counties. A frost advisory covers the rest of southern Wisconsin, 
except for Lafayette county. Temperatures will fall into the upper

Area Forecast Discussion

.TODAY AND TONIGHT...Forecast confidence is high.

Dry high pressure in place across the region. Dewpoints are pretty
low to the north, as is much of the column, so accounting for
further drying due to deep mixing, we should see lots of dewpoints
in the 20s over all but the far SW forecast area. This sets the
stage for a cold night tonight. Will post a freeze warning for our
northern into central forecast area...down the Kettle Moraine
spine. Temps today will be pretty similar to yesterday, maybe a
degree to two cooler. But, winds will be lighter, so it should
feel pretty good.

.MONDAY - Confidence...Medium
Surface ridge axis edges ever so slowly east ward from WI to wrn
Lower MI by days end. So the lingering anticyclonic influence of
this high will dominate. Low pressure will be shifting eastward
through Nebraska towards Iowa and the warm frontal precip is
proggd to stay to our southwest. 925 temps will be slowly
moderating through the single digits celsius. Axis of better RH
associated with the 850 baroclinic zone proggd to remain mostly to
our southwest and west.

.MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY - Confidence...Medium
Carrying some POPS in mainly the southwest cwa as axis of 850
waa/frontogenetical forcing clips the area. There is a weak 500
millibar vorticity maxima that swings through mainly Tuesday
morning. Bufkit soundings look pretty dry overall so the lighter
amounts skimming the south look reasonable. Looks like the better
forcing and moisture will keep the higher qpf numbers to our south
with that 850 waa/baroclinic zone.

.WEDNESDAY - Confidence...
GFS/ECMWF both show shortwave energy moving across northern WI
with an associated surface/850 trough swinging through. So will
carry more shra chances with this system.

.WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT - Confidence...Medium
Looks uneventful in the wake of the passing system with high
pressure taking hold. The GFS shows more of a low level thermal
trough settling in while the ECMWF has 850 temps several degrees
warmer.

.FRIDAY AND SATURDAY - Confidence...Low to Medium
Pretty decent consensus from the ECMWF and GFS that a 500
millibar low is proggd to drop into the upper Midwest from Canada
and bring a swath of shra along with it esp Friday night into
Saturday. The GFS is a little quicker bring some shra into srn WI
on Friday after 18z and is quicker to exit the system to the east
on Saturday with a northerly wind on the back side. Meanwhile the
ECMWF keeps the low level trough in the vicinity with more
organized shra than the more wraparound type the GFS implies.
