.SYNOPSIS...
The strong coastal low will continue to lift northward across Cape
Cod and into Maine tonight through Wednesday, then drift northward
into eastern Canada Wednesday night into Thursday. High pressure to
our west and southwest will keep a steady northwest flow across the
area through Thursday. The high will build to our south Friday,
before a low pressure and associated frontal boundaries move across
the northeast late Friday into Saturday. High pressure may briefly
affect the area Monday, with a frontal boundary passage possible
Tuesday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING/...
The steady snows have ended. Scattered snow showers will
continue overnight as the upper trough and weak upper vort maxs
move through. Snow showers will be across the southern Poconos,
Lehigh valley and into Delmarva too. Gusty winds and cold
temperatures to continue. Very hazardous road surfaces with some
melt earlier that has quickly refroze. Lows 10-15 north and
15-20 south. Wind chills sub-zero far north and teens south.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM WEDNESDAY THROUGH 6 PM WEDNESDAY/...
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a gusty northwest wind picking up
to between 35 and 40 mph during the afternoon.That results in
considerable afternoon blowing and drifting snow along and
northwest of I-95 since daytime max temps will be below freezing.
Scattered snow showers and squalls may concentrate some wind
energy into 45 to 50 mph gusts along with a brief 1/2 inch
snowfall in a few swaths. Max temps 15 to 20 degrees below
normal as the primary cold core upper low passes overhead!
We may need to issue a wind advisory for Wednesday afternoon.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As we can see from the last 12-24 hours, winter is not over, and
there will be a couple of chances for wintry precipitation during
the extended period.
For Wednesday night into Thursday, the coastal low that affect our
area Tuesday will be moving out of Maine and into eastern Canada.
Meanwhile, high pressure will be located to our west and southwest.
This will keep a steady northwest flow across the area. Winds
overnight Wednesday are not expected to be overly gusty, but should
remain steady 10-15 mph. However, as we move into the day Thursday,
wind gusts will increase again to 25-30 mph. With the northwest
flow, there will be some enhanced low-mid level moisture across the
Poconos and northwest New Jersey during this period, and any
enhanced lift from a couple of short wave/vorticity impulses may
help enhance some lake effect snow showers that may reach our area.
By Thursday night and early Friday, the high pressure builds to our
south, and may nose its way briefly across the area, keeping dry
conditions overnight Thursday into the first half of Friday.
However, late Friday into Friday night, a warm front is forecast to
develop and lift into the area as an area of low pressure moves
across the Great Lakes region. The low will then track toward our
Mid-Atlantic Saturday, pulling a cold front across the area. The
latest GFS and ECMWF have some differences with their locations of
the low; the GFS passes just to our north and the ECMWF just to our
south. A period of wintry precipitation is again possible from late
Friday into Saturday, but will be dependent of the track of this
low. The northern half of the area has the best chance of seeing the
precipitation starting as snow, then mixing with sleet, and possibly
freezing rain and the southern half having the better chance for
starting out as snow then changing to rain.
The low will move to our northeast overnight Saturday into Sunday,
developing a steady northwest flow across the area. The majority of
the precipitation will end by Saturday night, but there could be
some snow showers across the northern tier of the area with the
northwest flow developing Saturday night through Sunday.
Sunday night into Monday are expected to be dry as high pressure
builds across the area Monday. But another frontal boundary is
forecast to move across the area Monday night into Tuesday, which
could bring another round of precipitation to the area. This could
start out as a wintry mix for some area for a period overnight
Monday, before changing to rain by Tuesday morning.
