.SYNOPSIS...The unsettled pattern will continue into the end of
the week. By midweek, cold air pushes in from the northwest and a
return to wintry conditions is likely.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Trough digging across southern California will
induce a surface low to develop across southern Nevada. A weak
cold front associated with this low will move across the CWA
during peak heating. Sufficient moisture and instability will
help initiate isolated/scattered showers and thunderstorms. Given
the CAPE values in the 200-500 J/KG range and modest flow, a
strong storm or two will be possible. Gusty winds and small hail
will be the main threat. The best chance for precip will be on a
line from TPH to Austin to Elko and NE through Jackpot/Jarbidge.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, the significant late seasons storm will
begin to impact the CWA from NW to SE. A strong cold front with
impressive isentropic lift ahead of the bndry will break out
widespread showers across the CWA Tue aftn/eve. An upper level
feature/cold front should help focus lines of showers and isolated
thunderstorms until the sfc front moves through later Tuesday
evening. Once the front moves through Tue eve, snow levels will
rapidly crash to the valley floors with accumulating snow
expected. Passes/summits and many valleys above 5500-6000ft will
see significant accumulation, therefore a Winter Storm Watch
remains in effect for the Ruby/East Humboldt Mtns and northern
Elko County.

For the Elko area expect rain to change to snow late Tuesday
night and continue off and on through Thursday early morning. 1 to
3 inches of snow is possible. For Spring Creek the same goes, but
snow amounts will be higher. Current thinking, with only low to
marginal confidence, is 3-5 inches of snow. The highest amounts
will be in the Pleasant Valley, Lamoille, Jiggs, Lee, areas and
for elevations generally above 5500ft.

Winds will be another concern. Even though the snow content will
be heavy and wet, there may be brief period late Tuesday night
into Wednesday morning for blowing and drifting snow across the
mtns and valleys in northern Elko. Passes/summits and higher
elevation roads could see difficult travel. However the high sun
angle will help mitigate this during the day. Any road impacts would
only be during the early morning hours on Wednesday morning and
perhaps Thursday morning.

.LONG TERM...Wednesday night through Sunday. The period begins
with cold upper low centered over northern UT with wrap around
precipitation across eastern NV. This upper low migrates very
slowly eastward so wrap around precipitation will continue through
Thursday then begin to taper off Thursday night before ending by
Friday. Valley across eastern NV could see an additional 1 to 3
inches of snow through Thursday morning before snow levelS rise
above valley floors by Thursday afternoon. Dry Friday and Saturday
as ridging builds across the region. A weak clipper short wave
dropping down from the north Sunday could produce some isolated
shower activity over northeastern Elko county. Temperatures
warming up into the mid 60s to the mid 70s over the weekend.

.AVIATION...Isolated to scattered showers activity will develop
across eastern NV today with isolated afternoon and evening
thunderstorms. Mostly VFR conditions expected, but MVFR conditions
possible under heavier showers.

.HYDROLOGY...A potent mid-week storm system will result in
significant amounts of valley rain and/or snow. This will be
watched closely as it could have impacts on water levels later
next week. Additional rises are likely on areas streams and rivers
by the end of next week.

Humboldt River - Battle Mountain: minor flooding with the river
level holding steady.

Humboldt River - Comus, near Winnemucca: Minor flooding continues
with the river slowly rising.

Mary's River - near Deeth. Minor flooding continues with the river
holding steady or falling slightly.

The following rivers and creeks are not in flood but are running
high.

Bruneau River - near Rowland: The river has fallen below flood
stage, but remains high. Additional rises are possible later next
week.

Humboldt River - Carlin: The river is holding steady or slightly
rising. The river will likely approach or exceed minor flood
stage into early next week.

Humboldt River - Palisade: The river is slowly rising.

Salmon falls creek - near Jackpot. The creek is holding steady.

Wildhorse Dam - at Wildhorse. Lake water level is at its highest
since 2011.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of Nevada...north
central Nevada...northeast Nevada...northwest Nevada and south
central Nevada.

.Day One...This Afternoon and Tonight.

No significant weather is expected at this time.

.Days Two through Seven...Monday through Saturday.

Monday. A weak cold front will move through the region bringing
showers and thunderstorms to much of the state, primarily east of
Humboldt county. Main concern will be brief heavy rainfall, small
hail and gusty thunderstorm outflow winds.

Tuesday through Thursday. A significant mid-Spring storm system
will impact the Great Basin for the middle part of this week.
Showers and thunderstorms will occur ahead of the main low
pressure system Tuesday before a strong cold front moves across
Nevada late Tuesday. The storm system is expected to track across
southern Idaho and far northeast Nevada Tuesday night and
Wednesday. Temperatures will fall Tuesday night into the 30s with
a wintry mix changing over to all snow by Wednesday morning across
northern Nevada. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible
in valley locations mainly in southwestern and south-central Elko
county with higher amounts possible in Spring Creek and locations
along and near the Ruby Mountains. A Winter Storm Watch has been
issued for the Ruby and East Humboldt ranges, as well as northern
Elko County. Significant snowfall accumulations are expected in
these areas. Snow is expected to diminish very late Wednesday
night or Thursday morning. If precipitation continues into
Thursday afternoon, many locations would likely change back to
rain.

Travel concerns will arise late Tuesday night into Wednesday
across northern Nevada as colder air filters into the region and
snow begins to accumulate with temperatures Tuesday night
dropping to around freezing. However, above freezing temperatures
on Wednesday will inhibit snow accumulations on many road surfaces
but passes and summits such as Pequop and Emigrant on I-80 will
be of concern.
