.SYNOPSIS...A cold front moving through the state this afternoon
and evening will bring an increase in clouds and some
isolated showers and thunderstorms along with stronger gusty winds.
Dry conditions with well above normal temperatures prevail Monday
through Thursday with precipitation chances increasing beginning
Friday along with much cooler temperatures.

.SHORT TERM...Today through Monday

It is mainly clear currently but clouds will be increasing today
as a quick-moving cold front will move across the state this
afternoon/evening and will be northeast of us later tonight. This
may produce isolated showers. Though the GFS/EC/NAM all indicate
extremely marginal instability across Nevada, all of the high
resolution models maintain a stronger SW-NE oriented axis of
convection from Eureka county through the Ruby Mountains and into
NE Elko county around 0Z. Precipitable water values will be around
0.50 as well, so limited dry thunderstorm activity cant be ruled
out and isolated coverage was maintained. West to Southwest winds
will be on the increase this afternoon with some gusts to 35-40
mph by this evening. Winds will shift to northwest behind the
front tonight and diminish.

High temperatures will still be well above
normal today in the 80's to around 90 in the warmest valleys.
Cooler temperatures behind the cold front will move into the state
tonight with lows mainly in the 40's. Monday will be dry with
highs in the mid 70's to mid 80's.

.LONG TERM...Monday night through Saturday. The models are in good
agreement through Friday, then seem to waffle a bit handling the
persistent energy plowing into the base of a negative-tilt trough
lying over the west.

Monday night through Thursday. Dry conditions are expected. A
ridge of high pressure centered just east of the 4-corners area of
the country will amplify then shift east upon the intrusion of a
fairly strong low pressure system dropping down from Aleutian
Island region. High temperatures will range from the 80s to around
90 degrees. Low temperatures will range from the mid 40s to the
mid 50s.

Thursday night through Saturday. This entire period could be
unsettled as a negative-tilt trough settles over the Great Basin
with plenty of upstream energy. There are some model differences
arising by the weekend however the trough will be open for
shortwave energy to bring moisture into the LKN CWFA in a
favorable direction north of the Sierra-Nevada range. Confidence
is high that the chance for showers and thunderstorms will be
elevated on Friday. However model differences are 50-50 whether
pops could be higher on Saturday. Interestingly, snow levels will
begin to dip to 6000 feet across northern Humboldt County which
could leave some white stuff on the Santa Rosa Mountains on June
10. High temperatures will generally range from the mid 70s to the
mid 80s on Friday, and generally from the mid 60s to the mid 70s
on Saturday. Low temperatures will generally range from the mid
40s to the mid 50s Thursday night, and generally from the mid 30s
to the mid 40s Friday night.

.AVIATION...VFR conditions are expected at KWMC KEKO KELY and KTPH
through Monday morning. Thunderstorms are expected across northern
Nevada, possibly impacting KWMC and KEKO however the main concern
will be southwesterly wind gusts to 30 kts that will be possible
Sunday afternoon at each site.

.FIRE WEATHER...Based on the cured status of only Fire Zone 468,
there are no imminent critical issues noted at this time.
Generally all areas south of Interstate 80 will see afternoon
minimum RH values below 15% today with well above normal
temperatures. There may be an isolated mix of wet and dry
lightning strikes north of highway 50 as well. Southerly winds
will gust to 30-40 mph by evening.

.HYDROLOGY...Exceptionally warm temperatures this weekend are
expected to increase the rate of snowmelt.

Lamoille Creek will continue to fluctuate around Minor Flood
stage. The creek normally peaks in the evening however this
pattern sometimes changes with mild overnight temperatures. An
areal Flood Warning is in effect.

The Jarbidge River is expected to run high through the beginning
of the week.

The Humboldt River at Battle Mountain continues to run high and is
rising. The river could reach flood stage again early this week.

The lower Humboldt River from Comus downstream through Winnemucca
to the Humboldt/Pershing County border is running high and
rising again. It is expected to rise back into minor flood stage
by early this week.

Wildhorse Reservoir is still flowing over the spillway. There is
no threat for flooding at this time downstream along the Owyhee
River.
