.SYNOPSIS...
Increasing humidity will lead to a few showers and
thunderstorms late today into Sunday. Hot and humid conditions
Monday, then a cold front will bring numerous showers and
thunderstorms Tuesday into Tuesday night with locally heavy
rainfall possible. Warm and mainly dry conditions follow for
Wednesday through the end of next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
High pres will remain to the east today as a mid level
shortwave approaches from the west. Models indicate a decent
influx of moisture with increasing KI values into the 30s and
PWATs increasing over 1.75 inches this afternoon. The increasing
moisture in the column may be accompanied by scattered showers
developing, mainly this afternoon in the west, but isolated
showers may reach western New Eng this morning along the leading
edge of the higher moisture. The environment is mostly stable
through 18z then CAPES increase to around 1000 J/kg in the west
as dewpoints climb through the 60s. This may result in a few
t-storms developing mid/late afternoon in western New Eng as a
weak front approaches from the west. Deep layer shear is weak so
not expecting any strong storms, but locally heavy downpours
are possible with any t-storms.

850 mb temps increasing to 14-15C late in the day but full
heating potential will be limited somewhat by increasing clouds.
Highs should reach low to mid 80s away from the coast with upper
80s possible in the lower CT valley. Temps will hold in the 70s
along the coast as sea breezes develop.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM SUNDAY/...
Tonight...

Rather moist environment in place with PWATs near 2 inches
along with marginal elevated instability. Weak shortwave and
frontal boundary moves into SNE tonight so the risk of
scattered showers and isolated t-storms will continue. Locally
heavy downpours possible. A mild and more humid night with lows
in the 60s.

Sunday...

There may be some lingering shower activity Sun morning, then
clouds give way to partly sunny skies from north to south.
Tricky convection forecast for Sunday afternoon. Higher
dewpoints near 70 degrees will move into the region and this
will result in a more unstable environment developing with CAPES
1000-2000 J/kg possible. However, weak large scale subsidence
may develop behind departing shortwave moving east from northern
New Eng. In addition, models indicate the column drying from
the north with considerable dry air above 700 mb moving into the
region. So while there will be a moderately unstable
environment, lack of forcing and dry air are limiting factors.
We will have chc pops for Sunday but it could end up a mostly
dry day after any early morning showers.

Sunday will be a rather warm and humid day. 850 mb temps around
16C support highs well into the 80s with some lower 90s possible
in the interior if sunshine develops early enough. Sea breezes
expected to develop again which will keep the immediate
coastline a bit cooler.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Highlights...

* Widespread heavy rainfall from approaching cold front Tues/Wed
* Dry weather Thursday into Friday

Overview...

00z model guidance continues to show good agreement on the evolution
of the synoptic pattern through next Friday. Still some minor timing
and strength issues. Therefore will continue to favor a consensus
approach to smooth over the less predictable details.

Mid-level ridge builds over the Northeast as potent shortwave moves
across southern Canada.  This wave will bring a strong cold front
through the region on Tuesday. Surface high pressure quickly filters
in Wednesday into Friday. Building high pressure over the Western
CONUS will result in a more active weather pattern for next weekend.

Details...

Temperatures...

Increasing warmth and humidity on Monday and Tuesday due to
increasing southerly flow and WAA. Seasonable temperatures with less
humid conditions remain for the rest of the week behind passing cold
front.

Precipitation...

Generally dry weather on Monday. Could see a spot shower or
thunderstorms across the western zones due to hot, humid airmass.

The focus is on Tuesday into early Wednesday time-frame. Guidance
has sped up the timing of the FROPA. Overall, still an anomalous
airmass with warm and muggy conditions ahead of sharp cold front
passing through. PWATs reach 2-3 std above normal, 2.3 inches, and
with high theta-e values and dewpoints well over 70F expect
widespread rainfall which could lead to urban and poor drainage
flooding. BUFKIT soundings all hint as warm cloud processes due to
increase LLJ and skinny CAPE. Thus cannot rule out some flash
flooding. Models also hint at shear values near 20-35 kts and with
modest lapse rates and increasing instability, cannot rule out some
strong storms.

Improving conditions behind the front as surface high pressure moves
into the area. Will have to watch the weekend as the pattern turns
more active.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
High astronomical tides will continue for the high tide cycle
late tonight. Both wave action and surge will not be a factor, but
just a 0.2 to 0.3 ft tidal departure will be enough for pockets
of minor splashover for vulnerable areas along east coastal MA
during the high tide after midnight.

Astronomical tides are still elevated for the high tide cycle
early Monday morning but a bit less than late tonight. With
minimal wave action and surge, do not anticipate any issues with
this high tide cycle.

Interesting to note, astronomical high tides will again be high
in mid-August but a little lower than the current set of astro
tides. The next set of high astronomical tides in Jan-Feb will
be lower than the August tides. This trend to lower values for
the highest astronomical tides continues through at least the
end of 2019.
