.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 320 AM CDT Fri May 12 2017/
Currently...An upper low is tracking through eastern Oklahoma
while the attendant surface low is located just to the southeast
along the Arkansas/Oklahoma state line. A stationary boundary
extends from the surface low across the northern part of the Mid-
South while a cold front extends south from the surface low
toward the gulf coast. Convection has been on the weakening trend
over the past few hours as instability wanes. A few thunderstorms
remain across the southern part of the forecast area from
Tallahatchie to Chickasaw counties.
Today and tonight...As the upper low and surface low track ESE
into the Mid-South expect additional development. Should see a
band of shower and thunderstorms develop along the deformation
zone north of the track of the upper low invof of the stationary
boundary. Latest radar imagery shows that this is already
happening over north central AR. This band is also depicted on
the recent HRRR runs and should track into the flash flood watch
area. Considered dropping the watch but given the rain last night,
ongoing flooding issues and the potential development of this
band have elected to keep the watch going through 18z today. As
the day progresses the airmass will destabilize as the cold air
aloft associated with the upper low moves over a relatively warm
and moist boundary layer. As a result expect development to
continue to blossom into the afternoon. By late this afternoon as
the upper low tracks into NW Mississippi rain chances will
diminish across Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel. A few strong
storms are possible across North Mississippi this afternoon where
the greatest instability will develop. Kept fairly high pops going
across Northeast Mississippi into the evening hours as the upper
low does not exit into Alabama until after midnight.
Weekend...It is pretty rare to have two magnificent weekends in a
row in early May but that is what we are faced with. Surface high
pressure will build into the region with a low humidities and
pleasant temperatures. Highs will be in the upper 70s on Saturday
and lower 80s on Sunday with lows in the 50s.
Monday through Tuesday....Upper level high pressure builds over
the region as surface high pressure shifts east. Humidity levels
remain comfortable though temps will start climbing with mid 80s
on Monday and upper 80s on Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday...The upper ridge shifts east and we
transition to southwest flow aloft. Southerly surface flow
increases and humidity levels start to rise. Meanwhile weak upper
disturbances will start moving through in the southwest flow
aloft. Wednesday should be mostly dry with perhaps NE Arkansas
having a chance for a shower or thunderstorm. By Thursday rain
chances spread across more of the area.

Rain showers will be around for most of the day...tapering off at
JBR, MEM and MKL by midnight...lingering through the night at
TUP. A period of thunderstorms also looks likely between midday
and Sunset as the atmosphere destabilizes with warming
temperatures. Included VCTS at all sites during the afternoon
hours. Brief periods of IFR or even LIFR vis is possible in
association with on station thunderstorms. Skies are expected to
clear at MKL...MEM and JBR by 12/14z. Winds will shift from the
Northeast tonight increasing to 10-12kt.
