Continue to see areas of fog across the northern CWA - mainly
light fog but some locations are seeing fairly thick fog based on
wed cams. Made some changes to the mention of fog this morning and
through the day based on current trends. Otherwise, expecting
mostly cloudy skies today with cool temperatures. Forecast highs
may be a touch too warm as we see low level cold air advection and
northeast winds today - may need to lower highs a couple degrees
in places.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)

Weak short wave trough out west early this morning will be
moving east through the day along with a cold front descending south
from the north. This was bringing some weak returns on radar with
possibly some flurries making it to the ground. Thus, added in some
isold flurries into this afternoon and evening. Satellite, surface
obs, and webcams also showed stratus across much of the northeast
this morning along with some fog, locally dense. Thus, added fog in
earlier for this morning. Otherwise, caa low clouds from the north
will push in through the day with mostly cloudy skies expected.
Highs will be mostly in the mid 20s to the mid 30s. The models then
show waa clouds moving in from the west tonight along with snow
developing from west to east and maybe reaching to the James Valley
by Wednesday morning.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Monday)

Models have come into great agreement now with the significant
surface low pressure area affecting the region Wednesday into
Friday. A surface low pressure area will be in southeast
Colorado/southwest Kansas Wednesday evening. The surface low will
then lift northeast across northeast Nebraska and into Wisconsin on
Friday morning. The initial strong waa surge of snowfall will begin
out west later tonight moving east through Wednesday and Wednesday
night. This could produce 4 to 6 inches of snowfall. Not much wind
is expected with this first surge of snowfall. Otherwise, the main
lift with the upper low pressure area will come Thursday and
Thursday night. Good upper divergence/deformation along with a good
waa/trowal will be affecting most of our cwa for Thursday into
Friday morning before it all winds down into Friday afternoon.
Significant snowfall amounts are possible by the ending of the storm
to maybe a foot or so. Along with the snowfall will be the
increasing winds as the surface pressure gradient tightens up and
caa mixing occurs. Could have some blizzard conditions on Thursday
and Thursday night. Therefore, have issued a Winter Storm Watch for
the entire area from Wednesday through Thursday night.

Very cold air will move in behind the exiting system for Friday and
Saturday. With the snow cover, lows Friday night will be below zero
across the cwa and maybe teens below zero in the east. Somewhat
warmer air will return for Sunday and Monday on southwest winds in
advance of the a clipper system dropping in from Canada. Highs will
be in the 20s and lower 30s for both days. It is expected to be dry
from Saturday through Monday with maybe some stronger winds
developing on Monday.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for west central Minnesota,
central South Dakota, north central South Dakota and northeast
South Dakota.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Light snow will be developing West River tonight and spreading east
to the James River by Wednesday morning with less than an inch
accumulation expected.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.

A significant surface low pressure area will be moving across the
Central Plains Wednesday through Friday bringing widespread snowfall
to our area. The snowfall could be heavy with 6 inches to over a foot
of snowfall accumulation possible. Strong north winds will also
develop on Thursday and Thursday night bringing widespread blowing
snow with blizzard conditions possible.

Spotter activation will likely be needed. Weather spotters are
encouraged to submit reports to the National Weather Service in
