.DISCUSSION...

Aloft, at 500 mb, a vertically stacked 510 dam low over
the Yukon Delta will track northward today and move over the
Seward Penninsula by Saturday evening and then to Kotzebue Sound
by Sunday afternoon. Southerly flow aloft over the Interior today
will become more southwesterly on Sunday then transition back to
southerly flow Monday and Tuesday. The models are in good
agreement that an upper level ridge will build over northern
Alaska for the early part of next week.

Surface...A 979 mb low currently over the Yukon Delta
will track northward and move to Norton Sound by Saturday
evening as a 993 mb low. The low will continue to move to north
and weaken and be near Kotzebue Sound by Sunday afternoon and to
Point Hope by early Monday morning as a 1010 mb low. The models
are in good agreement that a strong 971 low will move into the
the southern Bering Sea on Monday.

North Slope and Brooks Range: A northward moving front will
bring snow to the Brooks Range today. 4 to 6 inches is expected
at pass level along the Dalton Highway through Saturday
afternoon. As the front moves north on Saturday snowfall will
spread north over the Beaufort Sea Coast. The front will bring
increased winds along the coast as well resulting in blowing snow.
Winter wx advisories are out for zones 201 203 and 204 for low
visibility in blowing snow.

West Coast and Western Interior: The low moving to the north along
the coast will keep the weather unsettled for the next few days.
The low will bring periods of mixed precipitation over the
western half of the state with the best chances for snow in the
along the west coast where the airmass with be a bit cooler.
Another low moving into the southern Bering Sea will keep the
weather unsettled for the west coast into early next week.

Interior...Winds are still gusty in the Alaska range but below
warning criteria. Have cancelled 223 225 and 226 for now. Another
round of gusty winds is expected on Saturday night with wind
gusts approaching advisory levels in the Alaska Range with breezy
conditions expected again elsewhere. Isolated to scattered showers
possible across the Interior as the flow aloft becomes more
southwesterly this weekend. A ridge looks to build across the
Interior for the early part of next week resulting in a general
warming trend in temperatures with highs climbing into the 60's
for the eastern Interior.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

FIRE WEATHER...
Chinook winds will continue through Alaska Range passes and
foothills along the north side of the range and continue through
the weekend. Widespread minimum relative humidities in the 30's
percent range are expected in the central and eastern Interior,
with values falling into the 20's along for parts of the Tanana
Valley for Saturday. A warming trend is expected across the
Interior for early next week.

HYDROLOGY...Rising freezing levels and temperatures into the
50's in the eastern Interior are expected into the weekend. This
will help to ripen and melt the higher elevation snowpack and also
weaken in-place river ice. Rising water levels from snowmelt will
help to get river breakup started on more rivers in the eastern
Interior over the next few days. An even more pronounced warmup
with temperatures climbing into the 60's over the eastern Interior
will bring a rapid melting of the snowpack and better chances for
ice jams and high river levels next week.
