Winds expected to slowly come down after daybreak but will stay
gusty through the day, starting a substantial decrease toward and
after 00Z. A few metars are reporting mvfr cigs along with -ra.
The cigs and -ra are likely a result of a layer of residual
blowing dust and should be transient.

DISCUSSION...
Wind shift/cold front has cleared all but southeast Oklahoma.
Strong gusty winds are a few hours removed from the initial wind
shift but this is gradually changing this evening based on radar
trends. Freezing or subfreezing near surface temperatures are
located across far northeast Colorado and western Nebraska. The
wind will remain rather strong overnight, so most of the drop in
temperature will occur with advection. Near freezing or freezing
temperatures are likely across far northwest Oklahoma by sunrise
Friday, so we will keep the Freeze Warning in effect for this
area.

Still appears most of the current Freeze Watch for early
Saturday will be upgraded to a warning. Overall the forecast
appears on track after a small adjustment to wind speeds.

19z surface analysis shows the cold front from near Blackwell to
Enid to Clinton to Quanah, moving southeastward. Northerly winds
behind the front will be quite strong, hence the Wind Advisory. So
far, gusts up to around 50 mph have been observed at a couple
Oklahoma mesonet sites in far northwest Oklahoma. Gusts between 40
and 50 mph will be common this evening and tonight across much
western and central Oklahoma and western north Texas.

Meteograms at post frontal mesonet sites show steady or slowly
falling temperatures, indicating cold advection is strong enough to
offset the typical early afternoon warming trend from diabatic
heating. Cold advection will continue overnight and a small section
of northwest Oklahoma could see freezing or sub-freezing
temperatures by morning. Pressure gradient and boundary layer mixing is
in good shapeleads to some uncertainty on temperatures during
the early morning, so confidence that all/most locations within
the current Freeze Warning (Woods, Woodward, Harper and Ellis
counties) will fall to or below freezing is not particularly high.
Some locations will fall to 30-32 degrees, however. A hard freeze
is not expected late tonight/tomorrow morning. Breezy north winds
will result in wind chill values as low as 20 degrees in
northwest Oklahoma.

Much cooler temperatures are expected tomorrow. Most locations will
see high temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Winds will
decrease late in the day and become light near a surface ridge axis
overnight. This will cause temperatures to fall to sub-freezing lows
that will be colder than we have seen across the area since last
March. A hard freeze is likely across roughly the northwest half of
the forecast area. All locations are expected to fall to at least 32
degrees, and so the Freeze Watch continues and covers the whole area
Friday night/Saturday morning.

Temperatures will moderate this weekend as mean trough in the east
moves away and a veering wind profile returns favoring downslope and
dry/warm advection. The warmest day looks to be Sunday. Models are
in good agreement on another cold front moving into our area Monday
in associated with digging shortwave in the Great Lakes. Meanwhile a
compact deamplifying/weakening southern stream short wave will
provide a period of modest ascent atop this boundary on
Tuesday/Tuesday night. Enough moistening may occur by then to
support light precipitation, which should be mostly rain given GFS
forecast soundings, although >0C wetbulb layer isn't particularly
deep. If cold surge associated with aforementioned digging short
wave is more significant, we'll need to consider some mention of
at least a mix of snow across portions of the area.

Right now our temperatures forecast for Tuesday is commensurate
with fairly low precipitation probabilities and dry conditions,
but if low level saturation occurs and precipitation forms,
wetbulbing will cause temperatures to be considerably cooler than
the current forecast has. We'll continue to refine this portion of
the forecast as smaller scale details in model guidance become
more clear.

Strong north winds will develop behind a cold front that will move
south across the area through the night. Gusts 40 to 50 mph will
be likely across much of Oklahoma and western north Texas.
Motorists need to exercise caution due to blowing dust.
Visibilities may be reduced to near zero near plowed fields,
especially on roadways that are immediately south of those
fields.

.Cold...
Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing late tonight
across parts of northwest Oklahoma.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday...

.Cold...
Subfreezing temperatures will be possible across northwest
Oklahoma Friday morning. Most of Oklahoma and western north Texas
will see a freeze Friday night and Saturday morning. These will
be the first freezes of the season for most of the region.
Although not as widespread, subfreezing temperatures will be
possible Saturday night into Sunday morning as well.

Make sure that outdoor pets are taken care of, unhook outdoor
water hoses, cover exposed water pipes and protect all tender
vegetation. The freeze on Friday night and Saturday morning will
likely be a hard freeze across much of the area.
