.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Saturday)
Issued at 228 PM CST Fri Dec 29 2017

A rather weak system was moving across the Plains with the
potential to bring some very light precipitation to portions of
the Ozarks. Synoptic models show nearly no precipitation however,
short range and meso models have continued to indicate at least
some very light precipitation. With this in mind, have indicated
some light precipitation in the forecast for this afternoon and
evening.

With temperatures above freezing currently, this precipitation
should fall as very light drizzle, however as temperatures fall,
this may become freezing drizzle or flurries. The depth of the
moisture and only spotty indications for cloud ice lean the
precipitation type towards drizzle/freezing drizzle but where
cloud ice does show up, flurries would occur.

Temperatures will be on the downward trend tonight and through
the day Saturday. Overnight low tonight will fall into the middle
20s south to middle teens north. These temperatures will rise
very little during the day Saturday as cold air advection will be
occurring in earnest through the day.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday Night through Friday)
Issued at 228 PM CST Fri Dec 29 2017

A wind chill advisory has been issued from 06z to 18z Saturday. With
strong cold air advection ongoing and a tightening surface gradient,
breezy winds will combine with temperatures falling into the single
digits Saturday night to allow wind chills to fall to
-10 to -15F for areas generally along and north of I-44 after
midnight Saturday through Sunday morning.

The cold air will continue to filter into the region New Years Eve
through Tuesday as increasingly gusty winds and temperatures fall
into the zero to -8 degree range both Sunday and Monday night,
dropping wind chills in the -10 to -25 degree range. This period
will most certainly require wind chill advisories but have held off
for now on those headlines. It may even be possible that some areas
of central Missouri reach wind chill warning criteria.

The remainder of the week, while warmer than Sunday through
Tuesday, will remain bitterly cold for this time of year.

Models do not have any significant precipitation chances for next
week at this time.

&&

.AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Saturday afternoon)
Issued at 1140 AM CST Fri Dec 29 2017

A large area of MVFR ceilings were noted on satellite and surface
obs from western Missouri back through Kansas, and for the most
part, the terminals will see MVFR ceilings through the forecast
period, with perhaps some short term trend into VFR from now through
00Z. Otherwise, an arctic cold front will move through the region
late tonight. There could be a brief period of light freezing
drizzle ahead of the front. Models are then showing some post
frontal IFR ceilings late tonight into early Saturday morning.
