afternoon...then reforms off of the New Jersey coast tonight. A
warm front lifts north along the Virginia and North Carolina
coasts this afternoon...with a cold front crossing the region
this evening. The low rapidly deepens off the coast Friday into
Saturday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Wx shaping up about as expected attm...w/ an area of -RA
spreading across srn half of the FA. Sfc lo pres invof central
OH Valley attm will be tracking into PA through this
afternoon. A warm front will be slow to make progress N from the
Carolinas this afternoon...potentially reaching SE VA by the end
of the day. Weak in-situ CAD to remain over much of the
FA...keeping temperatures down as clouds/-RA are the rule. The
lowest PoPs...40-60% N...w/ 60-80% S. QPF through this eve avgg
0.10-0.25"...except 0.25-0.50" near/S of the VA-NC border.
Keeping very lo prob for ISOLD tstms in far SE VA-NE NC (late).
Highs in the m-u50s in MD/VA...l60s over far SE VA-NE NC.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The potent s/w to the west tracks across the northeast and provides
impetus for primary low pres transfer to the coastal system tonight.
This will quickly push the cold front offshore ending the pcpn threat
west to east this evening with sct shwrs lingering along the coast
thru the overnite hrs. Drier air punching in from the west allows
for dcrg cldns across the west. Winds begin to incrs late tonite
in response to the coastal low taking shape. Lows from the upr 30s
north to mid 40s se.

The low rapidly deepens off the srn New England coast Friday then is
slow to move east and away from the coast Fri nite and Sat.  Models
also depict svrl trofs that rotate arnd the main offshore low thru
Fri nite. What this will do is to keep enuf moisture near the coast
for low chc pops along the Delmarva thru Fri nite. Otw, downsloping
winds will keep it dry with more sun across the Piedmont and more
clouds along the coast. Strong CAA develops Fri with gusty winds
quickly increasing. BUFR/BUFKIT soundings continue to show wind
gusts Fri thru early Sat of 35-50 mph...potentially a bit higher
near the immediate coast as the storm strengthens. Will continue the
high wind watch for now and let day crew decide whether to upgrade
to a warning or wnd advsry.

The strong downsloping winds will also aid in lwrg dew point temps
across the Piedmont into the 15-20 degree range Fri aftrn. This will
likely drop rh values into the 20s across the Piedmont. Highs Fri in
the upr 40s-upr 50s. Lows Fri nite in the 30s.

Pt-mstly sunny Sat but continued breezy/windy as the low is slow to
pull east. Highs in the mid 40s-lwr 50s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Sprawling/strong low pres will continue to swirl between about
60-65W lon into Tue before drifting farther out to sea.
Meanwhile...sfc hi pres will be slow to build into the region
from the W-N late in the weekend-Mon. Mainly N winds will remain
gusty at the coast through Mon. Lo pres tracking into/through
the Great Lakes Mon night-Wed pushes a cold front across the
local area w/ possible SHRAs (esp Tue night). Otherwise...the
extended portion of the fcst will average seasonable...w/ most
highs in the l-m50s each day...lows mainly in the 30s.

.AVIATION /15Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Rain in advance of an apprchg warm front will overspread the
area thru the morning hours with CIGS/VSBYS quickly deteriorating
into IFR in rain/fog. Expection will be at SBY where MVFR CIGS
will cont thru the late aftrn hrs. This area of pcpn moves north
today with a svrl hr period of sct shwrs as sern TAF sites as
that area becomes warm sectored. Isltd thunder psbl at ORF/ECG
btwn 21Z-02Z, but chcs are to low to put in the forecast attm.
Meanwhile, RIC may not get out of the low clouds as the frnt
snakes its way across the region. Shwrs accompany the trailing
cold front as it moves w-e across the region this aftrn/even.
Gusty w winds btwn 15-25 kts develop behind the fropa late tonite.

OUTLOOK...
Strong low pres develops off the NJ and srn New England coasts
beginning Fri and will be slowly meandering S then SE over the
weekend. Expected generally VFR conditions...through NNW winds
will be gusty to 30-45 kt. Winds slowly wane late in the weekend
as sfc hi pres builds into the region.

.MARINE...
Raising Storm Warnings for the Ocean waters beginning at 08Z/02.

Previous discussion:
Kept headlines in place on early this morning's fcst, with at
least Gale conditions expected acrs the entire marine area Fri
into Sat aftn, with Storm conditions possible over the coastal
waters later Fri morning into Sat aftn. A warm front lifts
acrs the area during today. Expect southerly winds of 5 to 15
knots over the waters with seas of 2 to 3 feet and waves of 1 to
2 feet.

Low pressure will then pass north of the region this evening,
then re-develop and rapidly intensify off the New Jersey/srn New
England coast late tonight through Fri. The low slowly drifts
ESE Fri night through Sat. Model guidance overnight still
continues to advertise a widespread gale event for all of the
waters Fri through much of Sat, with wind gusts in excess of 45
knots. A Storm Watch remains in effect for the coastal waters
fm later Fri morning into Sat aftn, as gusts arnd 50 knots are
appearing more likely. In addition to the winds, seas rapidly
build to 7 to 10 feet in the coastal waters Fri night, waves
build to 4 to 7 feet in the Bay. Seas build even higher Sat
and Sun, as strong northerly winds remain over the waters.

Strong north winds continue through Sun and Gale Warnings will
likely need to be replaced with Small Craft Advisories. A high
pressure ridge will build in by Mon, with winds diminishing, but
Small Craft Advisories may linger well into next week, due to
elevated seas.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As low pressure deepens rapidly offshore of the NE and Mid Atlc
coast tonight through Sat, tidal anomalies will slowly be ramping
up during this period. So, have extended the Coastal Flood
Watch for the Atlc coastal zones and communities along the lower
Chesapeake Bay thru Sun aftn. Have started the hazard early to
account for the first high tide cycle on Fri. Given quickly
increasing winds, the long duration fetch of strong northerly
winds, and the resulting significant swell and wave action that
will interact with coastal zones, expect that even the higher
ETSS guidance could be too low with water levels/anomalies in
the Fri night through Sun time period, and quite possibly beyond
into early next week.

The result will translate to several periods of minor to locally
moderate coastal flood impacts Fri thru Sun, with the greatest
concern at this time over the Coastal Flood Watch area.
Additionally, given strong NW then N winds Fri night and Sat
morning, concern is growing for possible major flood impacts
over portions of the Atlc coastal areas with high tide cycles
Sat thru Sun. Wave action and winds could combine to create
significant erosion and possibly some minor overwash over
several high tide cycles from coastal NE NC up to near Ocean
City MD. These impacts are still several forecast periods away.
