.NEAR TERM...(Today through Tonight)

High impact weather potential: None.

Pattern synopsis and forecast:

Very quiet out there early this morning. High pressure is nosing in
from south central Canada, with a cool, dry northerly flow spreading
throughout nrn Michigan. Deeper moisture is displaced well south of
here, across the Ohio valley, associated with a frontal zone. There
is another moisture-starved cold front seen laid out across srn
Canada, not producing any precipitation. There was however, a pocket
of low to mid level WAA across the NC conus, associated with a LLJ
on the southerly return flow side of the high pressure. This was
resulting in scattered showers and thunderstorms across ND/MN. Some
of this convective cloud debris was trying to make it's way eastward
toward nrn Michigan.

Not much excitement in the weather through tonight. The cool and dry
low level air will persist across the region, with the srn Canada
moisture-starved front dropping into the region this afternoon and
into tonight. The core of sfc high pressure will be centered over
Ontario, while the pocket of WAA/forcing shifts northward into
central Canada. The only real concerns in the weather will be for
the cooling air mass and growing overlake instability that may be
able to result in some lake clouds tonight, coming in via brisk east
winds off Lake Huron. The air mass is going to start out very dry
though, and despite greater than 10C delta T's at 925mb/13C at H8,
it's going to be pretty tough to moisten up the low levels to result
in any significant lake clouds. Temperatures will get quite chilly
however, with expected lows Saturday morning in the low to mid 40s
in most areas.

.SHORT TERM...(Saturday through Sunday)

High Impact Weather Potential: Minimal

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast: High pressure will continue to pass south
of James Bay through the day Saturday, getting to the New England
coast by Sunday. Meanwhile, the remnants of currently tropical
depression Gordon will move up through the Ohio Valley, nearing the
Great Lakes by Sunday night.

Primary Forecast Concerns: With high pressure overhead for much of
the short term period, the primary concern will be with any rain
potential Sunday night as the remnants of Gordon approach the area.
Right now there is pretty good agreement that the low will pass over
the Thumb early Monday, with rain chances arriving to the southeast
portion of the CWA by Sunday night. While there will be enhanced
moisture with the system, the heavier rainfall will be to our
southeast over OH/PA/NY. Areas near Saginaw Bay will likely see the
more locally higher rain amounts with this system, with perhaps a
half to three quarters of an inch through Monday.

Aside from that, have lowered the overnight low temps for Saturday
night with a dry, cool airmass in place and strong radiational
cooling likely.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Thursday)

As with the end of the short term, the main concern will be with the
precipitation potential Monday as the remnants of Gordon pass over
the Great Lakes. We are currently on the northern edge of the precip
shield, and any decent southward change in the track of this would
keep the precip south of us. Once this passes, the remainder of the
week currently looks warm, quiet, and dry. Temperatures will warm
through the week, with well above normal temperatures by mid-week
and getting warmer heading into the weekend.

Strong Canadian high pressure and dry air extends from south-
central Canada down into the western Great Lakes. This system will
slowly work through the Great Lakes region over the next few days,
maintaining solid VFR conditions and mainly clear skies at the
terminal sites. One caveat, a small area of convection along the
North Dakota/Minnesota border late this evening will spread some
mid cloud cover down into the region on Friday.

Otherwise, light/calm winds tonight. Lighter northerly winds on
Friday with sustained winds largely under 10 knots.

A moisture-starved cold front will drop through nrn Michigan this
afternoon and into this evening, with northerly winds turning
easterly and increasing to advisory levels tonight and into Saturday
morning for most of the nearshore waters. The gradient may stay
tight enough or tighten back up again for continued advisory winds
across Lake Huron through the weekend.
