* TIMING...Periods of rain, rain mixed with snow and light to
  occasionally moderate snow will be possible across the valleys
  today.  

* Snow Accumulation...1 to 4 inches with up to 6 inches possible 
  in the northern portion of the Jackson Valley. 

* Wind and Visibility...South to southwest wind of 15 to 30 mph 
  gusting 35 mph causing blowing and drifting snow with 
  visibility below a half mile at times. 

* MAIN IMPACT...Snow will produce slick, snow packed and icy 
  roads making travel difficult. Poor visibility will also make 
  travel difficult including Teton and Togwotee Passes. 

* OTHER IMPACTS...Outdoor recreation in the back country may be 
  very hazardous with poor visibility and heavy snowfall.

.SHORT TERM...Today through Friday night

Imagery showing deep upper low pressure moving into Quebec with the
associated trof across the ern CONUS. The relatively flat flow
across the western CONUS contains a strong jet with a few embedded
upstream jet streaks...including one currently moving through
western WY. The SFC has general high P across the Great Basin and
Intermountain West with lower P to the north and east and a cold
front still across the northeast corner of WY.

Today, the upper flow continues NW to WNW...with a modest moisture
flow from the PAC NW also continuing to flow into western WY.
Greatest forcing will be due to the proximity to a persistent and
near linear jet flowing over/near the FA combined with the terrain
out west. Light to moderate snowfall this morning, persisting across
west central and northwestern WY through today. A Winter Weather
Advisory (WWA) continues for west central and northwestern WY
through this afternoon. Expecting 24hr snowfall totals of 5 to 12
inches over the mountains and about half that in the valleys for the
areas under the Advisory. In addition, while winds will continue
gusty out of the southwest across much of the FA, including isolated
high wind gusts over the Wind Corridor, the better high wind set-up
will continue over the Cody Foothills from this morning periodically
through tonight as strong winds aloft combine with good low level
temperature and omega gradients near/in the Foothills and building
mountain waves aloft. A High Wind Warning for the Cody Foothills
continues for this time period and location.

Tonight through Friday: The HWW will still be ongoing for the Cody
Foothills while the current WWA ends during a lull in the action.
However, there seems to be enough cause at this time to issue a
Winter Storm Warning beginning after midnight tonight/very early
Thursday morning that will take into account the arrival of both a
strong embedded jet streak and increased EPAC moisture across west
central/northwest WY. Heaviest snowfall should arrive later Thursday
morning with the arrival of a rather strong jet streak. Then, after
an afternoon lull greater moisture will move into the area Thursday
night as a weak ridge translates eastward further flattening the
upper flow but opening the door back to the EPAC. A fleet embedded
SW will then race across the FA by Friday afternoon...enhancing
snowfall rates one more time before the wave and associated front
clear the area Friday evening...quickly turning off the
precipitation  spigot. A Winter Storm Watch continue for zones 12
and 13 with Advisories likely to fill in areas around this possible
Warning through the day Friday. There may be periods, especially in
the western valleys, where rain mixes with snow...or even just
rains...periodically from Thursday afternoon onward as H7 temps rise
to -2 to -3 deg C into Friday afternoon before falling once again.
It'll be close as far as snowfall and may or may not reach warning
levels in the valleys depending length of time to changeover (or
not). Did not completely force snow into the grids at this time for
the western valleys and hopefully another day of forecast data will
help to clarify. If the lowest levels looked just slightly drier I
might be inclined to go with all, albeit wet, snow. Otherwise, total
snowfall for the Teton and Gros Ventre mountains through the day on
Friday should range from 10 to 20 inches for most locations...
possibly more.

.LONG TERM...Saturday through Wednesday

In wake of a shortwave and cold front Friday night, expect mainly
dry conditions and cooler, but seasonal temperatures Saturday. A
quick moving shortwave trough in the westerly flow across the
Northern Rockies will bring a return to snowfall across far
west/northwest Wyoming Saturday night into Sunday with some
precipitation spilling east of the Divide late Sunday into Sunday
night. The 00Z suite of guidance has trended farther south with
the Canadian cold front late Sunday/Sunday night east of the
Divide than over the past couple of nights with the GFS and
Canadian models more aggressive with the precip, but still on the
light side east of the Divide. Models have also trended tonight
with more ridging building into the area Monday into Tuesday with
mainly dry conditions and above average temperatures. Then the
models bring a shortwave trough off the Pacific, and across the
Northern/Central Rockies Tuesday night and Wednesday. Timing and
strength of this system has varied over the past several runs, and
will keep slight pops mainly confined to the west for now.

.AVIATION.../18Z ISSUANCE/

WEST OF THE DIVIDE...KBPI/KJAC/KPNA/KRKS ROUTES

Periods of snow for the Western mountains through tonight into
tomorrow morning. Expect snow at the KJAC airport through tonight
along with the gusty wind. MVFR to IFR conditions will be common
with mountains obscured. Mainly VFR conditions prodominate elsewhere
although local mountain obscurations may occur with snow showers
near KBPI and KPNA. A gusty wind will occur at KRKS airport after
16Z until 02Z tonight and again after 16Z Thursday.

EAST OF THE DIVIDE...KCOD/KCPR/KLND/KRIW/KWRL ROUTES

VFR conditions will prevail at the terminal sites through the
period. A gusty wind will occur at KCPR through tonight morning.
KCOD will see a gusty wind at times through 02Z, then less wind.
Wind shear may occur near KLND after 21Z today.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Fire Danger low to moderate (east of the Divide) across the forecast
area through the week as continued good existing or increasing snow
cover, or recent wetting precipitation/ground cover, combines with
continued seasonal to below seasonal temperatures. Gusty west to
southwest winds can be expected to continue across much of the
region through the week. Southwest winds will be gusty for many
locations today. Smoke dispersion will be fair to very good across
most of the forecast area each afternoon through at least Friday.
