Low pressure moves northeast through the Ohio Valley tonight,
then reforms off the Mid Atlantic coast Thursday night. The
associated warm front lifts north into the local area Thursday
morning with the trailing cold front crossing the region
Thursday evening. The low deepens signficantly off the coast
Friday into Saturday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THURSDAY MORNING/...
Sfc hi pres currently sits just off the NC coast this afternoon.
Period of partial clearing...esp N and central areas...has
occurred as anticipated earlier. However...clouds beginning to
spread back into the area from the WSW. Expecting CIGs to
gradually lower this eve-overnight. Initial -RA beginning to
show signs of missing local area to the S (while coverage
decreasing). Will be ramping up PoPs SSW to NNE after this
eve...eventually reaching 20-40% NE and 60-70F across all of srn
VA-NE NC. Lows from the u40s N and NE to the l50s in SE VA-NE
NC.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Primary sfc lo pres tracks to near Lake Erie by Fri eve. A warm
front will be pulled N Thu morning...but likely will be difficult
to push N of the entire FA during the rest of the day. The
geniune warm front looks to get stuck invof VA-NC border...and
will likely differentiate cooler/cloudy wx w/ periods of -RA N
and somewhat warmer/becoming a bit unstable just to its SSE
(primarily in far SE VA-NE NC). Will include slight chc tstm
over portions of SE VA-NE NC...though would not be surprised to
see an ISOLD across the far NNW closer to the stronger upper
level system (late in the day). Models suggest a split in the
QPF...w/ highest across srn-SE VA and across NE NC. Highs 50-55F
N to m-u60s in NE NC.

Attention turns to developing/strengthening storm system late
Thu night into Sat off the NJ-srn New England coasts. Primary lo
pres transfer to the coastal system Thu night...then CAA ramps
up Fri w/ winds increasing/becoming very gusty. Other than lo
PoPs invof ern shore after Thu eve...Thu night-Sat expected to
dry though chilly. BUFKIT soundings suggest wind gusts Fri-early
Sat of 30-50 mph...potentially a bit higher near the coast as
the storm strengthens. Will be raising a High Wind Watch for
counties along the Bay and Ocean...beginning early Fri morning
then continuing through Sat morning-early Sat afternoon. Lows
Thu night around 40F NNW to the m40s SE. Highs Fri in the m-u40s
N and on the ern shore to the m50s in far SE VA-NE NC. Lows Fri
night in the l30s W to the u30s E. Highs Sat from the u40s-
l50s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sprawling/strong lo pres will continue to swirl between about
60-65W lon into Tue before drifting farther out to sea.
Meanwhile...sfc hi pres will be slow to build into the region
from the W-N late in the weekend-Mon. Mainly N winds will remain
gusty at the coast through Mon. Lo pres tracking into/through
the Great Lakes Mon night-Wed pushes a cold front across the
local area w/ possible SHRAs (esp Tue night). Otherwise...the
extended portion of the fcst will average seasonable...w/ most
highs in the l-m50s each day...lows mainly in the 30s.

.AVIATION /20Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
VFR conditions through about the initial half of the 18Z/28 TAF
forecast period as moisture is slow to spread into the region
from the WSW. SSW winds a little gusty to 20-25 kt as sfc hi
pres shifts slowly off the coast. Lowering CIGs after 03-09Z/01
to MVFR and eventually IFR (late tonight/Thu morning) as -RA
begins (lastly at SBY). Lo pres tracking to the ern Great Lakes
by Thu eve...pulls a warm front N to about the VA-NC border by
afternoon...then a cold front off the coast Thu eve. Lo prob for
tstms invof far SE VA-NE NC...mainly Thu eve. Strong lo pres
develops off the NJ and srn New England coasts beginning Fri and
will be slowly meandering S then SE over the weekend. Expected
generally VFR conditions...through NNW winds will be gusty to
30-45 kt. Winds slowly wane late in the weekend as sfc hi pres
builds into the region.

.MARINE...
Will not be hoisting any headlines on this morning's fcst
issuance, as expect generally southerly winds 5-15 kt over the
waters today thru Thu, as high pressure slides out to sea and a
warm front lifts into and acrs the area. Waves will remain 1-2
ft, with seas 2-3 ft.

The attention then turns to intensifying/strong low pressure off
the srn New England coast, and drifting SE off the Mid Atlc
coast late Thu night into Sat night. Gale conditions will be
likely at least over the Ches Bay and coastal waters Fri into
much of Sat. As a result, SSW winds will quickly turn W Thu
night then NW on Fri, and rapidly increase. Expect sustained NW
winds of 30-35 kt across the coastal waters with gusts to up 45
kt, and 25-30 kt in the bay, with gusts up to 40 kt. Would not
be shocked to see some storm force gusts late Fri into Fri night
farther offshore. In addition, seas will rapidly build to 7-10
ft in the coastal waters Fri night and 4-6 ft in the bay. Seas
will build even higher for Sat thru Sun, as strong N winds
remain over the waters.

This low will be slow to move out, so although winds will gradually
turn more northerly by Sat, expect gale force conditions, at
least in gusts, to possibly continue thru Sat night. Winds will
slowly subside Sun night into Mon.
