Aloft at 500 mb a trough continues to dig south through the
central Bering Sea while a strong ridge builds north and west over
the eastern and central interior today and Wednesday and the
northwestern interior Thursday. 850 mb temperatures are expected
to reach between 8 and 10 above over the central and eastern
interior Wednesday and Thursday and will produce surface
temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees over much of
the central and eastern interior.

A 510 DAM low over the central Bering Sea anchors a longwave
trough over the Bering Sea. The upper level low will wobble around
the central Bering Sea today and Wednesday and then move southeast
and will be absorbed by another upper level low moving north over
Bristol Bay late Thursday and Friday.

The surface reflection of the upper level low over the central
Bering Sea will continue to weaken and move south to be absorbed
by a developing low that will move rapidly north out of the
northern Gulf of Alaska over Cold Bay as a 969 mb low Thursday and
over Bristol Bay as a 975 mb low Friday. As the low moves north a
front will sweep north over the lower YK Delta Thursday night and
Friday and will bring another round of rain, mixed with snow at
higher elevations as well as gusty southeast winds over the area.
The low will slowly drift north and west over Nunivak Island as
the associated front moves inland over the western interior and
will be the focus for scattered showers.

A thermal trough will remain over the southern interior today and
wednesday and will produce gusty gap winds through the Alaska
Range Passes especially in the afternoons and evenings as
temperatures warm over the southern interior. The thermal trough
will evolve into a lee side trough as winds increase aloft and
produce a mountain wave over the northern foothills of the Alaska
Range and through the passes Thursday evening and continuing
through Friday. Gusty winds in the 15 to 30 mph range are
expected near Alaska Range passes Wednesday and Thursday however
winds are expected to increase to around 30 mph with gusts to
around 50 mph as the lee side trough enhances the mountain wave
Thursday and Friday. Winds meeting advisory criteria are possible
Thursday night and Friday.

The 12z model suite initialized well against the 12z surface
analysis and verified well against the 18z surface analysis. Model
spread is minimal in the short range but does display significant
differences on the track, position and strength of the low moving
north out of the northern Gulf of Alaska over Bristol Bay on
Friday. The track and strength of the low will impact the winds,
ceilings and precipitation forecasts for the lower YK Delta late
Thursday and Friday.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Red Flag criteria will NOT be met for Temperature in the Central
or Eastern Interior Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as temperatures
will top out around 70 degrees on Friday.

Red Flag criteria will likely be met for Minimum Relative Humidity
for many areas in the Central and Eastern interior Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday with minimum relative humidities dropping
into the 20s and 30s.

Red Flag criteria will NOT be met for Winds in the Central or
Eastern interior Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, with the exception
of the Chinook Zones 226, and 223 beginning late Thursday and
continuing through Friday. These two zones will likely also meet
the Minimum Relative Humidity criteria at the same time Friday.
Continue to monitor.

.HYDROLOGY...
Rising water levels from snowmelt will help to get river breakup
started on more rivers in the eastern Interior over the next few
days. Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid to upper 60s
Wednesday and will rise to around 70 degrees on Thursday over the
central and eastern interior. This will bring a rapid melting of
the snowpack and better chances for ice jams and high river levels
this week.
