The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Coastal
Flood Advisory, which is in effect until 7 PM EDT this evening.

* LOCATION...Mobjack Bay

* TIMING...A few hours either side of this afternoons high tide. 

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is expected in the 
  most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline 
  resulting in a low threat of property damage. Some roads and 
  low lying property including parking lots, parks and lawns 
  near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Coastal Flood Advisory means that onshore winds...wave action
and/or tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along
the shore...and near tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the
possibility of road closures and minor flooding of properties. If

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will move through the area this evening through
Saturday morning. High pressure builds in from the north
Saturday night and Sunday, and becomes centered over the region
Sunday night into Monday bringing much cooler and drier
conditions to the region.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...
As of 315 PM EDT Friday...

As expected, a line of storms have developed from NE to SW
across the forecast area ahead of the pre-frontal trough. Main
concern with these storms will be heavy rainfall with
precipitable water values greater than 2.0 inches. In fact,
Ocean City already saw 2+ inches in an hour with some street
flooding. Similar will likely occur all along the line through
the evening. Could not rule out a localized wet microburst given
the DCAPE values of up to 1000 J/KG across the far SE forecast
area.

The actual cold front is still over the mountains, but will
move through the area quickly this evening. Not much activity W
and NW of RIC, and with the winds turning N-NW behind the pre-
frontal trough, it seems possible that not much more than
scattered showers/storm will occur even with the front itself
this evening. As such, have opted to go with categorical PoPs
across the far SE late this afternoon into this evening,
tapering to CHC in the RIC metro and slight chance far NW.

The front will slow down this evening as it runs up against the
strong subtropical high to the east. Will therefore maintain
chance or even likely PoPs across the far southeastern part of
the area through the night.

Lows will range from the mid 60s NW to mid 70s SE.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 315 PM EDT Friday...

The cold front moves south of the area by Saturday morning.
Much drier dew points and cooler temps expected tomorrow as a
strong Canadian high builds north of the area. This high
combined with the low off of the Carolina coast will allow for
much of the area under N-NE winds. Some lingering showers
possible across the far SE with the surface front hanging up
just south of the area. Otherwise, clearing skies with highs
only around 80, with dew points in the 50s-lower 60s. Continued
dry Sunday into Monday, although temps will be warming again as
the upper ridge builds back over the area. Highs on Sunday in
the 80s and upper 80s to near 90 on Monday. Will need to watch
for additional showers on Sunday across the far SE but the
thinking is that the dry airmass north of the area will be
enough to keep any showers south.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 315 PM EDT Friday...

Latest 06/12Z GFS is still the outlier as it is forecasting major
intensification of sfc low pressure off the Carolina coast Tue-Wed.
Also, the latest 12z GFS forecast position of this system has
shifted a couple hundred miles east (when compared to the 06/00z
run). Therefore, our area is progged to see little to no rain from
this potential tropical system at this time. Latest 06/12z ECMWF/CMC
forecasts continue to show much less in the way of intensification
and also project the system to be a few hundred miles east of the
Carolina coast.

The latest 06/12z suite of guidance is still forecasting an upper
level trough to slowly track E/SE through southeastern Canada/the
northeastern US. In addition, a weak cold front approaches the
region mid-late next week before washing out just north of the CWA.
Coupled with several disturbances in the NW flow aloft, this will
lead to t-storm chances from Wednesday through Friday. Since we are
still several days out, it is difficult to pin down the finer
details at this time. Therefore, decided to go with area-wide slight
chc-chance PoPs from Wed-Fri.

Not much variation in the temperatures from Tuesday-Friday, as
daytime highs are expected to vary between 88-94 degrees. Morning
lows will be in the mid-upper 60s inland/low 70s near the coast on
Tuesday before warming into the low-mid 70s area-wide from Wed-
Fri.

.AVIATION /19Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 200 PM EDT Friday...

Mainly VFR conditions at the sites as of 1730UTC, however a line
of showers and thunderstorms have developed across the region,
generally extending from the MD eastern shore southwest through
the Peninsula to South Hill. Expect these storms to move SE late
this afternoon into this evening, possibly causing brief IFR
conditions at PHF/ORF and ECG. Looks like SBY and RIC has seen
the winds shift to the W or NW, suggesting that the likelihood
of thunderstorm activity has diminished there. Behind these
storms, expect showers to persist through the evening,
especially across the eastern sites. However, conditions should
remain VFR through tomorrow. Guidance suggests MVFR cigs at ORF
and ECG on Saturday morning with brisk NE flow behind the front.

As of 330 AM EDT Friday...

High pressure will retreat east today as a cold front approaches
from the NW. The pressure gradient between these two features will
continue to produce SSW winds 10-15 kt (with some gusts to 20 kt)
early this morning, then winds become SW 10-15 kt late this morning
into this afternoon ahead of the fropa. Seas 2-4 ft; waves 1-2 ft.
The cold front sweeps across the waters this evening and tonight, as
high pressure builds NNW of the region. Post-frontal SCA conditions
(NE winds 15-25 kt w/ gusts up to 30 kt) appear likely starting
around or just after midnight tonight north and closer to 8 am Sat
south, then lasting thru Sat into Sat night or Sunday. Seas build to
4-7 ft Saturday aftn into Sunday, with waves of 2-4 ft on the Bay
(up to 5 ft mouth of the Bay). Winds will be slow to diminish for
much of the waters Saturday night into Sunday (slowest mouth of the
Bay, Currituck Sound and southern coastal waters which remain
elevated into Sunday aftn). Will issue SCAs this morning to account
for the coming NE surge and building waves/seas. Most SCAs (save the
middle Bay) last into Sunday. A further extension in time of SCAs
will likely be needed for the coastal waters as seas will be slow to
subside until early Monday morning. NE winds lessen to around 10 kt
Monday morning before becoming SE late in the day, then SW Monday
night into Tuesday. We'll then wait to see what, if anything, a
meandering low pressure system (tropical?) off the SE coast has in
store for us by Tues-Wed of next week.
