.DISCUSSION...

Models...Solutions remain in very good agreement, and run to run
they have been very consistent in the short term and midrange.
Extended periods are starting to see some divergence as solutions
try to break down the ridge and time a shortwave moving over the
top of the ridge. 02/00Z surface solutions initialized well
against the 01/06Z surface analysis with the high over the Chukchi
Sea about 2 mb stronger, and the high over the Upper Tanana
Valley about 4 mb stronger. Dry pattern continues over the
forecast area into Tuesday before a wave moves north up the West
Coast, so for the short term will use a blend of solutions, with
the exception of temperatures which will need to be messaged a bit
for the windy/breezy areas.

Aloft...At 500 hpa...Transition to Rex block is in place and will
persist into midweek before it starts a transition to what looks
like an Omega block by the end of the week with a broad ridge
northwest to southeast over the state. The 563 dam high over the
Western Chukchi Sea this morning will drift east into the Chukchi
Sea to about 200 nm southeast of Wrangell Island by Sunday
morning, then over Point Hope by Sunday evening at 552 dam, with
ridging extending from the northeast Pacific to the New Siberian
Islands. Low that was backing to the southwest has merged with a
510 dam low 400 nm south of Amchitka with a trough extending north
over Amchitka, then northeast over Bristol Bay and the Gulf of
Alaska coast. The low will move to 400 nm south of Adak as the
trough pushes north to lie along 60N with a 542 dam low developing
over Upper Cook Inlet by Saturday morning. By Sunday morning
there is not much change in the overall pattern with the exception
of the trough weakening. At 850 hpa...Still expect temperatures
over most of the forecast area to rise about 10C by Saturday
morning as a pool of warm air over Siberia pushes east. As the
ridge continue to rotate around, cold air will start pushing back
into the state from the northeast, and the -10C isotherm will move
to lie from Point Lay to Beaver Creek by Monday morning.

Surface...Broad area of low pressure south of the Gulf of Alaska
extends west over the southern Bering Sea. Ridge of high pressure
over mainland Alaska lies from a 1040 mb high over the Chukchi Sea
southeast to a 1042 mb high over the Upper Tanana and Yukon
Valleys in the Yukon Territory. The ridging will persist as the
high over the Upper Tanana Valley builds to 1050 mb and leeside
troughing north of the Alaska range deepens. A tight pressure
gradient has developed across the Tanana Valley between Tok and
Nenana with the Tanana Valley Jet kicking in already, and winds
will increase later this evening as the gradient tightens a bit
more, then relaxes Saturday night. Over the Arctic a 1004 mb low
in the high Arctic will move southeast into the Canadian
Archipelago. As the low moves into the Archipelago, northwest flow
over the Arctic will shift east with high pressure building into
the Central Arctic. Sunday the high pressure will start drifting
back to the southwest and a low spinning out of the high Arctic
into the Canadian Archipelago will tighten up the gradient and
increase the northwest flow over the Central and Eastern Arctic.

Satellite...SPoRT LEO Nighttime Microphysics RGB at 02/0749Z
shows stratus over the Arctic Plain extending north over the
Central and Southeast Arctic and MacKenzie Bay.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Low stratus ceilings will persist
over most of the area with some flurries. Point Barrow area will
be the exception as a hole in the stratus is expected to stay over
the area for now, but do expect that they could become mostly
cloudy at times with the low stratus. Generally southwest to west
winds at 5 to 15 mph through Saturday. Slightly Warmer
temperatures.

West Coast and Western Interior...Will continue to be pretty
quiet. Generally light winds today from northern Norton Sound, and
the Middle Yukon Valley north, with northeast winds at 15 to 30
mph over southern Norton Sound, the Lower Yukon Delta, and St
Lawrence Island. Temperatures generally warming.

Central and Eastern Interior...Mostly clear conditions will
continue, but a few patches of stratus will persist over the Upper
Yukon Flats. Tanana Valley Jet winds have already picked up
around Delta Junction, and they will persist through the day at 15
to 25 mph gusting to 40 mph, then pick up a bit overnight and
gust to around 50 mph. Expect the winds to reach as far west a
Nenana with gusts to around 25 mph. Temperatures will slowly warm
through the weekend.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended Forecast for Days 4 to 7...Similar solution for the
extended periods as the ridging rotates around and builds
southeast to northwest over mainland Alaska early next week and it
looks like an Omega block is setting up later in the week.
