The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a High Wind
Warning, which is in effect until noon MST today. 

* TIMING...Strong southwest wind will continue across the south
  side of Casper, while lighter winds across much of Natrona
  County early this morning are expected to increase significantly
  by around sunrise. Peak winds are expected to occur between 3 AM
  and 9 AM, but remain windy for much of the day. 

* WINDS...Southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts around 50 mph. However
  the south side of Casper will see southwest wind around 40 mph
  at times with a few gusts to 70 mph. At 1211 AM, A WYDOT sensor
  along Outer Drive measured a gust of 67 mph.

* IMPACTS...As of midnight, Wyoming 258 which is also known as
  Outer Drive in Casper was closed to light, high profile vehicles
  due to the extreme blow over risk.

  Outer Driver on the south side of Casper at 105 AM. 
 
* WINDS...Southwest 30 to 45 mph with gusts around 60 mph will be
  common. However the south side of Casper will see southwest wind
  around 50 mph with gusts to 75 mph. 

* IMPACTS...Mainly to transportation. These winds may cause loss
  of vehicle control or a blow over to high profile vehicles
  traveling empty or with a light load. Drivers of such vehicles
  are advised to delay travel. As of 1 AM, Wyoming 258 on the 
  south side of Casper was closed to light, high profile vehicles.

* IMPACTS...Travellers should be prepared for another potential

  highway 120 between Cody and Clark.

.SHORT TERM...Today through Thursday Night

A transitional ridge will move over WY Tuesday. This will not allow
temps to rise as it has in the last few days but will be dryer
weather with light winds for most of the day. Late Tuesday night to
Wednesday morning the next system will move into Western WY.  The
upper trough has filled a bit from previous runs and precip will
mainly occur in the western mountains and valleys.  700mb temps in
the western areas start at -7 with this system and drop to -11 during
the day so expect snow from start to finish.  Still, this system is
another quick mover so accumulations will be low, 3 to 5 inches in
the mountains and less than an inch in the valleys.

Another impact of the system Wednesday will be gusty winds in the
Wind Corridor and Johnson County.  GFS/NAM H7 heights show
significant tightening across the state. The area from Rock Springs
to Casper will be quite gusty with some southwesterly gusts near 50
mph from the Green Mountains to Casper until mid afternoon.
Wednesday evening post frontal winds in Johnson County will get some
good funneling and see isolated areas of northwest wind gusting to
45 mph. Currently keeping both of these wind areas below high wind
warning criteria.

Thursday's transitional ridge will be very weak, almost to the mount
of being nonexistent.  Despite this, weather looks to be dry with
light winds for most of the day.  Winds in the Absaroka, Wind River
Mountains, and Wind Corridor will increase Thursday night with the
approach of Friday's system.

.LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday

Zonal flow or flat ridging is expected Thursday and Friday. Could
squeeze out some light snow over the far west/northwest Thursday
night/Friday. Otherwise dry conditions and slightly above average
temperatures in the 5 to 10 degree range are expected.

Global models continue to struggle with the evolution of a trough
impacting the western U.S. this weekend into early next week with
large spreads in ensemble members as well as run to run consistency
with both timing and placement of significant features. The trend
tonight except for the operational 00Z GFS, and a few of its
ensemble members is for a slightly more progressive trough late this
weekend into early next week. Will continue to broad brush PoPs
Sunday and Monday, but have generally increased PoPs as confidence
of precipitation is increasing although timing remains elusive.
Based on the ECMWF and Canadian timing, snow levels will initially
begin quite high for early December Saturday night, but lower to
valley floors Sunday/Sunday evening as the main cold front shifts
south and east across the forecast area. Once again the 00Z GFS is
much slower and not as cold with the cold front early next week.

.AVIATION...For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Wednesday afternoon

Mainly SKC conditions across the airspace, except KRIW, where LIFR
FG continues. This fog looks like it is starting to lift, so the
current forecast should hold through 19Z. Otherwise, the forecast
for most terminal sites will be the increasing surface wind
tonight after 06Z, along with strong LLWS. Increased wind at
KCOD, KCPR and KJAC from the previous forecast and thus, removed
mention for LLWS. However, strong winds will be just below
criteria in these areas between 010-030. The winds are expected to
last through at least 18Z Wed, as a cold front rapidly passes
through northern and central WY.

Fuels remain at critical levels across over portions of Fremont,
Johnson and Natrona Counties.

Dry conditions with cooler temperatures and light winds for most of
the day. Tonight, winds will become gusty from Eastern Sweetwater
through Natrona Counties. Wednesday morning will see our next
weather system. Snowfall will focus in the Western Mountains and
Valleys with low accumulations of 3 to 5 inches in the mountains and
less than an inch in the valleys. Winds will be stronger from the
Green Mountains to Natrona County from Wednesday morning through mid
afternoon, some areas seeing close to 50 mph. Johnson County will
pick up in the late afternoon to late evening Wednesday reaching
gusts of 45 mph.

...Areas of Dense Fog will Continue the Remainder of the Morning...

Areas of dense freezing fog will will across the Wind River Basin
this morning before finally lifting and dissipating early this
afternoon. Visibility will be reduced to under a quarter mile at
times. The majority of the fog is between Pavillion and Shoshoni
south to Riverton and Hudson. This fog could also deposit
additional ice on exposed surfaces. Motorists are urged to slow
down, use low beams when fog is encountered, and be aware some
black ice could be present on untreated roadways.
