A 970 mb low 300 nm N of Banks Island will move E with a trough 
persisting SW across the Arctic into Tue morning. The remnants of
Typhoon Papiroon which is currently 100 nm west of Nunivak Island
will continue to slowly drift to the north and will be located
over Norton Sound as a 991 mb low Tuesday morning. High pressure 
will push SE over the Western Chukchi Sea Sun.

merge with a low that will move northward into the southern 
Bering from the north Pacific Wednesday night. The combined low 
will move to the east reaching St Paul Island by Thursday 
afternoon, where it will persist into Friday before moving into 
Bristol Bay on Saturday.

.DISCUSSION...

Synopsis...Active across the area the next few days with
potential for a little bit of everything weather across the
forecast area from High Surf Advisories to Red Flag Warnings, to
sunshine and warm, to snow and cold, to thunderstorms and heavy
rain, to windy.

Models...Run to run continuity is good in the short term, and
they initialized well at the surface against the 07/18Z analysis.
The extended periods on the other hand leave a lot to be desired,
so will be leaning almost exclusively on the Ensemble mean beyond
72 hours. Precipitation patterns are in agreement for the most
part, with the ECMWF still spreading it out too much, so will
continue to use a blend excluding the ECMWF. Solutions continue to
indicate the 0C isotherm will dive south over the Arctic Coast
from Point Hope to Nuiqsut tonight, then gets pushed back north
Monday mid day. Convective indicies continue to be unimpressive
through the weekend, but expect there will be some very isolated
strikes. Probabilistic Surge Guidance continues to show elevated
sea heights as the Extra Tropical remains of Prapiroon move to
Bethel Monday morning.

Aloft...At 500 hpa...A 500 dam low 600 nm north of Demarcation
Point today will move to 300 nm north of Banks Island by Sunday
evening, then east into the Canadian Archipelago Monday morning.
Ridging persists over most of the state with a 571 dam high over
the Gulf of Alaska and ridging extending northwest over the Seward
Peninsula, and north-northeast over Eagle. A broad area of lower
heights remains over the Bering Sea with a 540 dam center 250 nm
south-southwest of St Matthew Island moving northeast to be over
Nunivak Island Sunday morning at 532 dam. The ridge axis over the
Seward Peninsula will rotate northeast tonight to lie from
Yakutat to Cape Lisburne, and by Monday morning will lie from
Dawson YT to Point Lay as the low over Nunivak Island move over
Bethel at 529 dam. A weak shortwave will move through the flow
over the ridge tonight with a stronger shortwave spinning up the
west coast. At 850 hpa...Most of the state well above 0C with a
large area above +10C this afternoon. Low over the high Arctic
has pushed the 0C isotherm to Point Barrow this afternoon and will
continue to push it south to lie from Nuiqsut to Point Hope by
Sunday morning. 0C isotherm will move back north of Point Barrow
Tuesday. Monday +10C temperatures will persist south of the
Brooks Range and east of Fairbanks.

Surface...Stacked lows over the Arctic and Bering Sea. 968 mb low
600 nm north of Demarcation Point will move east with troughing
persisting southwest across the Arctic into Tuesday morning, then
trough moves east. 986 mb Low in the Bering Sea, remnants of
Prapiroon, will move to Bethel by Monday morning at 986 mb, with
a 992 mb low developing over the eastern Seward Peninsula tonight,
and troughing extending east along the south slopes of the Brooks
Range by Sunday morning. A decaying occluded front has moved to
St Lawrence Island and over the southwest mainland coast and will
continue to decay as it pushes into the ridging. Several more
waves will be spinning north around the low bringing significant
moisture into the West Coast and Western Interior tonight through
midweek. Weak high pressure will persist south and east of
Livengood, with a leeside trough developing north of the Alaska
Range as the low approaches, and high pressure over Southcentral
and the Copper River Basin.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Brooks Range will be pretty nice
this evening with rain moving to the Western Range tonight.
Eastern Range clouding up on Sunday with rain developing. Along
the Arctic Coast a weather front has moved over Point Barrow
bringing a mix of rain and snow along with fog to the area that
will turn to mainly snow later this evening. Mixed rain and snow
will continue to spread south with it stopping along a line from
Nuiqsut to Point Hope tonight. The front will merge with the
system spreading north over the Plains with precipitation turning
to all rain. Wind direction will be highly variable by location to
the fronts moving into the area with wind speeds 10 to 20 mph for
most areas. Colder temperatures tonight across the area, with
below freezing temperatures north of the line from Nuiqsut to
Point Hope. Temperatures moderating Sunday. No significant snow
accumulation is expected.

West Coast and Western Interior...Lots of rain coming to the area
tonight and it is already spreading north into the lower Yukon
Delta. Rain will spread over Norton Sound by midnight, then north
to the Upper Kobuk and east into the Middle Yukon Valley
overnight, and into the Chukchi Sea Sunday during the day.
Rainfall amounts will range up to 1.50 inches with the heaviest
rainfall on St Lawrence Island, the Lower Yukon Delta around
Marshall, the Upper Kobuk near Ambler, and the mountains of
interior Seward Peninsula. Locally streams may rise to bankfull,
so use caution if attempting to cross them. Temperatures cooling
as cloudy and rainy conditions prevail.

Central and Eastern Interior...Rain spreading into the Central
and Eastern areas, mainly west and north of Fairbanks by noon
Sunday with some showers around Fairbanks to Salcha. Rainfall less
than a 0.10 inch around Fairbanks, with up to 0.75 inch west of
Manley Hot Springs, and north of the Yukon River. Winds Southwest
to south over most of the area at 5 to 15 mph, the exception will
be near the Alaska Range and around Delta Junction where winds
will kick up from the south gusting to around 55 mph with a few
gusts to 60 mph around Healy. Winds will remain strong and gusty
near the Range into Tuesday before letting up. With the southwest
flow strong winds expected from Dot Lake to Tanacross as well
with gusts around 35 mph. High temperatures will cool into the
60s as clouds and showers remain in the area into Tuesday. t

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.FIRE WEATHER...Wetting rains expected to the west of Fairbanks
will keep things generally quiet, and help knock down the existing
fires. In the Eastern Interior showers Sunday will bring a good
chance of wetting rains to most areas north of Delta Junction.
Relative Humidity values generally above 30 percent across the
area with just a pocket of drier conditions in the Upper Yukon
Flats this evening. Generally southwest to west winds 10 to 15
mph with locally stronger winds to 25 mph over higher elevations.
Around Delta Junction and near the Alaska Range Passes strong
gusty winds to 55 mph can be expected. Relative Humidity recovery
will remain good with most areas recovering above 70 percent
tonight, and above 80 percent through midweek. No thunderstorm
activity expected, but potential for a rogue strike in the area.
In the Upper Tanana Valley significant precipitation is not
expected as they will be in the rain shadow. For the latest

.HYDROLOGY...Rivers continue a slow trend downward, but remain
elevated above normal. No significant issues currently or
expected through the weekend. Some moderate to heavy rain expected
on the West Coast and in the Western Interior tonight and Sunday,
but not enough to elevate rivers and streams significantly. For

Extended forecast for days 4 to 7...Models are very confused with
little agreement across the forecast area. They do lean toward the
seasonal turn to westerlies aloft by the end of the forecast
periods signaling a transition to the mid/late summer pattern
with less convection and more cloudy/rainy conditions.

...Strong Gusty Winds along the Alaska Highway...

Southwest winds gusting to around 35 mph from Dot Lake to
Tanacross along the Alaska Highway Saturday night and Sunday.

A strong low pressure system will move into southwest Alaska with
strong south to southwest winds developing across the Alaska
Range and near passes. The strong winds will persist into Tuesday
morning before diminishing.

Residents should secure loose objects that may be blown around by
the strong winds.
