Winds will continue to subside over the next couple of hours as the pressure gradient relaxes and cooling temperatures allow for an inversion to form. Therefore the wind advisory was cancelled. In addition...wrap around clouds have quickly advanced east into Middle Tennessee...so current and forecasted evening sky cover and temperatures were adjusted accordingly across the Tennessee River counties. The remaining forecast parameters are on track. JAB && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 329 PM CDT Fri May 5 2017/ DISCUSSION... At 3PM, a blustery day taking place across the Mid-South. Memphis International has been the hot spot with a gust to 46 MPH this afternoon. We have received multiple reports via Twitter, about downed powerlines and trees across the area as a result. Gradient winds are expected to relax after sundown as the surface low pushes off to the east and weak high pressure builds in tonight. Temperatures are mainly in the low to upper 60s this afternoon, with sunny skies across the entire area right now. Short term...tonight through Sunday... Mainly dry this weekend, except for a weak cold front tomorrow afternoon that may kick off a small chance for rain. All models, including the EURO are now on board. Despite strong north winds tomorrow, highs will peak in the mid to upper 70s areawide. Sunday will be much like Saturday with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s under sunny skies. Long term...Monday through late next week... The beginning of this period will be characterized by a ridge of high pressure aloft, as the Omega Block remains dominant over the CONUS. As a result, a warming trend is expected to occur. Highs will push into the 80s on Monday through Wednesday. By late Wednesday, the blocking pattern will finally break down, and a cutoff low will eject from the Four Corners. At the surface a weak low pressure will begin to organize near the Oklahoma Panhandle and lift a warm front through the Mid-South by late Wednesday night. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will be on the increase on Thursday, as the wave begins to eject from the Plains. Another upper level low will push down from the north by next weekend, with another cold front passage possible.
