviation cooler than climo. As 1020 mb
high moves into PA Fri night pgrad slackens across southern New
England. This will set the stage for radiational cooling given light
NW winds, mostly clear skies and a very dry airmass (sfc dew pts in
the 40s). Thus will lean toward the cooler MOS for mins which
suggest lows in the mid to upper 40s in western MA and farther east
into the I495 corridor of eastern MA southward to MVY. Elsewhere
mins in the low 50s.
This Weekend...
Mean mid level trough is positioned just offshore 12z Sat and
continues to move seaward allowing anomalous warm 591 dam ridge
developing over the TN valley to build eastward. This results in
summer heat and humidity to begin advecting east into New England.
However with temps warming each day over the weekend (80-85 Sat and
85-90 Sun) the uncomfortable humidity appears to hold off until
Monday. So Saturday looks very pleasant with dew pts in the 50s and
still tolerable Sunday with Tds 55-60.
Early Next Week...
591 dam ridge over the OH valley advects an anomalous warm airmass
into New England with both EC and GFS 850 mb temps of +20C/+21C
advecting into the area. Ensembles not too far behind at +18C to
+19C. These temps aloft combined with WSW surface winds will support
near record highs of 90-95 away from the south coast. exacerbating the
heat will be very humid conditions with dew pts climbing to around
70. Even the typically conservative EC has a dew pt of 72F for
Boston 00z Tue! The summer heat and humidity will be short lived as
northern stream energy begins to erode the northeast portion of the
ridge over our area late Mon. This jet energy combined with
accompanying cold front may trigger scattered T-storms. A few strong
storms are possible given moist/unstable airmass over the region.
Limiting factor for storms will be lack of low level convergence
with blyr winds likely westerly. Still 4 days away so plenty can
change. FROPA occurs sometime Mon night giving way to less humid and
dry weather Tue and Wed with seasonably warm temps.

east coast of Massachusetts. Although offshore wave action is
limited, and winds are predominantly offshore, there is a risk

closures due to some tidal flooding. Coastal Flood Statement
will be issued for tonight's high tide.
