The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has cancelled the Red
Flag Warning.

Relative humidity levels continue to increase and  are now above
Red Flag Criteria and are expected to remain above 25 percent tonight
and Thursday. Winds have decreased below Red Flag Criteria
and are expected to remain below criteria tonight.

.DISCUSSION...

Synopsis...Near record high temperatures south and east of
Fairbanks today and Monday. Will continue to be warm across the
interior into mid week with above normal temperatures. Eastern
Arctic Coast will be pretty warm again today with highs near 70.
Much cooler on the West Coast and Northwest Arctic Coast with
cloudy conditions and showers. Isolated to scattered showers west
of Tanana again today spreading north and northeast into the
Brooks Range and Arctic Plains. Expect some isolated thunderstorms
as well. Thermal trough in the Tanana Valley today will slowly
slide north to the Upper Yukon Flats Monday. Temperatures cool a
few degrees starting Monday, but it will still be warm between the
ranges with isolated thunderstorms and showers in the afternoons
and evenings through the week. Near Red Flag conditions possible
along the Eastern Alaska Range today and Monday.

Models...Very good continuity in solutions from run to run, and
the 22/00Z solutions continue the trend of very good agreement in
the short term. At the surface solutions initialized well once
again with very minor differences. Most solutions continue to
produce too much precipitation across the forecast area, so will
use the NAM primarily with a nudge from the SREF to increase the
Probabilities. Going to lean on the current forecast database for
continuity and just make minor adjustments with the latest
solutions.

Aloft...At 500 hpa...A 585 dam center has moved over Yakutat this
morning with the primary ridge axis extending northwest over Fort
Yukon and Deadhorse, then north over 150W into the high Arctic. A
secondary branch extends from Yakutat northwest over Nikolai and
the Seward Peninsula this Sunday morning, and 568 dam heights
extend north and west over the coasts. A 558 dam low near the
Dateline over the Central Bering Sea will move southeast to 150 nm
northwest of Dutch Harbor by Monday morning pushing the ridge to
the east with the primary axis moving over the yukon Territory.
The secondary axis will persist over the interior and will lie
from Eagle over Central to Kiana, then southwest over Gambell. A
523 dam low 250 nm north of Wrangel Island will move northeast
over the Northwest Arctic tonight with a shortwave moving across
the Arctic and over the Beaufort Sea by Monday evening. A 537 dam
low north of the New Siberian Islands will move to 300 nm north of
Wrangel Island by Tuesday afternoon, then southeast to 400 nm
north of Deadhorse by Wednesday afternoon. At 850 hpa...0C
isotherm well north of the Arctic Coast. +10C isotherm has pushed
in to just north of the Eastern Arctic Coast, and west into the
Middle Yukon Valley, and do not expect much change next 36 hours.
Temperature over Fairbanks yesterday where around +11C and will
rise to around +15C this afternoon. Temperatures to around +18C
will move over the Fortymile Country and Upper Tanana Valley
today and persist into at least Tuesday morning. Temperatures
will remain in the mid teens C through at least Wednesday from
Fairbanks east.

Surface...High pressure persists over the are with leeside thermal
troughing north of the Alaska Range. The thermal trough will drift
north Monday to the Upper Yukon Flats. Low pressure remains over
the Central and Southeast Bering Sea. A 984 mb low will move to
the Dateline 400 nm north of Wrangel Island this morning, then
northeast. The associated weather front is moving northeast across
the Chukchi Sea, and will move across the Arctic remaining just
offshore this afternoon and evening, and will be in the Beaufort
Sea Monday morning. A 1022 mb high will develop over Point Barrow
Monday morning and drift east to MacKenzie Bay by Tuesday morning
as a 995 mb low moves out of Siberia to 200 nm north of Wrangel
Island by Tuesday morning at 998 mb with a front moving to the
Western Chukchi Sea, then northeast across the Arctic. A 1010 mb
low in the Central Bering Sea near the Dateline will move
southeast to Sand Point at 1009 mb by Monday morning and persist
in the area through Tuesday morning.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Very warm on the Eastern Arctic
Coast and in the Eastern Brooks Range again today, with cooling
temperatures through midweek. Highs around 70 from Nuiqsut east
as the south to southwest flow holds. Some showers and a chance
of thunderstorms in the Western Brooks Range and Western Plains
today, spreading to the Central and Eastern Brooks Range and the
Eastern Plains and Eastern Arctic Coast later today. Winds south
to southwest over most of the area at 5 to 15 mph.

West Coast and Western Interior...Low in the southeast Bering Sea
will continue to move to the Western Alaska Peninsula spreading
lower clouds and some showers north over the coastal areas to the
Bering Strait. Isolated to scattered showers developing in the
afternoons and evenings inland with a chance of thunderstorms. No
significant precipitation is expected. Temperatures start to
cooling a few degrees tonight as the warmer air aloft pulls back
to the east a bit. Winds generally light inland with southeast to
southwest winds 5 to 15 mph along the coast.

Central and Eastern Interior...Near record high temperatures south
and east of Fairbanks today and Monday. Temperatures will start
cooling late Monday after another very warm day. Mostly sunny
conditions continue. A chance of showers west of Tanana today,
then increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms through the
week in the interior as the Thermal Trough drifts north to the
Upper Yukon Flats. Near Red Flag Conditions from Delta Junction
southeast today and Monday with some drying, and winds 10 to 15
mph in the afternoon and evening hours. The remainder of the area
will have winds to 10 mph.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.Fire Weather...Relative Humidity values in the Upper Tanana
Valley will be falling to 20 to 25 percent in a few locations,
with winds around 10 mph, so Near Red Flag Conditions during the
late afternoon today and again Monday. Warm and dry conditions
will continue into at least midweek in the Interior with
increasing chances of isolated afternoon and evening showers and
thunderstorms. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms with
cooler temperatures will continue west of Tanana. For the latest

.Hydrology...Most rivers slowly falling or steady, but with very
warm temperatures and high freezing levels across the area,
glacially feed rivers, Nabesna River near Northway and Tanana
River near Tetlin, and streams have already started to rise. For

Extended Forecast for day 4 to 7...Solutions diverge some, but
are in agreement with keeping ridging aloft over the Interior with
cold air over the Arctic pushing south to the Brooks Range. Thermal
trough will lie across the interior, with afternoon thunderstorms
and rainshowers. Ridging aloft will build back north over the
Northwest Arctic Coast Late in the week and slide east bringing
another warm spell to most of the forecast area. Troughing over
the southeast Bering Sea will continue to bring clouds and showers
to coastal areas south of the Bering Strait.
