A 1030 mb area of high pressure north of Demarcation Point will 
persist over the Arctic Ocean but gradually weaken through Sunday.
A trough of low pressure on the north side of the Brooks Range
will strengthen on Saturday and persist through the weekend. Low 
pressure and an associated weather front over the Bering Sea will 
move north into Chukchi Sea on Sunday and weaken through Monday.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.DISCUSSION...
A pattern change is underway across northern Alaska and will
bring an end to the recent sunny and pleasant fall weather. High
pressure over the Interior and Arctic will pushed into Canada as
a weather front currently impacting the Bering Sea coast pushes
north and east. Rain and winds from 25 to 35 mph along the west
coast will diminish some over the weekend as the front moves
inland and weakens. Sunshine in the Interior and Brooks Range will
give way to clouds and some showers by Sunday.

Models initialize well and show similar solutions through Monday.
They are not as aggressive at breaking down the ridge once it
shifts east, extending from the high Arctic to the Mackenzie Delta
and Yukon Territory. The main result is the backing off on the
eastward and northern extent of the precipitation, especially from
the eastern Arctic south to the Yukon Flats. Models do diverge
beginning Tuesday, but the are eluding to the potential for a
strong system moving into the northwest Arctic coast mid-week,
which we will continue to monitor.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Mostly clear conditions through Saturday. Temperatures tonight in
the 30's with the colder valley locations dropping into the 20's,
especially toward the Alcan Border. Clouds and some showers
spreading east Saturday night and Sunday with slightly cooler
daytime temperatures and warmer overnight temperatures. Most of
the shower activity will remain south of the Brooks Range through
Monday.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Rain is falling from the Seward Peninsula south to the Yukon
Delta. This will push into the western Interior through Saturday
night. Winds 25 to 35 mph along the west coast and over the marine
waters will gradually diminish on Saturday. Unsettled and showery
conditions will persist into Monday.

North Slope...
Areas of fog will persist along the Arctic coast, with dense fog
reforming from Utqiagvik eastward tonight. A trough will continue
to develop on the north side of the Brooks Range into Saturday.
The combination of this trough and high pressure over the Arctic
Ocean will increase east winds from 20 to 35 kts, with the
strongest winds offshore Barter Island on Saturday.
