331 PM EDT Mon Mar 13 2017
.Short Term...(This evening through Tuesday night)
Issued at 329 PM EDT Mon Mar 13 2017
Main story with slowly decreasing chances for mixed precipitation
tonight will be the increase in sub-freezing temperatures from
northwest to southeast through the night. With the surface
pressure gradient increasing after midnight from the west, low
level moisture will gradually decrease from the northwest as well.
Even with the potential for antecedent moisture on vegetation that
may mitigate some freezing early on during the evening and through
the early overnight hours, decided that the period of subfreezing
temperatures were long enough to cause some potential for harm.
Freezing temperatures will likely work into the Southern IN
counties by 06z (2 am EDT) reaching near the KY/TN border by 11z
(5 am CDT/6 am EDT) tonight. With this in mind, introduced a
Freeze warning for tonight and will delineate the areas of
concern tonight.
With precipitation chances becoming nil by daybreak on Tuesday
with the axis of the deep trough moving east of the area, the
focus will be cold and dry air advection into the area. Tuesday
will bring increase cold air advection with the sharpening
gradient ahead of the high pressure centered over MN to MO by 2
pm EDT. Anticipate overnight lows in the teens by Wednesday
morning.
&&
.Long Term...(Wednesday through Monday)
Issued at 329 PM EDT Mon Mar 13 2017
Will continue the freeze warning through at least 16z on Thursday
morning.
The cold air advection train will continue moving south-
southeastward with the 12z Monday GFS centering the High Pressure
right over central Kentucky and Southern IN by 8 am on Thursday
morning. With no precipitation and lesser cloud cover, could see
similar temperatures Wednesday night that are also expected on
Tuesday night, except with little or no wind.
Although previous forecast shifts have increased confidence on the
timing and coverage of the next wave of light precipitation
associated with a trough diving down from the upper Midwest late
Thursday into Friday, there is some uncertainty whether there
will be any mixed precipitation at the onset. At this time,
expected most of the precipitation will be in the form of rain.
Depending on the evolution and deepening of the trough as it moves
to the mid- Atlantic states by Saturday will determine if there
are any changes required for precipitation type and amounts.
The next chance for precipitation will return late Sunday into
Monday. Temperatures will be warm enough see any precipitation as
rain at this time.

.Aviation...(18Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 127 pm EDT Fri Mar 13 2017
Gradual transition from VFR to MVFR ceilings in the BWG, SDF, and
LEX with an introduction of VFR and MVFR visibilities due to rain
or rain/snow mix. There may be a brief period (less than 3 hours)
where ceiling may drop below the 1000 ft AGL threshold at each
site between 00z and 09z, but forecast confidence is too low at
this time to warrant a reduction in categories. One noticeable
adjustment was to bring a rain/snow mix to SDF earlier than
expected. Also, switched wind direction to the north a little
faster than in the 12z TAF issuance.

Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Louisville KY Issued by National Weather Service Paducah KY 1202 PM EDT Mon Mar 13 2017 INZ076-083-084-089-KYZ023>027-061-070-131800- Orange-Dubois-Crawford-Perry-Hancock-Breckinridge-Meade-Ohio- Grayson-Butler-Logan- 1202 PM EDT Mon Mar 13 2017 /1102 AM CDT Mon Mar 13 2017/ ...Minor accumulation of snow on grassy areas through 2 pm EDT... A small, but dynamic weather system is moving through parts of Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana during the later morning hours. As the system moves east through the noon hour, a minor accumulation of snow is expected to be deposited on grassy areas. Most accumulation will likely be west of a line from French Lick, onward to Brandenburg, Hardinsburg, Morgantown, to northwest of Russelville. Snowfall amounts should range from one tenth to one half inch as you travel westward. Given the warm ground and pavement temperatures, the snow should have little impact on drivers in Southern Indiana and West Central Kentucky. However, drivers should be on the lookout for changes in the visibility of the road ahead due to the snow and drive according to the weather conditions. The snow will change to a mix, then all to rain in about three hours after the onset of the wintry precipation. After that time, the coverage and intensity of the precipitation should also lessen through the remainder of the afternoon. WFO PAH/SMITH
