for the following rivers in Nevada...
Humboldt River At Battle Mountain affecting Lander County
For the Lower Humboldt, including Battle Mountain, Minor flooding is
forecasted.
Rapid snow melt is entering the Humboldt River and causing the river
to rise to near bankfull in its upper reach. The flood wave will grow
and reach Battle Mountain by Thursday.
Other portions of the river around Carlin and Elko may also flood before
Thursday.

For the Lower Humboldt, including Battle Mountain, Major flooding is
occurring and is expected to continue.
The flood wave from above Elko is making its way down stream and widespread
flooding in the Battle Mountain reach of the Humboldt River will continue for
a few more days. The river is expected to crest Wednesday above 11 feet.
This would make it the second highest crest ever. There is quite a bit
of uncertainty as more runoff is occurring upstream in between gages and
in remote area. Also, more flooding is occurring downstream of Battle
Mountain which will affect the river's behavior.

For the Lower Humboldt, including Palisade...Battle Mountain...
Comus, Moderate flooding is occurring, with Major flooding forecast.
...Flooding continues on portions of the Lower Humboldt River...
The surge or cresting of flood water on the Upper Humboldt River has
worked its way down stream, and westward, from the Elko and Carlin
gauge sites, into the Lower Humboldt River.
The Humboldt River at Palisade crested at 9.92 feet at 3:30am Monday
morning, and has been moderating lower ever since, with the passing
of the flood surge. The flood surge is currently between Palisade
and Battle Mountain.
The Humboldt River at Battle Mountain has gradually risen up into
moderate flood stage. The current forecast calls for continued
moderate flooding, however with the flood surge yet to arrive at
Battle Mountain, the river stage may reach the major flood level of
11.5 feet in the next couple days, with the potential to rise toward
12 feet. There is currently still quite a bit of uncertainty with
the crest stage, date and time.
The Humboldt River at Comus is currently about 2 feet below the
minor flood stage of 9.5 feet, and continuing to rise. With the
flood surge well upstream of Comus at this time, the flood surge,
or crest for this event is likely at least a few days out,
possibly not arriving until late this weekend or early next week.
However, minor flooding is expected to begin this evening. Once

Mountain...
The flood surge moving down the Humboldt River is expected to be at
or just upstream of Battle Mountain at this time. The current
river forecast has the crest moving through the Battle Mountain area
early this morning, just below major flood stage at around 11.3 or
11.4 feet.
Due to the large distances between river gauges, the exact timing of
the flood crest is unknown. As such, it is possible that the flood
crest will come a little later in the day today, possibly also a
little higher than the current forecast. To add to the uncertainty,
the river gauge at Battle Mountain stopped reporting accurately at
around 5PM Wednesday evening. The gauge should be fixed and
operational later today. So for now, the current stage has been estimated
from the latest good data and the forecast stage.

The flood surge that originated on the Upper Humboldt River last
weekend has made its way downstream into the Lower Humboldt River.
Thursday morning the crest of the flood surge passed by the river
gauge in Battle Mountain, with a height very near the major flood
level of 11.5 feet. The exact crest height is unknown due to gauge
malfunctioning. River gauge observations in Battle Mountain resumed
at 10:15 Thursday morning, with a stage of 11.5 feet, and have
slowly subsided since that time.
At midnight Friday morning the Battle Mountain gauge was reading
11.3 feet, which is near the top of the moderate flood range. The
forecast for the Humboldt River at Battle Mountain has the river
remaining in moderate flood stage through 9AM Sunday morning, after
which time the river is expected to drop below 10.5 feet and into
minor flood stage. Minor flooding is expected to continue through
at least the middle of next week, before receding below 9.5 feet.
Over the coming days the flood surge will continue to move westward
downstream, toward Golconda, then to the Comus gauge site, and
finally to Winnemucca.
The Humboldt River at Comus has steadily been rising by roughly a
half a foot a day for the past three days. As the still upstream
flood crest gets closer to the Comus gauge, the river is expected to
rise a little quicker. As such, the Humboldt River at Comus is
forecast to reach 9.5 feet (minor flood stage) later this afternoon
or evening. The current forecast has the Comus stage cresting Sunday
morning at 10.4 feet, which would be just shy of 10.5 feet and the
lower range of moderate flood stage. The flood stage at Comus is
expected to remain near 10.4 feet through at least Tuesday before
the flood surge moves downstream of the Comus gauge and the river
level slowly subsides.
As for Winnemucca, the window for minor flooding to begin is between
10AM Tuesday and 12AM Wednesday. The flood crest at Winnemucca is
now forecast to arrive around 6AM Thursday, with a height of 19.6
feet.

Light valley rain showers and mountain snow showers will taper off through tonight. The winds have been strong today with many east/west roads experiencing cross winds. This wind is also a snow eater wind, rapidly melting snow in the higher terrain. Refer to the Hydro section for more information about widespread flooding in northern Nevada. Wednesday will be warm, breezy, and mostly dry across the region. There could be some stray showers for the ID/NV border, but most places should stay dry. Thursday and Friday. Another storm system will approach the area on Thursday with additional rain/snow likely impacting the entire CWA. Rain will gradually changeover to snow, but accumulations will depend on how fast the moisture exits. The mountains are a sure bet to pick up modest accumulations with valley locations possibly picking up minor accumulations. Any snowfall for valley locations would likely occur late Friday afternoon across the north and evening/night across the I80 corridor and south. This additional rain could also worsen/enhance ongoing flooding. .LONG TERM...Friday night through next Tuesday. Friday night through Saturday. A trough axis will be moving through the Great Basin. A good fetch of moisture will pass over central Nevada and snow levels are low enough to be conducive to a final slug of snowfall accumulation for primarily White Pine County. Low temperatures will be in the 20s. Highs will be in the 40s. Saturday night through Tuesday. High pressure will build in to provide some drying with a warmer temperature regime. Low temperatures will be in the teens and 20s. Highs will range from the 40s to around 50 degrees. && .AVIATION...Light showers and MVFR conditions will be possible through Wednesday afternoon at KWMC KEKO KELY and KTPH. && .HYDROLOGY...Warm temperatures, gusty wind, and rain on snow has caused extensive flooding issues across northern Nevada. Localized flood reports continue to come in. Small streams are already running high and some could exceed bank-full. Water is continuing to pool up. Martin Creek in Humboldt County is running high and flooding issues are possible along roads in the Paradise Valley area. Big Cottonwood Creek is another area of concern. Other creeks and ditches in the area will lead to overland flooding. Several areas east of Elko such as Ryndon, Osino, Elburz and Wells have reported extensive flooding. Water is running across Highway 93 north and south of Wells in the town of wells, with some businesses flooding. At least one business in Spring Creek reported flooding inside the building.
