...WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO NOON
AKST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Very cold wind chill expected. The cold wind chill will
  cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.
  Expect wind chill to range from 35 below zero to 50 below zero.

* WHERE...Deltana and Tanana Flats.

* WHEN...Midnight to noon Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Temperatures will fall and winds will
  increase through the evening.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and sustained wind
speeds of 15 mph or more will create low wind chills. Frost bite
and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken.

.DISCUSSION...

Models...They continue to develop the low that will be moving over
the Eastern Brooks Range by Wednesday morning, otherwise they are
in good agreement in the short term. Solutions continue to
initialize well at the surface, with only minor differences when
compared to the 09/06Z surface analysis. Models continue to
struggle with handling the cold air advection and low sun angle
which is producing cooling or flat diurnal trends, if the winds
don not come up. Will blend with the current database making
minor adjustments based on current temperatures, then use a
straight interpolation for the trend.

Aloft...At 500 hpa...High that was over Point Barrow yesterday
moved south, then northwest and is now over the Chukchi Sea at 538
dam. Ridging extends northwest over the Siberian Coast, and
southeast over Cook Inlet. Another ridge axis lies from Anaktuvuk
Pass over the Eastern Bering Sea. Trough continues to rotate over
the top of the ridge and lies over 160W in the Central Arctic. The
trough will continue over the ridge to the Eastern Arctic Coast
tonight with a 525 dam closed low developing over Prudhoe Bay, the
low moves south over Arctic Village by Wednesday afternoon.
Trough over the Southern Yukon Territory is digging west over the
northern Gulf of Alaska today. 500 dam closed low has moved over
Adak this morning and will continue to slowly move east to Atka,
and will move northwest tonight to 200 nm N of Adak Wed night and
early Thursday. The low over Arctic Village will move west
Wednesday night and cot off the high from ridging to the
southeast. The high over the Chukchi Sea will rotate over the
offshore waters to be 200 nm north of Prudhoe Bay by Friday
evening. At 850 hpa...Temperatures relatively flat the next couple
days, with only some weak warming in the Upper Porcupine Basin
and Eastern Brooks Range.

Surface...1036 mb high over the Beaufort Sea is 300 nm northeast
of Demarcation Point this morning. A 1042 mb high has developed
over the Yukon-Northwest Territories Border with ridging extends
west along the south slopes of the Eastern Brooks Range. Trough
continues to build west over the Arctic Plains and Coast this
morning with a 1020 mb low over Point Barrow. Leeside troughing
north of the Alaska Range building in today and Tanana Valley Jet
will persist with gusts to around 55 mph. A 964 mb low south of
Adak continues to move east to Seguam Island by Wednesday morning,
then northwest as it weakens.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Conditions improving on the coast
as winds diminish and the tight gradient over the area moves
offshore. Gap winds continue in the Eastern Brooks Range, so will
maintain the Winter Weather Advisory. Winds diminishing later this
evening with conditions improving. A little stratus over the
Northwest Coast this morning. Some higher clouds moving over the
Eastern Arctic Coast and Brooks Range as the upper level low moves
into the area tonight. No precipitation expected. Temperatures
steady over most of the area, warming a bit over the eastern
Arctic Coast.

West Coast and Western Interior...Mostly Clear, some gusty winds
to 45 mph in channeled areas. Temperatures trending slightly
cooler through Friday morning.

Central and Eastern Interior...Mostly clear, except over the far
southeast interior where some stratus is creeping in out of
Canada. Stratus should stay from Northway south. Winds continue
over some of the higher terrain so temperatures are a bit warmer
than expected. Locally wind chill to 40 below. Cold air is still
filtering in out of Canada, and expect the winds to diminish today
so temperatures will be falling significantly in some areas.
Coldest temperatures are still expected Wednesday and Thursday
morning as they fall to -30 to -40.

Coastal Hazards for days 3 and 4...None.

Extended Forecast for days 4 to 7...Models still agree on a
Chinook event this weekend that will bring warmer temperatures to
the Interior for the weekend, as well as strong gusty winds to
the Alaska Range. A blend of the current solutions with the
ensemble mean should provide a good start.
