Southern Indiana...

  East Fork White River...Muscatatuck River...White River...



.Lowland flooding will continue for the next several days along
rivers in southern Indiana.  About a half inch of rain has fallen in
the last 12 hours with another one to two inches of rain are expected
to fall over the next 36 hours.  Rivers that recently crested will
begin to rise again into flood stage by midweek.  Widespread flooding
is not expected.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by 
  late this afternoon.
* At 20.5 feet...Lawrenceport Road just east of Lawrenceport and on 
  the south side of river begins to flood around this level.  By 22 
  feet this road is impassable.  During typical floods in this 
  area...this portion of the road can be flooded by 5 to more than 10
  feet of water.  During the January 2005 flood...this area would 
  have been near the "bottom" of the river...underwater by nearly 17 
  feet.  In the great March 1913 flood...more than 25 feet of water 
  would have covered this location.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following river in
southern Indiana...

  White River...


.Lowland flooding will be coming to an end this weekend along the
White river in southwest Indiana. Rainfall of up to about 1.5
inches fell in the area Sunday night through Tuesday morning. The
White river will crest over the next day at Petersburg and over
the next two days at Hazleton...then falling shortly after.

Accumulations of around .25 inches of rain will be possible Thursday
night.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 18.8 feet by 
  tomorrow morning. The river will fall below flood stage late 
  Saturday morning.
* At 19.0 feet...Low bottomlands flood and flooding begins on higher 
  bottomlands.  State Road 257 may begin to flood if Shoals gage 
  reading is over 17 feet.  Private levees may be overtopped in many 
  cases.

  higher bottomlands. High water affects any residents in Pottsville 
  river cabins. Pottsville Road...North C Street on river side of 
  railroad tracks and Catt Street near U. S. Highway 41 are flooded. 
  Water is near or starting on Giro Road in the vicinity of submerged
  Pottsville Road. Oil stripped fields flood. Flood gates must be 
  installed at Hazleton.

* Forecast...The river is forecast to have a maximum value of 17.1

* At 17.0 feet...Lowest reading available from the Hazleton Staff 
  Gage.  Since the 1930s the White River has moved from the "old 
  wellhouse" to several hundred yards from the "old wellhouse".  The 
  river returns to the "old wellhouse" around 17 to 17.5 feet.

Issued at 333 AM EST Mon Mar 6 2017

Rain chances will increase through the day and peak tonight and
early Tuesday as a cold front tracks through the region. Embedded
thunderstorms will be possible as well tonight and early Tuesday.
High pressure will build in behind the front for midweek with
dry...slightly cooler and windy conditions. Unsettled weather will
return by Friday and continue into the weekend with rain and the
potential for wintry conditions as well for some.

.NEAR TERM /Today and Tonight/...

Otherwise forecast in good shape. Previous discussion follows.

Issued at 333 AM EST Mon Mar 6 2017

Showers remain largely south of the Ohio River so far early this
morning as a weakening wave aloft tracks through the Tennessee
Valley. Moisture however continues to increase over central Indiana
with mostly cloudy skies across the forecast area. 08Z temperatures
ranged from the upper 40s to mid 50s.

The primary focus though tonight is the increasing threat for rain
and tonight...embedded thunderstorms with gusty winds. A strong
upper low will eject out of the northern Rockies later this morning
prompting a deepening surface wave over the western Dakotas
pinwheeling into the Canadian Prairies tonight. A cold front will
extend from the surface low and track into the Ohio Valley late
tonight.

Low level moisture will further increase through the morning as the
upper wave to our south tracks E/NE and weakens. Model soundings
indicate the boundary layer becoming full saturated by mid morning
over most of the area. Combined with strengthening warm
advection...showers will grow in coverage and  overspread the area
from the south through early afternoon. Likely to see a lull in
precip coverage for late afternoon and early evening as the
influence of the wave aloft shifts off to the east and only minimum
lift and forcing aloft remains over the region. Winds will become
progressively gustier through the afternoon and evening as a low
level jet noses into the Ohio Valley from the southwest.

Focus will turn west this evening as convection develops along and
ahead of the cold front over the Missouri Valley. Storms are likely
to align into a squall line with the potential for damaging winds as
an instability axis aligns just ahead of the front. Expect these
storms to maintain their intensity as they cross the Mississippi
River and track into western Illinois near or shortly after
midnight...but weaken thereafter as the instability diminishes
considerably over the forecast area. With that being said...the
presence of a lingering area of elevated instability will produce
embedded thunderstorms within the line as it tracks into the
northern Wabash Valley around 07-08Z then progresses across the
forecast area through Tuesday morning. In addition...still expect
showers and storms along the line to bring down gusty winds
potentially as high as 45-50mph in spots with a strong 60-70kt low
level jet in the 3 to 5kft layer. Model soundings continue to
advertise the presence of an inversion aloft which should dampen
some of the boundary layer winds from being brought to the surface.

Temps...despite the thick cloud cover which is expected for most if
not all day today...warm advection should enable highs to approach
the warmer MAV guidance in the lower 60s in most areas. Leaned
towards the warmer MET guidance for lows tonight as temps will fall
only little ahead of the cold front.

.SHORT TERM /|Tuesday through Wednesday Night/...
Issued at 333 AM EST Mon Mar 6 2017

Forecast challenges focus on temperatures and the likelihood of
continued windy conditions through much of the period.

Aforementioned low pressure at a sub-975mb strength will lift north-
northeast towards James Bay only slowly through Wednesday. With high
pressure moving through the southern Plains and lower Mississippi
Valley...a tight and persistent pressure gradient will maintain
periods of windy conditions throughout the short term.

Rain and embedded thunderstorms will continue to move east with the
cold front on Tuesday morning...with precipitation ending from west
to east by the afternoon as strong drying and a deep subsident layer
spreads into the Ohio Valley behind the front. Expect skies to
clear rather quickly from the west Tuesday afternoon as a result.
Remainder of the short term will be quiet with potential for brief
increases in mid and high level clouds as weak waves traverse
through the lower Great Lakes within the cyclonic flow aloft. The
winds will be the much greater impact however...with potential for
bursts of stronger winds as these waves aloft pass through. Expect
gusts to peak above 30 mph on both Tuesday and Wednesday with
perhaps gusts near or even exceeding 40 mph across the northern half
of the forecast area at times. Winds will finally relax Wednesday
night as a surface ridge builds into the region.

Temps...despite cold advection in wake of the frontal boundary...the
airmass arriving for midweek is not significantly colder. With
sunshine expected for late Tuesday and most of Wednesday...expect
highs remain in the 50s for most locations both days. Generally
trended closer to the cooler MAV guidance. Took a model blend for
lows through the period as overnight temps fall back into the 30s.

.LONG TERM /Thursday through Sunday/...
Issued at 314 AM EST Mon Mar 6 2017

Dry weather Thursday will give way to chances for rain Thursday
night as a low pressure system swings through south of the area,
and an upper system moves through to the north. After brief dry
conditions Friday, another low pressure system will approach and
move through south of the area, with the GFS taking the track
along the Ohio river and the ECM track a bit further south.
Models552are producing snow with this system, but seem to be
overproducing snow with the expected temperatures. Could see
precipitation starting out as rain Friday night and then changing
over to a mix and then a very wet snow from north to south late
Friday night into Saturday morning before warming enough to change
back over to rain by Saturday afternoon. Will include the snow
chances but will need to see this recent model trend continue
before becoming too confident in it. There just isn't enough cold
air progged to come down to result in much accumulation.

Temperatures in the models are running above normal with the
exception of near normal on Saturday.

.AVIATION /Discussion for 061200Z TAF Issuance/...
Issued at 603 AM EST Mon Mar 6 2017

Restrictions will develop this morning and linger through much of
the forecast period.

Deeper moisture continues to steadily advect into central Indiana
from the southwest early this morning...with expansion in light
rain showers and lower ceilings into the southern portions of the
forecast area. Should continue to see both the light rain showers
and lower ceilings encompass the terminals through the morning as
model soundings show the boundary layer becoming fully saturated.
Visibilities will also lower into the MVFR category at times this
afternoon. Southerly winds will become gusty through the day...
with peak gusts approaching 30kts this afternoon and evening.

May see a brief lull in rainfall coverage late this afternoon and
this evening before heavier rain showers and embedded
thunderstorms move into the region after 06Z with the cold front.
The presence of a strong low level jet over the region will
support a renewal in strong wind gusts overnight and into Tuesday
morning...peaking at 30-35kts from the S/SW. The front will press
east of the terminals after daybreak Tuesday with rapid
improvements in ceilings by early Tuesday afternoon. Winds will
veer to westerly with the frontal passage but will likely remain
gusty all day Tuesday.

Outlook: There is a chance of thunderstorms tonight.

Discussion: A low pressure system will move into the area and bring
rain today and rain with some embedded thunderstorms tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Outlook: There is a chance for thunderstorms Tuesday morning across
central and eastern parts of the area. There is a chance for snow
Friday night into Saturday morning.

Discussion: A cold front moving through the area on Tuesday will
bring an end to thunderstorm chances from west to east during the
morning on Tuesday. Lightning and gusty winds will be the main
threats from these storms. To end the week and begin the weekend, a
low pressure system will move through south of the area bringing
chances for snow with it.
