Areas affected...Northwest Kansas

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 271...

Valid 270647Z - 270815Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 271
continues.

SUMMARY...Strong/locally severe storms -- developing in repeated
bands -- continue moving rapidly east across northwest Kansas,
through WW 271, where severe risk continues.

DISCUSSION...Latest surface analysis depicts a low in eastern CO
with a warm/stationary front extending eastward across the middle
section of KS. Several bands of storms continue moving out of
eastern CO into northwest KS, just north of the low/front, with
repeated development occurring and continuing to track across some
of the same areas.

The most substantial area of storms from a radar perspective remains
the well-organized/small-scale bow moving across Graham County KS,
and adjacent parts of southern Norton and northern Trego Counties.
Damaging winds remain a risk with this storm, along with potential
for hail.

Meanwhile, risk for locally damaging winds and large hail -- and
possibly a brief tornado -- continues with a trailing cluster of
storms crossing Gove County at this time, where a funnel cloud was
recently reported.

With a 45 kt southerly low-level jet indicated by area VWP data
providing favorable low-level ascending inflow, and a front aligned
roughly parallel to the mean flow/storm motion, it would appear that
the environment is favorable for this convection to continue
redeveloping and spreading east, along with continued severe risk.
Initial storms -- including the lead/bowing band of convection --
will begin to move into newly issued WW 273 over the next hour.
