TO 4 PM EST THURSDAY...

* ACCUMULATIONS...Snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches.

* LOCATIONS...Eastern Pennsylvania and central and northern New 
  Jersey.

* HAZARD TYPES...Heavy snow.

* VISIBILITIES...One quarter mile or less at times.

* TIMING...A wintry mix will overspread the area from the west 
  near midnight reaching the northern New Jersey coast by 4 am. 
  The event will likely begin as snow north of the I-78 
  corridor. Elsewhere, rain will change over to snow from 
  northwest to southeast into early Thursday morning. Sleet may 
  mix in briefly during the transition from rain to snow. The 
  snow likely will be heavy for a time Thursday morning before 
  tapering off quickly from west to east during midday or the 
  afternoon.

* IMPACTS...The heavy snow will make many roads potentially 
  impassable for several hours during the worst part of the 
  storm which should be 5 am to 10 am. There may be widespread 
  power outages due to the weight of the snow on tree limbs and 
  power lines. The threat for power outages will be less where 
  temperatures are mostly below 30 degrees during the snow.

* WINDS...North 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* TEMPERATURES...falling into the 20s over most of this area 
  during the snow before a slight recovery in the afternoon.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will settle to our south and east during today. Low
pressure will develop along the front this evening and track across
the Mid Atlantic region later tonight, then strengthen as it quickly
tracks northeastward near Cape Cod Thursday afternoon. High pressure
builds in during Friday, then a warm front arrives Friday night and
Saturday. A cold front should move through Sunday night, with weak
high pressure to our west Tuesday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
330 am snapshot...pls refer to web posted products til can
update WSW and detail the AFD. We have warned. Models still
have variances but essentially we have a 6 to 12 hour Thursday
morning event that will have high impact on the morning commute.
Recovery during the afternoon.

Snow amounts may vary depending on banding, and where any
convective thundersnow develops. A 2 hour period of heavy sleet
would lower amounts near I-95.

No matter...its going to be a rough Thursday morning after this
mornings near record warmth...which often happens in northeast
USA winters.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/...
Updates at 415 am.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Summary...Much colder through Friday night followed by a warm up
over the weekend.

Synoptic Setup...A sharp upper-level trough over our area Thursday
evening will shift to our east overnight and early Friday. The upper-
level flow then turns more zonal as a trough in the West starts to
build a ridge in the Plains Saturday. A split flow may then evolve
later in the weekend and early next week as a trough amplifies
across eastern Canada and into the Northeast, with a southern system
possibly cutting off across northern Mexico to Texas. The pattern
should favor a few systems moving through our area, with two of them
looking to be centered over the weekend. Another system may then
arrive toward mid week. We used a model/continuity blend for
Thursday night through Friday night, then blended in the 00z WPC
Guidance. Some adjustments were then made after additional
collaboration with our surrounding offices.

For Thursday night and Friday...A sharp upper-level trough moves
through during about the first half of Thursday night. Very cold air
along with short wave energy and steeper lapse rates may result in a
few showers or even a squall especially across the southern half of
the area. Some upstream connection to lake effect off the eastern
lakes may play a role, however location is less certain for these
narrow snow showers/squalls. We will keep some low PoPs in the
forecast at lest through Midnight. A gusty northwest wind will ease
up Thursday night and especially during Friday as high pressure
arrives from the west. A developing warm front though to our west
will usher in warm air advection aloft with some increase in the
clouds later Friday. The increasing warm air advection and
northeastward shift of the warm front will allow for isentropic
lift. This may result in a band of mainly light snow across the
northern areas Friday night into early Saturday morning. We will
keep PoPs in the chance range for now.

For Saturday and Sunday...A weak piece of energy sliding across the
Great Lakes Saturday should result in weak low pressure. This will
pull a warm front northward across our area with the best lift and
moisture tending to be focused to our north. This feature along with
its weak cold front may start to dissipate late Saturday into Sunday
as additional energy drops down across the Midwest. This feature
looks to be stronger as the upper-level trough amplifies. As a
result, some precipitation is possible during Sunday however
temperatures should be moderating and therefore after any possible
wintry mix up north early Sunday probably just rain.

For Monday and Tuesday...While a split flow may be present with
energy closing off over northern Mexico to Texas, the northern
stream looks to dominate our weather. This results in a trough
amplifying across the Northeast Monday then shifting off the New
England coast Tuesday. This results in northwesterly flow increasing
for a time before relaxing some later Tuesday. This time frame looks
to generally be dry as of now.

.AVIATION /09Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

This section updates around 415 am.

Today...after LIFR north of warm front lifts by 13z...sct-bkn
aoa 3500 feet. Southwest wind shift northwest with gusts
generally under 20 kt.

Outlook...
Thursday night and Friday...A few snow showers or squalls around
Thursday night, otherwise VFR. Clouds increase later Friday, with
perhaps some light snow Friday night from ABE to TTN northward.
Northwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots,
diminishing later Friday and becoming west-southwest.

Saturday and Sunday...Periods of sub-VFR conditions possible with a
chance for some rain at times.

SCA into today. Lull later on. Gale Thursday. Details in the 415
am update. Expectation is that despite some remaining sca seas
late today, that todays SCA will discontinue in favor of the
higher priority impending GLW.

Outlook...
Thursday night...Gale Warning issued. Strong low pressure will
continue to move into the Canadian Maritimes, however much colder
air with a northwest flow will result in efficient mixing. The winds
should diminish some later at night. Light freezing spray is
expected to develop.

Friday...Northwesterly winds will gradually diminish especially late
in the day and at night, however gusts 25-30 knots expected for a
time.

Saturday and Sunday...The conditions should be below advisory
criteria.

...Patchy dense fog in portions of eastern Pennsylvania and the
northern two thirds of Nw Jersey for several more hours...

Patchy dense fog will hamper travel from near Philadelphia northward,
including much of east central and northeast Pennsylvania as well
as the Interstate 95 Corridor from the vicinity of Philadelphia
up to New Brunswick.

Be alert for rapidly changing visibility overnight and slow down
for safer travel.

The fog will be dissipating in the Philadelphia metro area shortly
after midnight as temperatures sharply rise into the lower 60s on
gusty southerly winds to near 30 mph.
