The wind chill advisory will expire at 8 AM this morning as
temperatures are rising. Even so, wind chills will remain below
zero for a couple of hours, so precautions should be taken if

.SYNOPSIS...
Upslope snow showers northeast mountains today. High pressure
for the end of work week. Warmer next weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 315 AM Thursday...

A sfc low pressure system exits east off shore the Virginia coast
this morning. Wrap around PCPN will end for the most part of the
area. However, northwest flow will produce upslope snow over the
northeast mountains through this evening.

Deep northwest flow will bring a much colder air over the area
today. Max temperatures will stay at or below freezing with PCPN
gradually ending by late morning.

A sfc high pressure over the central plains moves east over the OH
Valley and into WV tonight.

Went with a blend of models for temperatures through the period.
Lows tonight will be enhanced by radiational cooling under clear
skies ranging from the teens lowlands to the single digits higher
elevations.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
As of 400 AM Thursday...

High pressure slides to our SE on Friday bringing warm
southwesterly flow back into the region. This will moderate
temps nicely on Friday as highs climb back up into the 40s for
most of the region and we will remain dry through the day. A
warm front pushes northward into our area Saturday. Overrunning
rain is expected, especially along the Ohio Valley and into
Central and Northern West Virginia. where forecast soundings
show the column a bit more saturated. Meanwhile, further south
and east the forecast sounding for Beckley is showing very dry
air in the midlevels and a shallow saturated layer from 5K feet
and below. This sounding is more indicative of drizzle so I have
decided to keep PoP at slight to low chance through the period.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 415 AM Thursday...

Cold front quickly passes the region late Sunday/Sunday night.
This will give the whole area a decent shot at some rain showers
and puts a slight damper on the well above average temperatures,
however highs on Monday are still looking to be above average
for this time of year. Guidance is in fairly good agreement with
a sharp trough diving down mid week...bringing the threat for
rain and then possibly some upslope snow showers in NW flow
Tuesday into Wednesday. However, the Euro has a much more
robust southern stream wave that phases with the northern stream
energy, while the GFS keeps these two systems separate for now.
The Euro solution is much wetter and could reach advisory level
snowfall. However, this is still six days out so we will see
how this unfolds over the next few days and for now we will go
with the drier solution as this is the first run that the Euro
has shown this.

.AVIATION /09Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 1225 AM Thursday...

Radar and sfc observations show IFR ceilings and LIFR
visibilities under moderate rain across the area. On the western
side, PCPN transitioned already to snow at HTS and PKB. However,
radar images show the back edge of PCPN is about to pass these
sites putting an end to the snow. Low level IFR ceilings will
linger after the PCPN moves east.

Snow will become more upslope-type and scattered Thursday.
Expect passing MVFR to possibly IFR in the heaviest snow
showers.

Winds will also pick up out of the NW overnight.
