* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...1 to 3 inches.

* TIMING...Tonight through Thursday morning.

* IMPACTS...The snowfall will create slippery and snow covered

  visibility, and isolated brief power outages.

.SYNOPSIS...
Brief warm up today as a developing coastal low brings snow and
cold later tonight through Wednesday. High pressure builds
behind the front, and a weak system approaching for the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 130 AM Monday...Forecast remains on track and no changes
needed at this time.

As of 720 PM Sunday...no significant changes necessary.

As of 300 PM Sunday...

High pressure remains in control today with plenty of sunshine
but still relatively chilly temps. Clouds should slowly be on
the increase tonight into Monday as a low pressure system moves
into the lower Ohio River Valley. POPs will also be on the
increase Monday afternoon as this low gets closer. It actually
will merge with a southern stream low coming out of the Gulf
late in the period. Until that occurs, most of the lowlands
should see a warming and drying downslope flow with a slight
chance to chance of rain. Have some higher POPs across the far
west, outside of the typical downslope effect area.

Cold air damming across the eastern slopes should result in
snow instead of rain, but precip starting fairly late in the day
should not accumulate until after the end of the current near
term period.

Used a bias-correct consensus blend for low tonight, with temps
at or just above where they were last night. Blended toward the
ECMWF MOS for high Monday, which was warmer than most other
guidance in the downslope region while preserving cooler temps
across the eastern slopes.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 345 AM Monday...

With the low pressure way northeast, the area will continue to be in
persistent northwest to north flow. Models depict moisture coming
from Lake Michigan and Lake Erie advecting within the dendrite zone
into our area. Therefore, expect a classic upslope event
Tuesday night and Wednesday. The NAM predicts up to 4 inches of
snow due to upslope alone will be possible over the northeast
mountains. The SREF probabilities for snow indicate good
confidence that snow accumulations from 4 to 6 inches will fall
across the northeast mountains Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Across the lowlands, light snow accumulations are expected.

Models indicate H850 temperatures will reach minus 16C by 06Z
Wednesday. While normal temperatures mainly in the 30s is expected
Tuesday night, it will be well below normal High temperatures in the
30s, and well below normal Wednesday night with values in the
teens lowlands, ranging into the single digits higher
elevations.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 345 AM Monday...

By Thursday, a broad high pressure builds behind the front to
provide dry weather conditions through the end of the week. There
will be a warming trend toward the end of the week into the weekend.

.AVIATION /08Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 135 AM Sunday...

VFR conditions with light surface winds overnight. Intense
system tracks up the East Coast Monday night. This system will
bring rain and snow to the region. MVFR to IFR conditions will
be possible from 00Z to 06Z Tuesday...especially in the
mountains. Low confidence in the forecast of timing for the
onset of rain and snow at this time, but conditions will
likely start to deteriorate Monday night and VLIFR conditions
will be possibility with moderate to heavy snowfall in the
mountains.
