...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM CDT /6 AM
MDT/ TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Snow and blowing snow. Additional snow accumulations of 
  up to two inches are expected.

* WHERE...Grant, Sioux, Emmons, McIntosh and Dickey counties.

* WHEN...Until 7 AM CDT /6 AM MDT/ Tuesday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions, 
  including during the morning commute on Tuesday. In addition, 
  areas of poor visibility are likely. Winds gusting as high as 
  35 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means periods
of snow and blowing snow will cause primarily travel
difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities,

Guidance continues to come in with the NAM remaining further north
on the H700 mb low and the QPF. Latest Superblend keeps the QPF
across the southern third of teh state. Will probably trend toward
this solution.

Without much new guidance will update the current observations
only. Will want to see the new NAM as yesterday it was the
outlier.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)

Quiet for the short term period.

Clear and cold today but not windy like Saturday so drifting snow
across roadways, melting and re-freezing should not be a problem
today. Although icy spots still remain from yesterday. With abundant
sunshine, even starting out so cold, we should still recover nicely
with highs in the 20s most areas but 30s southwest. Not great for
early April, but it will feel much nicer than Saturday.

Clouds begin to increase late in the day west with skies becoming
mostly cloudy tonight ahead of the next system that impacts the area
on Monday.

.LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday)

Upper level low along the central British Columbia coast will
continue to drop south into the northern Rockies by early
Monday. The low then propagates south and east through the
northern high plains and into the northern plains by early
Tuesday. Surface low pressure develops ahead of the trough over
the central high plains Sunday night, and tracks across the
central/southern plains through Tuesday.

The mid and upper level system tracks across southern Montana and
along the ND/SD border producing a swath of precipitation that
spreads across North Dakota Monday and Monday night.

Previous runs have been farther south, but the latest 00 UTC runs
from the ECMWF and NAM have shifted farther north. The GFS did
shift the qpf a little south from its previous run but qpf
amounts were higher. A look at the GFS shows an extended period
of synoptic scale ascent across southern North Dakota Monday and
Monday night. But the lower level frontogenetic forcing is
maximized south of the forecast area. this seems reasonable, but
the forcing is close enough to the far southwest to be concerned.
The track of the 70H low is favorable for southwest ND and with
the NAM and especially the EC farther north with the qpf pattern,
have decided to issue a watch for the far southwest portion of
North Dakota. We do think the NAM may be too far north so it's qpf
pattern was minimized on Monday. SuperBlend seemed too far north
due to the northern displacement of NAM QPF, so we tempered this
solution with a mix of GFS/EC and Canadian qpf, which maximized
precipitation over the far southwest, instead of as far north as
Lake Sakakawea given the NAM. The O6 UTC NAM remains north, so
much uncertainty still remains with the eventual snowfall. Models
continue to favor all snow, so we got rid of the widespread
freezing rain the model blend was giving us Monday morning.

At this time it looks like the far southwest would be favored for
Warning criteria snow amounts, thus the warning. And with
collaboration with MT offices and UNR it blends well with their
snowfall solution. We will continue the SPS and expand it
eastward to cover the entire forecast area along and south of
Interstate 94, as Advisory Snow amounts could occur if current
model trends hold.

Northwest flow aloft and surface high pressure over western and
central North Dakota will allow for dry conditions through the
week. The exception to this will be light snow potential across
southwest North Dakota Wednesday night through Friday, closest to
a meandering baroclinic zone with weak synoptic scale ascent
periodically pushing over this boundary. The rest of western and
central North Dakota looks dry and cold Tuesday through Friday.
Although there are timing differences, both the GFS/ECMWF show a
more significant system possibly impacting western and central ND
next weekend and/or into early the following week.

Arctic high over the region at Noon CDT will move east of teh
region as a developing winter storm across Wyoming and Montana
will move east tonight. Expect deteriorating conditions to MVFR
after 06-10z across the region and IFR KDIK in snow after 12Z.
