EVENING...
The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Coastal
Flood Advisory, which is in effect until 11 PM EDT this evening.
* LOCATION...Areas along the Chesapeake Bay and tidal rivers of
the Middle Peninsula.
* TIMING...During high tide late this afternoon and evening.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is expected in the
most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline
resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one
foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas.
Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks
and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that onshore winds...wave action
and/or tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along
the shore...and near tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the
possibility of road closures and minor flooding of properties. If

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Beach
Hazards Statement, which is in effect through Friday evening. A
High Rip Current Risk has also been issued. This High Rip Current
Risk is in effect through Friday evening.
* LOCATION...Outer Banks Currituck and Virginia Beach.
* TIMING...Through the day Friday.
* SURF OR RIP CURRENT RISK...Breaking waves of 3 to 4 feet will
result in rough surf conditions and a high risk of rip currents.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents...longshore currents...sneaker waves and other hazards
create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution
should be used when in or near the water.
There is a high risk of rip currents.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore...which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.
If you become caught in a rip current...relax and float. Don't
swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following
the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or
wave for help.

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will remain over the area through Friday. A weakening
cold front will pass through the middle Atlantic on Saturday, then
stall out just south of the area on Sunday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 300 PM EDT Thursday...
* NWS Surveys have now determined that there have been 9 confirmed
tornadoes from 6 different storm cells on 9/17/2018. See
https://weather.gov/akq/Sep172018_Tornadoes for details.
Generally quiet weather expected tonight into Friday with high
pressure at the surface and aloft in control. Other than an isolated
shower/storm over the Piedmont late this aftn/early this evening
owing to diurnal heating and weak lee side convergence, the
only other concern would be patchy fog again late tonight. Lows
tonight will be in the mid 60s. Highs on Friday similar to
today, with low-mid 80s.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 300 PM EDT Thursday...
Heights begin to fall Friday night as a weakening cold front
approaches from the north. The front slowly moves across the area on
Saturday. This front combined with the increasing instability just
south of the boundary will yield increasing chance for storms
especailly south of I-64 later Saturday afternoon. Do not expect
severe weather with very weak wind flow aloft less than 30kt. The
front stalls just south of the area Saturday night with wedge
building in across the north as a strong 1030mb high builds
across New England. Meanwhile, a weak distrubance moves through
the area Sunday in SW flow aloft. This will allow for
additional showers through the day Sunday. Plenty of moisture
just to the north of the area associated with the 850mb front
and isentropic lift. If this moisture sags southward in
subsequent runs will need to raise PoPs Sunday north of I-64.
Will go with high chance pops north with lesser chances south.
Temps on Saturday will remain in the 80s, while Sunday will
range from the 70s north to lower 80s south.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 400 PM EDT Wednesday...
An unsettled period next week as the models continue to show a
frontal system stalling across the Mid Atlantic region with several
impulses of energy progged to move along it. What is different today
than yesterday is that the data suggests the boundary sags south of
the local area Sunday through Tuesday resulting in a moist NE flow
and insitu-wedge scenario. Thus, thunder has been taken out of the
forecast for those periods. The boundary returns north as a warm
front Tues and Wed allowing thunder chcs to return. Upshot will be
to keep chc pops each period under pt to mstly cldy skies for now.
Highs Sun/Mon in the mid 70s NW to lwr 80s SE. Highs Tues/Wed upr
70s to mid 80s. Lows in the 60s to near 70 SE.

.AVIATION /19Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 200 PM EDT Thursday...
Some MVFR cigs mainly closer to the ocean due to onshore easterly
flow. Expect this to mix out to VFR this afternoon, however
MVFR conditions expected to return overnight potentially at all
terminals. Cannot rule out IFR vsbys due to fog especailly later
tonight.
Outlook...Showers and storms return on Saturday in advance of a cold
front. Localized MVFR conditions possible. MVFR or even IFR
condtions possible Sunday as the front settles just south of the
area and NE flow brings low level moisture into the area along with
some showers. Best chance of this would be at RIC and SBY.

As of 220 AM EDT Thursday...
Sfc hi pres tracking slowly across New England through today
will result in NE to E winds generally 10-15 kt. SCAs over the
ocean waters are for (marginal) seas of 4-5 ft. High pressure
moves offshore Thu night into Fri w/ the wind becoming SE then
S aob 15kt...w/ seas subsiding to 3-4 ft by Fri. Generally SW
winds 10-20kt Fri night into Sat. A cold front crosses the
coast later Sat aftn into Sat night w/ the wind shifting to N
then NE. Onshore flow is expected to continue Sun into early
next week as the front stalls and sfc hi pres builds N of the
local waters.

.HYDROLOGY...
As of 630 AM EDT Thursday...
Cancelled the River Flood Warning for Richmond Westham. River
Flood Warnings continue for the Appomattox River at Mattoax and
the Meherrin River at Lawrenceville. Water levels have crested
and are now falling. At Mattoax, the level has dropped slightly
below flood stage but is expected to go back above flood stage
Thu night/Fri so will keep the warning going. See FLSAKQ for

Onshore flow will slowly push departures back up over the Bay
and there is some potential for minor coastal flooding into the
eastern shore and the northern Neck along the Bay by the high
