...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM FRIDAY TO
5 PM MST SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Snow expected. Plan on slippery road conditions. In 
  addition, areas of poor visibility are expected. Total snow 
  accumulations of 2 to 4 inches expected in the valleys, with 
  amounts up to 16 inches expected in the mountains.

* WHERE...Beaverhead.

* WHEN...From 5 AM Friday to 5 PM MST Saturday. The heaviest 
  snow is expected Friday night through Saturday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will 
  cause areas of blowing and drifting snow in the mountains.

...Update to Aviation...

.SYNOPSIS...

Moist Pacific air will interact with frigid temperatures to
produce a prolonged period of snow across much of the forecast
area through Saturday. Light snow will begin tonight and continue
Thursday and Friday. Snowfall rates increase on Friday into
Saturday. Temperatures will remain near seasonal averages for
southwest Montana, and much colder than average over the North-
central Plains.

.DISCUSSION...

Tonight through Thursday...Pacific moisture arriving on a
strengthening northwest flow aloft marks the beginning of a
prolonged and widespread snow event. Observations indicate
increasing coverage of mountain snow already underway. Driving
conditions will gradually deteriorate tonight for travel over
mountain passes across central MT. Winter storm warnings go into
effect early Thursday as light snow begins to spread onto the
North central plains. Initial snowfall rates over North central MT
will be rather light through the day Thursday, while occasionaly
moderate mountain snowfall continues. Temperatures remain bitter
cold over North-central Montana, but near seasonal averages for
the southwest. Temperature profiles near the stationary frontal
boundary will influence snow ratios, and therefore storm total
snow. Higher snow ratios will be associated with the colder air,
and lower snow ratios over far southwest Montana through the
event.

Thursday night and Friday...Snowfall continues and becomes more
widespread Thursday night into early Friday associated with warm
advection aloft over a persistent but shallow upslope flow across
North-central Montana. Most models present a lull, or at least
less widespread coverage of snow by Friday afternoon associated
with subtle shortwave ridging aloft. Surface pressures rise with a
reinforcing cold front at the surface during this time.  PN

Friday night through Wednesday...An area of low pressure will move
southeastward through the region Friday night through Saturday.
Snow, heavy at times will develop Friday night and continue through
Saturday along a line from East Glacier Park to Bozeman. Rain will
change to snow on Saturday morning in the valleys around Dillon.
Expect very cold air to move into the region by Sunday morning with
skies clearing out. Afternoon highs on Sunday might only be in the
teens below zero on the Havre area. However, the very cold air is
expected to slowly move out Mon through Tue. A northwesterly flow
aloft on Tue will allow for a weak upper level disturbance to move
through producing a few snow showers. By Wednesday, expect drier

A moist west to northwesterly flow aloft will continue overnight
through late Thursday afternoon across the region. The moist air is
being lifted over an Arctic airmass, creating areas of light snow in
Central and North Central Montana for a mix of VFR/MVFR/IFR
conditions. Warmer air will remain over Southwest Montana for mainly
VFR conditions with patchy light snow producing local IFR/MVFR
conditions at times. Forecast trend for an increasingly widespread
snow event with deteriorating flight conditions over the next 18 to
