  silverwood. Operations at silverwood shipyard could be affect.

* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 8.0 feet by 
  tomorrow early afternoon then begin falling.
* Impact...At stages near 8.5 feet...Some residential flooding in 
  mermentau will occur. Operations at leevac shipyard can be 
  affected. U.S. Highway 90 west of mermentau is flooded and subject 
  to being closed.
* Impact...At stages near 7.5 feet...Water is on the roadway of the 
  Field Road bridge in the southeast part of mermentau.
* Impact...At stages near 6.2 feet...The water reaches the roadway 
  of the 13th Street bridge in the southern portion of mermentau.
* Impact...At stages near 6.0 feet...Flooding of the shipyard 
  begins. Portions of castex landing, la 3166, become flooded and 
  impassable.

* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 14.5 feet by 
  Sunday morning then begin falling.
* Impact...At stages near 15.0 feet...Flooding of secondary roads 
  near the river and its tributaries begins, including Ashmore Road. 
  Strothers Crossing Road near Calcasieu and Price Crossing Road near
  Hineston have several feet of water over them and subject to 
  washouts.
* Impact...At stages near 14.0 feet...Some roads upstream from 
  Glenmora, including Strothers Crossing Road near the community of 
  Calcasieu and Price Crossing Road near Hineston have two to three 
  feet of water over the road and are subject to being closed. 
  Flooding of forested areas near the river will also occur.
* Impact...At stages near 12.0 feet...When the river is rising and 
  the gauge reading is forecast to reach 12 feet or higher. Roads 
  upstream from Glenmora, including Strothers Crossing Road near the 
  community of Calcasieu and Price Crossing Road near Hineston have 
  water on them and are subject to being closed. Also, flooding of 
  forested areas near the river will occur.

* Flood stage is 5.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by 
  Saturday morning.
* Impact...At stages near 6.5 feet...Portions of South Perkins Ferry
  Road become impassable. Recreational areas in Sam Houston Jones 
  State Park are under water, including the playground and campsites 
  nearest the river.
* Impact...At stages near 5.0 feet...Low spots on South Perkins 
  Ferry Road have water on it. Water is over some boat docks on South
  Perkins Ferry Road and over boat ramps at Sam Houston Jones State 
  Park. Extensive marshland flooding will occur upstream and 
  downstream from the park.

* Impact...At stages near 7.0 feet...Lower end of Pickrel Lane near 
  the river begins to flood. Goos Ferry Road is impassable. Closure 
  of the Calcasieu River to recreational boat traffic is likely from 
  the Saltwater Barrier to the parish line.
* Impact...At stages near 6.0 feet...Goos Ferry Road becomes 
  impassable. Calcasieu River from the Saltwater Barrier to the 
  parish line may be closed to recreational boat traffic.
* Impact...At stages near 5.0 feet...Water over lowest portions of 
  Goos Ferry Road. Cars should be moved to higher ground.

* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 5.8 feet by 
  tomorrow morning. Additional rises may be possible thereafter.
* Impact...At stages near 6.0 feet...Significant flooding of 
  numerous recreational camps and homes will occur. River Road and 
  much of Mims Road are impassable.
* Impact...At stages near 5.5 feet...Access roads including River 
  Road in North Lake Charles and Mims Road in Westlake become 
  impassable to some vehicles.
* Impact...At stages near 5.0 feet...River Road in North Lake 
  Charles and Mims Road in Westlake are flooded. Extensive marshland 
  flooding will occur.

* Flood stage is 97.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 98.5 feet by 
  tomorrow early afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage 
  Sunday evening.
* Impact...At stages near 99.0 feet...Moderate flooding begins. 
  Several roads around the lake become flooded. Flood waters begin to
  get onto Highway 394. Highway 113 downstream of Bundick Lake may 
  have water begin to flow over the road.
* Impact...At stages near 98.0 feet...Minor flooding begins around 
  the south end of the lake. Some of the lowest structures on the 
  north end of the lake begin to flood.

* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 6.0 feet.
* Forecast...rise above flood stage by Saturday afternoon and 
  continue to rise to near 6.5 feet by Saturday morning.
* Impact...At stages near 7.0 feet...Buildings at the foot of Ann 
  Street on the river side of the flood wall will flood as water 
  overtops the Rio Oil Company dock. Buildings on the river side of 
  the Berwick floodwall will flood. River traffic restrictions will 
  be strictly enforced.
* Impact...At stages near 6.0 feet...Flood stage. The city dock will
  be under water. Water will cover the lower end of Belleview Front 
  Street in Berwick. Vessel traffic will be affected by stronger 
  river current and vessel traffic safety rules will be strictly 
  enforced by the U.S. Coast Guard.
* Impact...At stages near 5.0 feet...Floodwall gates will be closed 
  to protect against higher stages. Vessel traffic will be affected

  flood around Deweyville and subject to being closed. In addition, 
  low-lying roads in Southwest Beauregard Parish are flooded 
  including Robert Clark Road. Flooding occurs on the south side of 
  Niblett Bluff Park with access roads to camp houses cut off around 
  the park. Access roads to the river in Northeastern Orange County 
  become flooded.

* Impact...At stages near 14.0 feet...Some roads upstream from 
  Glenmora, including Strothers Crossing Road near the community of 
  Calcasieu and Price Crossing Road near Hineston have two to three 
  feet of water over the road and are subject to being closed. 
  Flooding of forested areas near the river will also occur.
* Impact...At stages near 12.0 feet...When the river is rising and 
  the gauge reading is forecast to reach 12 feet or higher. Roads

  inundated with water due to backwater flooding from Bayou Que de 
  Tortue. Communities of Klondike and Lowery will experience flooding
  as well. 
* Impact...At stages near 9.5 feet...Widespread major flooding will 
  occur with residential flooding in and around mermentau to the lake
  arthur area. Numerous roads are inundated across a large area 
  including u.S. 90, la 3166, la 1126, and la 92.

  and around mermentau will occur. U.S. 90 west of mermentau is 
  closed. Operations at the shipyards are affected. Roads in the

AVIATION...
The surface cold front has cleared all area TAF sites this morning
with only a few remnant rain showers in the vicinity of KARA and
KLFT. These light showers will continue to progress eastwards and
should clear the terminals in the next 1-2 hours. Sites currently
experiencing MVFR conditions will improve to VFR throughout the
day and give way to prevailing clear skies. Northwest winds will
remain elevated through the day at 15-20 knots gusting to 25-30.
Winds will shift to west northwesterly by this evening and
decrease to 5-10 knots.

SYNOPSIS...
At 04/08Z or 3 AM CDT, a surface low was analyzed in Northern
Mississippi with a cold front trailing into Northeast Louisiana
then bisecting through the WFO Lake Charles forecast area to the
coast near the Cameron/Vermilion Parish border. Meanwhile, water
vapor imagery showed an upper level low over the Ozarks with short
wave energy pushing down from the Southern Plains into Northeast
Texas. As the cold front pushes across, dry air mass is pushing in
along with the waning of low level convergence, helping to end
shower and thunderstorm activity. Strongest activity for the
remainder of the early morning will be over the Gulf just beyond
the forecast area, with weakening rainfall rates over land areas
ahead of the front. Therefore, have gone ahead and cancelled what
was left of the Flash Flood Watch.

DISCUSSION...
After a rough 18 hours or so from Wednesday Morning into the
evening, the forecast area needs a break from the weather and it
looks like that is exactly what will be happening, with the reward
for enduring this event, about as good as weather conditions can
be for early May, for the end of the week into the weekend.

Upper level system will continue to move eastward today, pushing
the cold front across the remainder of the forecast area by the
beginning of the forecast period. Therefore, will not be carrying
any pops for the forecast area today. Some low level clouds from
wrap around moisture underneath the frontal inversion will likely
linger during the morning hours until the upper level trough
pushes off to the east bringing a deeper northwest flow. Bit of a
gradient today also, between the departing low pressure system and
high building down from the Plains, could make for some breezy
northwest winds. At this time it looks like wind speeds will be
just below wind advisory criteria. However, if we can get more
sunshine and solar heating then expected, then better mixing could
see wind gusts exceed criteria during the afternoon.

Friday into the weekend, upper level trough will deepen along the
east coast with an upper level ridge building across the Rockies.
This will bring a deep northwest flow with dry continental air
into the region. Meanwhile, at the surface, high pressure will
build in. This should make for sunny days with mild temperatures
and low humidity, with clear and cool nights.

Surface high will move off to the east on Sunday with southerly
winds off the Gulf returning. Early to mid week, warm and humid
conditions likely to resume with better southerly flow off the
Gulf. However, still does not look like any rain chances as mid
and upper level ridging will prevail.

Next chance of rain not until late next week giving the region a
chance for hydrologic conditions to begin to improve.

MARINE...
Cold front will continue to move across the coastal waters this
early morning. A drier and cooler air mass moving in will end
shower activity. Gradient between departing low pressure into the
Southeast US and high pressure building down from the plains,
along with cold air advection, should make for strong and gusty
offshore winds for today through tonight into early Friday, and a
Small Craft Advisory will be in effect.

Offshore winds will decrease over the weekend as a surface high
settles over the region. This high will move off to the east late
in the weekend, setting up onshore winds early next week.

HYDROLOGY...
Storm total precipitation products from KLCH/KPOE show a large swath
of heavy rainfall with amounts from half a foot to a foot
starting around northeast Hardin/southeast Tyler Counties then
across the Sabine through Beauregard and Calcasieu Parishes
continuing east-southeast across Acadiana to the Lower
Atchafalaya Basin. Alert, co-op, and official rain gauges confirm,
with measurements from 6 to 12 inches, that these estimates are in
the ball park. This will cause run-off issues. Currently, an
Areal Flood Warning is in effect for that area to cover standing
water on roadways that is especially dangerous at night. Run-off
issues will also occur for many area rivers, and all interests
along these locations should monitor the latest river forecasts
and flood statements.

It should also be noted that the ASOS at KLFT is having issues
with its precipitation accumulator. Therefore, it will be
reporting missing on the daily climate until back up data can be
gathered. Suffice to say the daily rainfall record for the date of
2.89 inches in 1922 was broken as 4.25 inches was verified
through 5 PM local. Other rainfall records for the date of May
3...LCH 5.49 inches breaking the record of 4.16 in 2000, ARA 4.93
inches breaking the record of 2.67 inches in 1978.
