.Tropical Depression Cindy will continue to  weaken over the next
36 hours as the center moves northeastward into the Lower
Mississippi Valley. Moderate to heavy rainfall will be possible 
across Northwest Mississippi, much of Eastern Arkansas, West
Tennessee, and the Missouri Bootheel. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 
inches...with localized higher totals are possible. Rain will 
taper off Friday Night as the system moves into the middle Ohio 
River Valley and points east.

.The remnants of Tropical Depression Cindy has pushed out of the 
Mid-South. However, flash flooding may still be possible this 
evening as a line of strong thunderstorms push into the Mid-South
ahead of an approaching cold front. Any additional rainfall from 
these thunderstorms could quickly cause flash flooding due to the 
recent heavy rainfall from Cindy.

Showers continued to gradually spread north from central MS at
midevening. There remained some disagreement between the models
regarding vigorousness and thunder potential during the overnight.
But models do point relatively high chances of light measurable
rain accumulations.

Beyond tonight, have trimmed back rain chances Saturday, based on
medium range model consensus showing a quicker exit of TS Cindy's
remnants, and arrival of drier midcontinental air north of I-40.

The KNQA radar experienced a hardware fault earlier this evening,
but electronics staff were able to quickly restore the radar to
service.

DISCUSSION...

Tropical Storm Cindy is currently positioned in the northwest Gulf
of Mexico and will begin to make a increasingly northward turn
overnight as it moves between a break in the subtropical ridge. It
should make landfall sometime tonight and then begin to turn
northeastward towards the Mid South Thursday night and Friday,
ahead of an approaching mid latitude trough.

Abundant tropical moisture along the eastern periphery of the
system will continue to overspread much of the forecast region
overnight. Associated lift and convergence should support showers
and isolated thunderstorms over the forecast area through tonight.
The greatest potential for rain overnight will be across north
Mississippi. Overall, rainfall amounts should remain light with
this first wave of moisture, with most totals remaining below
flash flood guidance.

The tropical storm should weaken to a depression on Thursday and
Thursday night as it lifts northeast into southern Arkansas.
Latest model guidance suggests that a notable mid level dry slot
will rotate northward along the eastern periphery of the remnant
low. This should help support modest destabilization across
portions of the Mid South, especially south and west of the
Memphis metro by Thursday afternoon. Low level winds should
increase and back to the northeast of the remnant low. This should
increase helicity and shear coinciding with the increased
instability. This should bring an increased severe weather risk to
southwest portions of the region Thursday afternoon and evening.
The primary risk will be isolated tornadoes with any fast moving
low topped supercell structure that can develop. A Slight Risk for
severe thunderstorms is in place on Thursday afternoon and evening
across southwest portions of the region, with a Marginal Risk
further north and east.

The remnant low should continue to lift northeast across the Mid
South on Friday and interact with a stalling synoptic front across
northern portions of the forecast area. As deep tropical moisture
associated with Cindy's remnant low interacts with the front,
strong lift should ensue and become a focus for excessive rainfall
amounts. Latest guidance suggests that a swath of 3 to 5 inches,
with localized higher amounts, will be possible in the vicinity of
the low track and stalled front. This will most likely set up
along and north of Interstate 40. A flash flood watch will likely
be needed for sometime during the Thursday night through Friday
time period across these areas. Later shifts will further assess
the situation and determine where a watch becomes necessary.

The remnant low of Cindy should track roughly along the I-40
corridor on Friday. Areas southeast of this track, namely
northeast Mississippi, will continue to experience increased
helicity/shear associated with low level jet and modest
instability. Low topped supercells are again possible late
Thursday night into Friday across these areas with a risk for
isolated tornadoes. A Slight Risk is in place for these locations
on Friday.

As Cindy accelerates to the northeast and away from our region
Friday night, the stalled front should sag further south and wash
out through Saturday. There will likely be a continued chance for
showers and thunderstorms across the region.

A reinforcing front will move through the Mid South Sunday into
Monday with additional chances for showers and thunderstorms. A
drier airmass will follow the front for the middle portions of
next week with a return to dry weather along with cooler
temperatures and lower humidity levels.

VFR conditions expected to gradually deteriorate to MVFR
conditions overnight and persist through much of the period at
TAF sites as Tropical Storm Cindy affects the area. IFR conditions
also possible at TUP. E winds will gradually veer SE and increase
to 8-14 kts and become gusty at times on Thursday. SHRA/VCTS also
expected, especially by Thursday afternoon.

Heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm
Cindy is expected across the Mid South for Thursday and Friday.
More localized flash flooding potential is expected tomorrow,
with an increasingly widespread flooding threat developing late
Thursday night into Friday.

In addition there is a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms across
portions of eastern Arkansas and northwest Mississippi on
Thursday, and across northeast Mississippi on Friday. The primary
threats with any fast moving severe thunderstorms will be isolated
tornadoes and localized damaging winds.
