...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

* WINDS...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, especially 
  over the exposed, higher terrain areas.

* TIMING...The strongest winds are expected during the late 
  afternoon and early evening hours.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree 
  limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Wind advisories are issued when sustained wind speeds of at
greater than 30 mph and/or wind gusts over 45 mph are expected.
Winds of this magnitude could cause minor damage to trees, power
lines and weaker structures. Persons in the advisory area should
secure all loose objects. If you are traveling through the
advisory area keep a firm grip on the wheel, especially for those
driving high profile vehicles.

.SYNOPSIS...
A westerly flow of colder air will be over the area today
bringing clouds and a few showers, mainly over central New York.
High pressure will build in for Sunday bringing milder air and
clearing skies.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As the surface low moves northward into western New England a
sharp upper wave will rotate through the area today bringing
another area of showers. Most of this precipitation will be
light but with some diurnal assistance a few heavier showers
possible as the upper trough line swings through. The deepening
surface low will create some gusty winds during the afternoon,
with gusts well into the 30s possible, especially over the
higher terrain of the Catskills.

Behind the system tonight, a WNW flow will develop with 850mb
temps dropping below 0c. This will generate some lake enhanced
showers, mainly of rain but some mixed with snow are possible
away from the lake and over the higher terrain.

Surface high builds in for Sunday and upper heights quickly
recover. Sun and warm air advection will help temperatures
recover nicely in the afternoon.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
Several cold fronts and areas of low pressure will move through
the region during this timeframe. The first area of low
pressure will move up the east coast Monday and Monday night
with a cold front approaching from the west that is decaying.
These two features will combine to produce some light showers
with the highest chances the further south and east you go. A
much stronger cold front and area of low pressure will then push
through the region on Tuesday with a more concentrated round of
showers.

With these various fronts moving through temperatures will be back
and forth quite a bit. We will likely start off with steady
temperatures around 40 Monday night that might even rise slightly
late in the night. With southerly flow, temperatures will warm into
the 50's Monday. Lows Monday night will be kept up in the 40's due
to clouds and showers. A fairly warm day looks to be on tap Tuesday
with a fairly stout warming of the modeled boundary layer. Any peaks
of sunshine could allow for highs to get into the 60's across the
region, and this forecast did go above blended model guidance with
the highs Tuesday. Temperatures fall back into the 40's behind the
second cold front.

This timeframe also looks windy as well. Modeled bufkit soundings
show the potential for frequent gusty periods as well with the
potential for 20-30 mph gusts at times. Rainfall looks light on
Monday. However, a quick half to three quarters of an inch is
possible within a 6-12 hour period Tuesday and Tuesday night which
could cause some ponding of water and minor urban flooding issues.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Our region will be in westerly flow with another weak boundary
moving through Wednesday. With the westerly flow, some lake
effect showers will still be around through Wednesday night.
This will be followed by high pressure moving through the area
Thursday into Friday. Another cold front will push toward the
region on Friday. Bufkit once again shows the potential for
strong wind gusts of 20 mph or more Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday looks a bit warmer in the 50's before a cooler airmass
heads in to end the week with highs falling back into the 40's.
Overnight lows will cool back into the 30's as well.
Temperatures will start a warming trend Friday with the next
round of rain showers moving through.

.AVIATION /12Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...

Widespread MVFR and IFR over the area this morning with mainly
light rain. An upper short wave will swing through the area
today continuing showers through midday, followed by increasing
winds and improving conditions. Expect VFR at all locations
later in the afternoon and in the evening. Winds will tend to
become lighter overnight as the big surface low over New
England slowly pulls out.

Outlook...

Sunday...Mainly VFR.

Monday through Wednesday...Restrictions possible in rain
showers.
