.DISCUSSION...

The 00z model suite initialized well against the 00z surface
analysis with the exception of strength of the high pressure
system to the north of Alaska. Model concensus initialized the
high pressure at around 1036 mb while the surface analysis
revealed a surface pressure closer to 1044 mb. Sensible weather
manifesting in stronger winds along the north slope coast where a
Winter Weather Advisory for reduced visibility in blowing snow
remains in effect for zone 204.

Aloft at 500 mb a trough extends east from a low over the Gulf of
Anadyr and extends over the Seward Peninsula. The trough
continues to move north over the western Brooks Range today and
over the North Slope coat Sunday morning. An upper level high
pressure builds north over the southern and eastern interior
through Sunday morning and continues to build into a ridge
stretching from 80 N south over Prudhoe Bay and south over the
central and eastern interior Monday. The ridge remains in place
over eastern Alaska through Tuesday week.

On the surface a tough of low pressure over the Gulf of Anadyr
continues to weaken as a ridge builds over the eastern Bering Sea
and western Alaska. The 1044 mb north along 75 north will drift
slowly south and east to be 300 nm north of Demarcation Point
Sunday morning. The high pressure will continue to move south and
east over the McKenzie Delta Monday and Tuesday.

A dry pattern will continue over northern Alaska through early
next week as seasonal to slightly above normal temperatures
continue into the middle of next week.
